Disney Wonder September 3, 2012. Seattle to Vancouver 7 night Alaska Cruise!

I was curious as to what to expect weather wise in part of Alaska we are traveling and the time of year. I searched the computer, and the best i could find out is......supposedly 44-56 degrees and possibly rainy. Does anyone know differently? If its anything like Texas weather,,,,,anything goes...:sunny::umbrella:

Here are estimates based on the averages temperatures from the same time last year (historical data on Weather Underground):

Seattle, WA
ave: high 73, low 55, 0.0” rain

Skagway, AK
ave: high 56, low 46, 0.3” rain

Juneau, AK
ave: high 57, low 46, 0.3” rain

Ketchikan, AK
ave: high 61, low 54, 1.3” rain

Vancouver, BC
ave: high 74, low 55, 0.0” rain

Some days in Alaska showed no rain, others 1+", so be ready for the wet stuff! :umbrella:

Do they allow umbrellas on the plane as a carry-on? I've read some places where it says yes and some that say no. I don't want to purchase a poncho if I don't have to.

Hopefully, it doesn't rain. :beach:

We had umbrellas in our carry on when we went to Disney World last October. We knew it was pouring there and we wouldn't get our luggage for a while once we got off (used Magical Express and didn't rent a car). There were no problems with them. They were small ones though. I think you'll be fine.

I figure we've got 50/50 odds of rain at any given time. We'll just have to keep our fingers crossed! :goodvibes

Remember though that the weather is a humid weather. Some know that humid weather is a lot worse that dry. I know I can take 110 in Kansas, but not 100 in Florida. Last time I was there, it was 65 and I was freezing because of the wind. I took a sweater and a wind breaker and was usually fine.

It did rain once when I was there, but it was for about an hour and then it was done. It actually was sunny most of the time. The locals said that they were having REALLY strange weather though, that usually it rained and was more overcast than when I was there.

The one thing that really amazed me, and I hope it's the same because I went in Sept last time(hope I don't jinx us), is that there was almost no snow on the ground. Most of the hill were green and lush and it was picture perfect the entire time.:hippie:

Its so great to have someone who has been there that time of year. I will come prepared for anything. No matter what the weather we will have a great time, just being in alaska. Appreciate the info.:thumbsup2

I finally found a new idea for FE gifts that I love (thank you Homemade FE gift thread!) - and this is definitely scalable to any size of exchange! Now I just need to put it into action, and make my FE. :goodvibes

Hey, did i notice that you liked the movie "Wall-E"? I saw a pic by the ship under your message.....I sooo loved that show. My favorite part were the little fat people that could not do anything for themselves (because of laziness). My husband and I are trying to lose weight, by doing the old weight watchers program. He has lost alot more than me, but i am losing about 2 pounds a week. I still have over 30 pounds to go, i wouldnt mind losing more, but i could be happy with that. Anyhow, just thought if you liked the movie, we had something in common. Another of our fav's is the Incredibles. :happytv: Laughed until i cried. when they got into their 40"s and became like everyone else instead of super heros. REALITY CHECK>>>>>>>Sometimes i think the cartoons are pointed to the older groups.
I hope disney plays "Tangled" i havent seen it yet...or up up and away.....

Got my cruise docs!!

For those who are concerned about rain in Seattle, you should know that it very rarely rains hard to enough to warrant an umbrella. It's more like a drizzle, leaky faucet type of thing. That is why you will see most Seattle natives with hooded sweatshirts, jackets, etc... Because its not a hard rain.

As someone who has lived in the south (GA) I can promise you it's not the humidity you are thinking of. Basically, if it's a rain day, it's a cool day. We don't get that hit humid, steamed up glasses junk. ;) if it is rainy, it is cooler, and you will probably need a sweatshirt or light jacket.

The key is layers! Always layer!

Hello,

I just booked my cruise and am so excited. I wanted to join the FE list but it won't let me send a PM since I have not made 10 posts. My sister told me how great the FE is so I wanted to make sure I signed up. Is there any way to do that since I can't PM? Thanks.

Pat

Hi there,

Realized that I asked a question without introducing myself. This is my first Disney cruise. My 3.5 yr old daughter M and I are going. We are from Southern California. Excited to go and see Alaska.

Hope to meet all of you there.
