If for some reason a storm comes to my area, there is a strong possibility that we will temporarily lose contact with everyone. At times, both our cell phones and home lines were out for days due to either downed lines or clogged circuits. They worked sporadically at first and improved as time went on. My internet was the last thing to come back. If someone wants to designate themselves as my contact, I will call and check in whenever possible, if need be. (If I remember correctly, people were able to leave messages on my cell line and I was able to retrieve them when the line worked.)

Don't be too hard on your mom . Everyone including myself has the same thoughts. Just tell your Mom a LOT of things still have to occur for this to affect us...One of the issues with September travel are hurricanes. It is possible that some of us MAY have to shift our arrival plans, which is why information is so important (and few prayers thrown in for good measure). It does not hurt to develop some type contingency plan in the event it does develop, so you have some sort of idea, and you can implement the plan if and when necessary. Talking about it also lessen's the anxiety in most cases,so it may not be a bad idea to discuss some alternative arrangementswith your families.
The NHC has a saying..be prepared...not scared. Over the next few days we should have an idea what is going on with this storm and will have a clearer picture if anything is occuring.
So far, we are right on track as far as the number of storms for the year, it just seems like less beacuse last year was so active.

That's weird...I read an article in April that said this year was supposed to be as bad as last year.

They actually changed the prediction a couple of weeks ago. They are anticipating less named storms! Let's hope it's MUCH LESS!

Oh hehe...I wouldn't have seen that then. I took Oceanography last year so that's the only reason I knew. (Man I hated that class! )

I thought I would call them first thing Saturday and find out whats going on and then every once in a while on Saturday and then before we leave for port Sunday and then start the tree.
