PS--I've got my fingers crossed for you on the house. I hate house shopping so much, I made my husband promise that I didn't have to move for ten years. I've only got two more years left.
I think this one will go through!
The basement is immaculent. The furnace is on blocks off the ground in case of water. There are drains all around the edge that lead to a big drain, just in case water does get in. The foundation was done triple block thick in most sections. It's crazy, like they went to crazy attempts to keep water out (makes sense it was built right after a HUGE flood here) but the house doesn't sit in a flood plain.
House has been empty 1.5 years and you walk in that basement and smell nothing. No must, no water, no mold, NOTHING. The realtor was shocked.
It's got hardwood, pocket doors, I love it!!
We'll have to run some duct work for more heat upstairs (I like to be warm, dangit!) but went ahead and figured out how do-able it will be before we left it Saturday.
We're going to add a laundry room to the side (right now w/d are in Kitchen) but a contractor and electrician in the family will make that easy. We'll leave the washer in the kitchen until we can do it and just hang clothes to dry (our dryer is gas and connection in kitchen is electric and I'm not running a gas line just to build a laundry room shortly after, seems stupid!)
Going to rip up all the carpet, finish the hardwood floors. We'll have to add AC (how the heck do people get by with no AC?!)
It was 40 degrees here Saturday and when we walked in that house (keep in mind, vacant 1.5 years) it was WARM! It's insulated so amazingly well.
I think we found it!
The yard is also 3x the size of the other house we were going to buy! Fenced yard, flat.
Rink will be so happy to have a yard to run around in and plenty of place for a pool/play place when we get to that point.
Hopefully this one works out. Crossing fingers. Making offer tomorrow, I think!
