Ben Roethlisberger was in a motorcycle accident. He was NOT wearing a helmet and from what I am hearing I doubt he will ever play football again. He flipped over his bike and went through a car windshield. He broke his jaw, has many missing teeth, a 9" laceration to the back of his head and severly injured both knees!

Coming from a family of "motorcycle riders" (Harleys) I will never understand why someone would choose to ride without a helmet. If he doesn't play again it will be a waste of God given talent thrown away by a careless choice.

My friends BIL will never walk again due to flipping his bike and being thrown without a helmet. It was such a sad day for his family and friends.

Prayers to Ben and his family.

They have a law that kids have to wear them when they ride a bike- Why wont you wear one on a motorcycle that goes 10 times faster than a bike. People dont think!

Helmets on motorcycles are the same as not wearing seatbelts in cars to me. People who don't do these things are just taking unneccessary risks.

Steelers QB In Serious Condition After Motorcycle Accident

POSTED: 12:16 pm EDT June 12, 2006
UPDATED: 3:18 pm EDT June 12, 2006

PITTSBURGH -- Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is in serious, but stable condition at a Pittsburgh hospital after being involved in a motorcycle accident Monday morning.

Dr. Larry Jones, chief of trauma at Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh, issued a statement Monday afternoon and said that Roethlisberger was "undergoing some surgery for injuries he received in this accident today.

"He is coherent, he's making sense, he knows what happened, he knows where he is. From that standpoint he is very stable."

The nature of Roethlisberger's injuries have yet to be revealed, but the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported that he suffered a broken jaw.

Witnesses said Roethlisberger's motorcycle collided with a car in downtown Pittsburgh and the quarterback flew over the handlebars and hit his head on the car's windshield.

Roethlisberger was apparently not wearing a helmet, which is not required for riders of motorcycles in the state of Pennsylvania.

Police are investigating the accident, which occurred at about 11:30 a.m. (et) at the intersection of Second Avenue and the 10th Street Bridge in downtown Pittsburgh.

Reports added that a car, with Maine license plates, was traveling in the opposite direction of Roethlisberger's motorcycle and turned left. Roethlisberger was unable to stop and hit the passenger side door.

The 24-year-old Roethlisberger helped the Steelers to the Super Bowl title last year. He completed 62.7 percent of his passes for 2,385 yards with 17 touchdowns and nine interceptions last season, his second in the league.

:sad2: :sad2: :guilty:

If you are a motorcyclist and can't wear a seat belt, wear a helmet.

here's some more info from WPXI, UPDATE: Roethlisberger in serious but stable condition -- undergoing surgery -- suffered broken jaw and nasal cavity, injuries to both of his knees, lost many teeth. :scared: :sad2:

And- 7:01pm update from WXPI and it said, "The surgery began at 1:30 p.m. and is expected to last four to six hours." Pretty extensive surgery here. Many prayers for him and his family tonight.

:moped: <--- even this little guy even needs a helmet.

Yep! I even have a seatbelt for the dog! I read where a 30 pound dog in a car accident traveling 25 mile an hour will hit with a force of 900 pounds and my dog is 3 times that-so I got a seatbelt for her! I havent heard any other news If I do I will pass it on.
Ben did an interview last year and they asked him about a helmet and he gave a cocky answer-I'm not breaking the law! Made me think what an idiot-I would have had to hit him upset the head with my mike if I was there.

TAKE NOTES KIDS!!!!!!!!!!

WEAR A HELMET!!!!!!!

Just trying to get caught up on this thread - I'm only a few hundred posts behind! I went back and was looking at the list and if you count family members there are over 100 cruisers from the DIS going on this cruise! pirate: Somewhere around 106 or so. :dance3:

Here's the latest update:

Ben underwent 7 hours of surgery ending at 9pm for Mulitple facial fractures.
All the fractures were repaired.
His brain, spine, chest and abdomine no injury. He is is stable but serious condition.
According to witnesses he hit the car, his head hit the windshield and he landed on his head.

Yep, DH talked with oldest dd about what happened while waiting for the the ESPN live report. She immediately asked, did he wear or was he wearing a helmet? and then she said she was going to pray for him. I'm not so worried about the football part right now. * :furious: Although I looked at the WPXI and the BRoth site and people are up in arms about this season. Right now, I am worried about right now. His health, his life, his head~ not football. vent over. I saw the pic of where his head had impact on the car and its on the upper passenger side of the windshield. His head dented the frame and cracked the windshield (imagine seeing a circular spot). Its unbelievable. I hope this link works so you can see the pictures of his cycle and the car (if you are interested). Scroll down the blue column on the right side and look for slidshow look for Photos of B R. crushed bike. http://www.wpxi.com/sports/9356102/detail.html#

Bill,

On the trip reports forum I read where one DISer did concierge at the Poly (I think that resort). Anyway- it sounded like a better/bigger room and very convenient. They had snacks etc as well. She said she wouldn't do it for a long stay but it was great for a few nights. The monorail was the big plus for her (not sure what concierge has to do with that :confused3 )

This is how I felt after paying for the dolphin excursion shortly after paying off the cruise. :rotfl2:

:sad1: After some serious thought and a family discussion I have to say we have cancelled our cruise however, :dance3: we're going on med cruise June 6. Now I know I signed up for the cruise meet but, I don't know if I signed up for anything else. Hope you all have a wonderful trip and I am now off to find out if anyone has started a chat for our trip. :wave2:

Funny you should say that. The travel channel had a rerun of the show Great Hotels where they had featured the Animal Kingdom Lodge just last week. I TIVOed it. The woman in the show stayed conceirge level. You get the better views, your own lounge with very nice food and beverage, and she went on a dawn safari ride at AK. My DH and I vowed to do this one day. It looked amazing. Go you! :woohoo:
