Disney World and the War in Iraq

Reading these posts has made me feel very good. We will be leaving Friday afternoon for WDW. My wife is a bit concerned and I don't blame her. However, the posts on this thread show why America is the great nation it is. People standing tall in the face of adversity and the unknown. It's not just about a "vacation". It's about a defiance to the forces of terror in the world.

May God bless each one of us and may God continue to bless this great nation. Please pray for our President, his advisors and, of course, the men and women who VOLUNTEER to protect our freedom!

Not only are we not cancelling our trip for March 29 - April 4, we booked another for August!

The only thing that worries me is we're traveling with my parents who have a history of things happening while on vacation. They were in Hilton Head a few years ago, and were evacuated because of the hurricane. They were in Canada on 9/11 and had problems getting home. Snowstorms, record lows, you name it. Hopefully, this trip will break the streak!

We're booked for May, August & November and no way am I changing our plans!!! We went in Oct. 2001, flew out of Newark & were initially checking out everyone on the plane; but, as luck would have it, we had 6 NYC cops on their first break after 9/11 going to WDW for golf. Two of them got up to talk to the stewardess, stood in front of the cockpit door & stayed there the entire flight.......no one was getting thru them!! It was one of the best flights we've had. We refused to change our routine then & we won't now. We can't run scared, it's what "they" want!

Boy, Disney sounds like it will be a very crowded place in May and June. Maybe defiance is just what tourism needs. P.S.: Don't tell Disney execs. they may get so excitied that they raise prices in our honor! Maybe they will give us all a group rate? God Bless America!

OK I have to admit it I am scared. Our trip is not until Dec. so I am hoping that I feel a little better then, but now, I have to say I am nervous. It didnt help that they just put a little thing on the news showing Disney Land and saying that they are watching the airspace around N.Y city and Disney World and Disney Land. I guess that should make me feel better that they are watching so carefully but at the moment...its not My Hubby who is a history teacher says, "That I am reacting exactly the way they want me to feel. He says "This is terriorism" I feel terriorized. I won't go so far as to cancel the trip but, I am nervous. I am nervous about the flight, I am nervous that we chose a religious holiday to be there, I am nervous that someone who has no regard for their own life or the lives of others will decide to spread some terrrible disease to people and what better place to infect people from all over the world...DISNEY....OK now I feel a little bit better after reading what I typed I can see I am over reacting.......right, right???I know that we are so lucky to live where we live, to have the freedom we have, to have brave people fighting for us. I know in my head that in some places people live their whole lives in fear....just going out for them is a life or death experience...I know this all in my head but in my heart I feel just sick , scared and sad. God bless the USA and the wondeful men and women who are defending it for us right now...How trivial my problem of fear for a vacation really is when you think of how scared some of them must be right now....

It's funny you ask about the Monorail Cocktail Party, because my friend who is going mentioned wanting to spend more time at Pleasure Island, so I'm thinking we'll be there Wednesday night, instead.

If anyone is out and about Wednesday night, look us up. I'm easy to spot: very short hair (what's left of it, that is), red beard, and big bushy red moustache. I will be wearing one of two WDW Guest of Honor pins that will either say 'Casey' or 'Roy.' (Don't ask - it's a long story.)

It does sound as though it's going to be mighty busy in May. And I thought I was going at a quiet time!

My wife & I with 3 children will travel from England at the end of April. We would never let terrorists or any others ruin our holiday. The children are counting the days down & cant wait to get their. We Brits will not be cancelling our trips, but we will be thinking of the Allied troops on the front line, And lifting a glass to there well being.

Hey Dan, speaking from another CM point of View you are exactly right. Noone should cancel their trip to the Fab Walt Disney World. We should not let those guys or even the gov't scare us so bad that we have come to canceling our vacations. Honestly everyone should come and they should have the best times of their lifes and do it for those who are fighting for our freedom. Lets celebrate their bravery by celebrating magical times in WDW..

