My husband just recieved a bonus from work and we're thinking about taking a short trip to Disney World, just the two of us, in May. We've never been in May and I want to try to avoid as much crowds as possible, so I was thinking to go during the week. I was thinking if we went mid-May kids would still be in school. So I'm thinking about May 17-20. Does anyone know how crowded it might be there? I'm thinking the end of school vacationers won't start until the last week of May. Also, how hot is it in May?

We always used to go Memorial Day week and that was pretty crazy. You'll probably do a little better earlier in the month. The weather was always very hot and humid with alot of rain.

But it was WDW, and that's all that counts.:teeth:

I have been twice in May and the weather and crowds are perfect. One year it was very warm and another year very hot! It never rained much over our vacations in early to mid May. From what I have heard and experienced, the rain SHOULD not be an issue. And if it does rain who cares:bounce:

I've been twice in May over Mother's Day weekend. The first time, the weather was warm and the crowds were low. The second time (last year) the weather was BLISTERING HOT and the crowds were low. I think weather will be a crap shoot but crowds will probably be low. :) Have fun if you go!

Well, heat can be dealt with, but since it's a short vacation we want the crowds to be low so we can get everything we want to do done.

It was little crowded last May, but my problem was the humidity. Yikes! I don't know how people can stand it! Maybe its just because I'm not used to it. Get one of those little water fans, those really help. I don't think it is always that bad in May though. We went the year before in May and I don't remember it being so hot.

I have been to Disney in May for the last 2 years. The weather can get pretty hot, but the crowds were not bad at all.

DH and I were there this past week-end. The heat made it awful for us and we live here!!!! Thing is, it's overcast today and not bad at all. Like someone previously said, it's a crap shoot. The crowds aren't bad right now, but dinner reservations are still necessary. Ask me how I know????? :teeth:

We have been in May before and found it to be hot but bearable. The crowds were not bad either. However, we are going next week and have found all the hotels are all booked and the restaurant priority seatings full during key times. Disney is reporting record attendance this year and the Unoffical Guide to WDW says that May is becoming a very popular time. It will be interesting to see how bad it is next week. Jay

We've been in May many times. Epcot is especially beautiful in May (during the Flower and Garden Festival).

Go as early in May as possible (the weather is beautiful and the crowds aren't too bad) and make sure you avoid Mother's Day weekend and Memorial Day weekend!:earseek:

Hey - I'll be there then, neighbor. You should go and then come out on the 23rd to the Rainforest Cafe meet in Grapevine so we can talk about our trips :chat:.

I've been several times in May. Since you are from TX, the heat probably won't seem too bad to you. And the crowds aren't that bad, either. Especially if you have been there a lot and know your way around, know to use fastpasses, etc.

Let me know if you're going - maybe we'll see each other there!

Krista :wave2:

I'm a texan now living in Oklahoma so I understand heat and humidity so for me it's not bad in May. I also agree that the crowds are low but since it is the garden festival, star wars weekends and the testing of the 3 extra park hour thing, I'm anticipating it to be heavier than usual. I've been 3 or 4 times in May and perfer it to summer months, as you can see I'll be there pretty soon :)

Well, DH and I talked about it some more and decided we probably shouldn't go. Even though he did just get this bonus, we've had our family trip in October/November planned for a while and we really shouldn't take two trips in one year (I don't see why not!) So instead he's going to save some of the money for the trip and he said we can use the rest to take a little mini vacation somewhere closer that we could drive to...and no he doesn't consider Disney World close enough to drive to.

Thanks for the replies though guys...I'll keep all of it in mind in case we might ever want to go in May without the kids.
