Disney Worker Crushed By Float At Magic Kingdom

Today, 2/11/04 just as Michael Eisner was getting ready to address the media and other personnel regarding Disney and its so called apparent "takeover" by Comcast, a costumed worker at the Magic Kingdom was killed by a float right by Space Mountain.

They say that he is a 38 yr. old male who was employed for 8 yrs. What a shame. It seems that everything happens at once and this is such a tragedy. You never expect a tragedy like this to take place, since everything seems so choreographed, but this just goes to show that it can happen at anytime. Now we can all understand a little better why there are so many cast members trying to keep all those anxious children and guests away from the floats.

the news report I read today said it was in the backstage area behind splash mountain.

OH my! This was my last day at the park and we had been wondering why the parade was so short. How scary and prayers for this mans family!

I saw something about this on the late news last night, but wasn't sure what they were talking about (the tv station was Spanish) I feel so sorry for his family.

Our local news said it was Mickey Mouse..geesh, right at dinner hour when the kids were watching the news. Santa Claus died of a heart attack in our mall while marching in the day he arrived when we were there many years ago in front of a bunch of kids. The news really played it up..you'd think they would think before talking about the impact on children.

I think he was dressed as Pluto. It occured in a staging area. So sad. Prayers to him and his family.

One of my clerks at the post office has a daughter working there and she was learning the crowd control for parades when it happened.

It WAS Pluto and he evidently got caught and pulled underneath a float and the driver didnt even realize it at first.

It was NOT a pretty sight she said. She called her mom all upset.

How very sad for his family and now we know why they do the crowd control to keep people away from the floats. You know how those that insist they just have to get across right now and cross between the floats?
