Disney Wonder Sept 3-7,2006 Part 2

Wow. Interesting. We didn't have wood floors til we had our kitchen/front hallway redone. It was tiled, and our bathrooms are tiled as well. Well...not the downstairs one now...it's wood too now.
It's cool to learn how everyone has their house done differently.:goodvibes
.
I could be wrong, but I thought tile floors were popular in hot areas as they conduct the heat away and wood and carpet were popular in cold areas where heat conservation was important.

All this before we had AC and insulation.

In the northern states these days a selling point for tile is that heating coils can be imbedded in the goopy stuff that holds them in place.

I saw where you got the tag Patsy, so no need to answer that again. You sure hit a lot of the DIS that I never heard of :rotfl:

Jan :santa:

Yeah, weird how much it differs from area to area.
Even my bathroom at my parents house was carpet. :rotfl:

Our new house has carpet over BEAUTIFUL oak original hardwoods from the 1920's, we'll be ripping that carpet up after we paint. Hardwood, here we come!
.
Again comfort and economy but now also status.

All houses in the north had wood floors over basements and little insulation in the walls if any. Heavy fabric curtains kept the cold from blowing through cracks by the windows and carpets kept the floors feeling warmer.

In the 60s they finally developed looms large enough to weave carpet that would fit wall-to-wall.

So if you had money to do so, you invested in it to more fully cover the cold wood floors (so you lost less heat to the outdoors) and to update your old house and make it look more modern.

I say it all the time, it snowballs into this huge ordeal!!

Thank you. I had a hard time deciding and then it all came together. I love it.:cloud9:

I just poked over to our old thread and I said..

"He's taking me to Vegas for my 21st and all my friends think he's gonna try to get me to marry him. They say we're practically married already. "

...boy, if only I'd known!!

I had my first final last night. It's probably going to be my hardest/worst so I am glad I got it out of the way first! I feel like I can relax and ease up and concentrate better for the next three. I'll be done Tuesday afternoon and home-bound again!:goodvibes

Patsy how about you...how are the end of classes going for you with the baby and new house and all? Showing any signs yet??:goodvibes

I think it is pretty nice that we don't know the future. If we did, we would not go out of the house.

 Best wishes as you walk into the future.

How are things going today?

Heidi (and Jan, too!)

Things are good! I worked this morning and after that we spent the day at the house fulfilling everything the VA required. A lot of it was electrical and Tom's uncle is a retired electrician and he did everything (and more) for us!

I have officially finished 1 class (History). I have a final for my English class on Thursday night @ 7pm and I'm still quite a ways behind in my speech class. I'm actually hoping the professor will give me an incomplete- I just don't think it's possible for me to get everything done in time, I have assignments 7-13 to complete (I've done 10, though!) and my final.
I'm going to try (I think) because a lot of them build on the other assignments. The professor is so far behind in grading, though, she would probably take all my assignments up until the time she has to submit grades... so I might have next week if I push through some of them this weekend...

I'm not too optimistic I'll finish it and I'm not too worried about my GPA, it's strong enough to take 1 failure (sad!) and I'll be able to keep financial aid so no biggie. You win some, you lose some. This has just been a CRAP semester!!!

Aww, I'm sorry Patsy! But at least you have a positive outlook on it!:goodvibes
If it makes you feel any better...I have two finals on Monday back-to-back (although the first one should not take me very long so I should get an extra hour and a half) and I just started looking over stuff for my fish bio class (going to be my second final on Monday) and there are a LOT of families I have to know!! I knew it was gonna be gruesome...I just didn't know it was quite so bad!:guilty: I was feeling good about it because I have done very well on the other 2 tests and I only need a 77 on the final to get an A but it is looking like that could be a hard task!:scared1: :rotfl:
I shall just have to hit it hard tomorrow!:goodvibes (And the rest of the night, too.;) )

Psh, I am too exhausted to hit it hard.

I know it's impossible to do one of the assignments (It involved making a DVD and stuff) and so I'm planning on just holding onto my assignments and re-taking it next fall.

I'm just constantly tired, Tom's PTSD stuff has had me INCREDIBLY stressed out and I'm working ridiculously long shifts everyday of the week for a part-timer!
I'm ready for it to be over and for my cruise...
I am only taking two classes next semester. I might drop one, though. Haven't decided yet. So much going on!

...I'm trying to decide what I want to eat.. the roads aren't very good here but I want something CHOCOLATE!