I refuse to cancel also. Remember that the goal of terrorists is to terrorize. If you cancel your plans, stay ome and become a hermit, the terrorists win!! That is something we do not want to happen.

I find this post very uplifting also. And as a military family, I am proud to see everyone refusing to give in. IMHO, that honors our military personnel who are fighting to free us from terrorism.

We are still planning on taking our trip in early May. I am nervous, but at this time we are still going. D and Ls Mom, I hear you! I went through all of this before...we were scheduled to go ON Sept.11, leaving at lunchtime. We postponed for October, and I did not regret it. I think I would have been too worried in Sept. things were so uncertain. Even in Oct I was nervous but those concerns melted away when we were there. I think you get especially nervous when you have small children. You start to think of random dangerous possibilities...what to do if you are separated, how to avoid tramplings, who carries who (we have 3 little ones) or whether to use strollers. I could go on! But obviously I do think it is important not to hole up in your house. I am just hoping that this will be like the first gulf war, and very short. One can always hope!

We are also going in early May with no plans to cancel. I worry less about the terrorists than I do about the mysterious illness that is spreading in Asia. I have three little ones and the first time we took them to Disney we had a wonderful time, but brought home chicken pox instead of the normal t-shirt.

Amen! I will NOT be cancelling our upcoming trip! I cannot WAIT to be in the midst of teh magic with my family and my soon-to-be-one-year-old son! It is his first trip to WDW and I would not change my plans for anything!

I am constantly looking at pictures of previous trips, watching my planning videos and honeymoon videos counting down the days until we arrive at WDW. Nothing will keep us from the magic!

Everyone on this board should be very proud of themselves for not cancelling their trips. When 9/11 happened, my husband a Fire Resque/HazMat Captain in Newark, NJ was over there helping in the recovery efforts. He came home a different person after trying to recover his brother firefighters. We went to Disney in October that year and many times we both had tears in our eyes because we knew what it felt like to lose a brother firefighter and friend. We felt sadness but Disney is and always will be our place together. It helps bring joy into our hearts and makes us realize what a fantastic country we live in. The American Pavilion Show in Epcot always made us swallow a lump in our throats but that year I actually just let the tears stream down. When you walk in the front gate at MK, look at that beautiful American Flag waving and the scenery around you and you realize what a beautiful life so many of us have. So when I leave on Sunday I'll be thinking of all of you and know that my family plans on having the time of our lives but with the thought of our servicemen and women tucked not only in the back of our minds, but in a very special place in our hearts for allowing us these freedoms!

We have plans to go Mar 24 to 28. The only thing that will stop us, is if they cancel my husband's leave. He is military and it could be cancelled at a moments notice. We are hoping that it will not be cancelled, but my daughter and I both understand with everything that is going on.
I am a former military brat, and have been twice married to military, so I knew when I married my husband what could happen. I support him and will always be there to support him no matter what.
But I am like all the others, we will not cancel our vacation because of "possible" threats. You have to live your life, you can't put it on hold because of what is happening. I will be saying my prayers for all the men and women fighting to protect my freedom.

A friend and I had a vacation planned for NYC in Oct. 2001, then Sept. 11 happened. We kept our plans and had a wonderful trip. We were proud to be out and about with the people of NYC.
Every Broadway show or resturant we went to it seemed people were thanking us for coming to visit their city. It was a special trip.

My family--Mom, Dad, 5 kids--leave for WDW on Saturday. We are going to go and be proud to be Americans. We are going to perform Random Acts of Kindness everyday we are there--in the name and spirit of our soldiers and America. And I urge you all to do the same.

Just want to comment on what eggleboo said. We went on the Disney Magic in Nov. 2001 and met a Lt. Colonel whose office was in the section of the Pentagon that got hit. Fortunately for him, he was in a meeting across the street at the time and watched the plane crash into the section of the building where his office was. Their cruise was laready booked before 9/11, but he decided against cancelling. He said that the experience changed his whole outlook on things. That was clear by the way we met. We were both panelist s on the WWTBAM show and he was one of the most happy, outgoing guys I ever met.
