Disney Wonder Solo

Right now I have planned to do a 3 day trip to WDW the end of October but I'm debating on doing the 4 night from Vancouver to San Diego on the Wonder instead. It's obviously more money but my reasoning is this...I am visually impaired and therefore I can't tour theme parks after it gets dark. I've wanted to try solo cruising because there are lots of stuff in the evenings that I can see/do. I have already done a solo trip to WDW for a week this past February so I definitely know what to expect at WDW but no idea of what it's like to cruise solo. I've been to Vancouver twice already (non-solo) but feel comfortable to know my way around and of course I love the idea of flying home from San Diego and it only taking 45 minutes! Any experiences of solo cruising on Disney? Any tips or advice if I decide to go through with it?

I cruised solo a couple years ago, when DH and the kids went on their annual water skiing trip (I heartily dislike motor boats). A 3-nighter on the Wonder to the Bahamas. It was great! Spent a lot of time at the adult pool, visited the spa a couple times, and treated myself to dinner at Palo. The other two nights, I was seated at a table with a couple and a mother-daughter duo travelling together. It was pleasant to have folks to chat with over dinner, after having spent the day immersed in a book or napping in the sun. It was all wonderfully relaxing! If I felt like going to a show or a movie, I did. If not, no negotiating with others about compromising.

I've done seven solo Disney Cruises including the Vancouver to San Diego on the Wonder. They are all sorts of activities to do when your on the ship including shows, first run movies, character meets, shopping, spa, etc. At the various ports you can either explore on your own, book a port adventure or stay on the ship. You will also have an opportunity to meet and socialize with other passengers during dinner (you will be assigned to a table with other singles or adult couples). DCL also host a couple of meets for singles but that's up to you whether you want to attend or not. On my past cruises I have always meet people and some have become great friends. Being a solo cruiser you have an opportunity to be social and meet people or just relax on your own. The only downside to cruising solo with Disney is that there is no single supplement and you essentially pay for a second person although you are traveling alone.

Thanks for sharing! I went ahead and booked the cruise to try out something new. It's unfortunate that Disney still remains one of the few cruise lines that doesn't offer any discount for solo travelers but I know I'll be getting great customer service.
