Disney Cruise Line plans to homeport Disney Wonder from Los Angeles starting in 2011, Seatrade Insider has learned. The deployment will come as the line introduces newbuilds in 2011 and 2012.

The Port of Los Angeles board will meet this week to consider an agreement for the ship at Berths 90-93 for an initial two-year period, from January 2011 through 2012, with three one-year options that could see Disney operating from Los Angeles until 2016.

DCL deployed Disney Magic from Los Angeles during the summers of 2005 and 2008 on Mexican Riviera cruises.

The new agreement would give Disney non-exclusive preferential use of Berths 93A and 93B, and non-exclusive secondary use of Berths 90-92.

DCL would provide minimum annual revenue of $1.26m based on an annual minimum passenger guarantee of 52,620 and a per passenger fee of $12, with each passenger counted on embarkation and on disembarkation.

Certain facility improvements related to the terminal’s appearance and passenger services are covered in the agreement. A new gangway system and new fendering are planned, along with improved lighting, a new sound and video system, and a new traffic plan.

The new gangways, fenders and painting of the terminal building were already budgeted and approved at a cost of approximately $2m and will be shared among all users of the terminal.

11. Re: RESOLUTION NO. ______ - PROPOSED PERMIT NO. 883 WITH
MAGICAL CRUISE COMPANY, LIMITED, DBA DISNEY CRUISE
LINE
SUMMARY: In the summers of 2005 and 2008, the Magical Cruise
Company, Limited, dba Disney Cruise Line (DCL), used the Port of Los
Angeles (Port) for a series of cruises to the Mexican Riviera. These were
arrangements that were made individually for each year’s season. DCL is
in the process of significantly expanding its cruise business with the
addition of two 4,000 passenger vessels, currently being built overseas
and expected to be put into service in 2011 and 2012. With new ships on
order, Disney has sought to identify a West Coast home port for one of its
existing vessels. In an effort to build its West Coast presence and capture
the currently under-served family cruise business, DCL is pleased to
announce that it has decided to make the Port its Southern California
home port. DCL will relocate the Disney Wonder from the Caribbean to
Los Angeles for up to five years and will utilize Port cruise terminal
facilities.
The proposed action will grant DCL a term permit allowing for berthing of
cruise ships and other required cruise-related activities at Berths 90-93 at
Los Angeles World Cruise Center for a period of two years, beginning
January 1, 2011, and ending December 31, 2012. The proposed Permit
also includes three, one-year options following the initial two-year term,
with a potential use of Port cruise terminal facilities until December 31,
2015.
Recommendation: Board resolve that (1) the proposed Permit with DCL
be approved in substantially the form as attached, based on the terms and
conditions as set forth in the Board report; (2) the Executive Director be
authorized to execute and the Board Secretary to attest to the Permit
upon Board approval; and (3) Resolution No._____be adopted.

This is fantastic. Having DCL less than 3,000 miles away is going to be cool. Can't wait to see what the itineraries are going to be. DCL under the Golden Gate Bridge would be quite a sight.

Looks like San Diego lost out.

We have been saying for ages now, a ship will go to LA.

Looks like Dreams will take over 3/4 night Wonder Cruises

Magic stays on 7 night Caribbean routes

Captain Henry has been talking in private to various people over the last few months that he will take charge of the Dreams and the Wonder would move away to West coast USA, &/0r Mexico. I had a few PM's on this.

This is awesome. I cannot wait for DCL to come closer to me. Now I need to start saving so I can finally go on one of their cruises! Does anyone have a trip report from those past Southern-California cruises? I'm wondering where the cruise will go to..Mexico, Alakaska, etc?

The Port of Los Angeles IS San Pedro if I"m not mistaken...:confused3

Did you mean San Diego lost out, Andrew?

Actually The Port of Los Angeles / San Pedro are one and the same.
Looks like San Diego lost out. ;)

They're already all over it on the local news. The teases all mention the hope of new jobs being created. A good thing for California's struggling economy for sure.

You know what I mean got me Perdo and Diego messed up!!! Corrected it now.Posting tooooo fast..

Earlier this year I heard about rumors for San Diego, I didn't make too much fuss when posting them as I thought it was a negotiation tool against LA, and it seems it was, they did this with Tampa and PC a year or so back.

I have been posting for a long time that from 2011 they will have a ship in LA, it now looks like a done deal.

You are quite a seer, lol!

So when one of the ships is eventually based in Europe, where do you predict the home port to be, Andrew?

I assume these will be 7 day cruises? I'm happy that California is finally getting their own DCL on the West Coast.

I do not think Europe's on the radar for a while, the earliest would be 2012, when the second ship comes, I think they will review 2010 bookings before a final decision on that now, but as they are creatures of habit, proved time and time again if they had a home port in Europe it would be Barcelona.

PS Robert got the confirmation scoop!!! I had a few , PM's over the last three months, that I was told not to publish, but as its out now....

Well, while I would like to see it based in Great Britain, Barcelona's a beautiful city and that would be OK with me too.