Chocolate is ALWAYS a good choice!:rotfl2:
(I know man...things are just getting WAY to stressful these days. And you have so much more going on than me! I can't even imagine...)

The uncle I mentioned earlier (That did our electrical work today) we took him out to lunch and he said "Let me get this straight... Patsy, you're commuting an hour for work everyday? And going to school? And you've got this thing going on with the house? And you're pregnant? And Tom.. you're working, too? And going to school? HOW DO YOU GUYS DO IT?!"

He was in awe... maybe because we're living it, it doesn't seem so bad... but I know I am ready for a break, it's all starting to wear me down.
I'll be happy when we're REALLY allowed to get in the house and start making changes like I want!! :lovestruc

..I still haven't decided on a form of chocolate, I just spent the last however long cleaning up all the pictures on this laptop. I made a "Pregnancy" folder and I'm going to go figure out by the dates what week I was in the different pictures and compare my belly. I'm kinda excited, as dorky as that is..

Aww no it's not dorky!!:goodvibes The other day I was tryna figure out how I would like pregnant!:rotfl: Just trying to decide if a big round belly would look good on me!:p (It might be obvious that I'm ready to start a family...:confused3 :rotfl2: )

I wasn't.. but man, is it sure growing on me! I'm getting more and more excited everyday as I watch my little ticker progress and the numbers go down. Hard to believe when I first posted it I had 240 some odd days left and I'm in the 180's now!

I'm just relieved I'm starting to look more pregnant and not like I just went to a couple too many buffet meals!! :rotfl:

You'll get there.. our scary part now is trying to decide whether or not we want this to be the only child or not. We've talked (prior to my getting pregnant) and decided if we had more than 1 we wanted them close to gether... soooo... there are just scary things everywhere when you reach this stage!! :scared1:

I know what you mean! I want my kids close together too. My mom had all four of us in less than 5 years. My plan is to beat that.;) :rotfl: I just don't get people who have kids far apart.:confused3 I understand if there are conception issues...but one of my teachers has a brother that is like 30 years younger than him! That's outrageous to me...they'll never really get to know each other. I love being close in age to my sisters.:goodvibes Think it gives us a stronger bond...

I'm 3 years younger than my brother and we get along great. I love him.. but I know I felt left out a lot and especially when he went away to school. I can't imagine having 4 kids, though!
Tom's brother is 13 months older than him and he thinks its perfect.
I just don't know if we can afford and if I want to have two kids by the time I'm 23!!

I think my and Greg's biggest problem now is that we're on totally different fields. He did the traditional going away to college thing and my parents paid for everything, while I stayed here and worked and went to the local school and moved out when I was 19..
I moved in with Tom when I was 20. Got married at 21. We willl buy our first house when I'm 21. Already bought a new car (Greg's still driving the one my parents bought him in college) when I was 20. Had a 401k before he did. Moved out before he did (he lived with my parents when I moved out). I have more $$ and less debt (even with my student loans)... and I'll have my first kid at 22.
He's 24, still renting and working and trying to piece his life together. I envy his life sometimes (c'mon, he lives in Orlando!) and wish I'd has his college experience but I can also tell whenever I talk to him now that he definitely envies my life a lot, too. I think it's sorta created a rift between us because we don't really have anything in common to talk about anymore.
He called me last time and we were picking out a fridge to buy. He was trying to decide what concert to go. Just different realms.
This is the first year we won't do something Christmas related at WDW together since I graduated high school... I think he's really bummed I'm not flying down but boy has my life changed this last year!!

Aww yeah I can see how you guys could have become distant. Like that is how I feel with Hayley and Heather. Hayley has moved to New Jersey for her job now. Like I love her and all but I feel a world apart from her sometimes.:confused3 And well Heather was gone at the end of my sophomore year of high school and then I didn't see her til almost 2 years later. Not to mention she is the most different of the 4 of us...I feel like she's either not family or not a sister like a distant cousin or something.:rotfl: But HOLLY has always been there! My senior year of high school she had just graduated college and came back to live at home so it was JUST the two of us while Hayley was up in NJ at school so Holly and I got extremely close really fast. I really just couldn't imagine my life without her. You would think we were the closest in age or something!:rotfl:

So, Holly is the oldest? I lose track! :)

It's great you guys are so close. You know you'll always have each other and know you'll never lose track of each other.. you're family!!
