Disney Wonder Sept 3-7,2006 Part 2

GREAT! I am glad it's all working out!

I copied the picture to our post-Panama Canal Cruise thread to tease a guy whose taste is more subdued. Several others liked it tho.

Jan :earsgirl:

Haha. My mother hates me for doing Vegas theme. She can't find anything "girlie" to torture me with.
I'm trying to decide how to do the colors in terms of plates and napkins to tie the cake into everything else. I want to do a color trio. 1 color plate, different color dinner napkin, with a different color embossed beverage napkin on top.
My mother wants to buy embosessed dinner napkins along with embossed beverage napkins but I think thats basically throwing away money.
I'm thinking black plates, blue dinner napkin, white embossed. Or switch white and black out.

I'm wasting too many brain cells trying to decide these things. :rotfl:

I'm doing great! I'm on medication, I know how to eat right for me now, I've lost what, 35 pounds? I'm healthier, I feel good, and I'm doing things I haven't been able to do in years, like go up the hills at the Renaissance Festival without wheezing, or fit in plane seats without having to ask for a seat belt extender. I still have a loooong way to go, but it's so nice to see the difference.

I have PCOS/Insulin Resistance, and I'm still learning a lot about it. From what I understand, my body doesn't recognize its own insulin, so it thinks it needs to create more, so it floods with insulin. That causes a lot of what I eat to be stored as fat--meaning that no matter what I did, I never lost weight. (I get very angry now about all the years people told me that I must not be trying hard enough to lose weight.) PCOS is polycystic ovary syndrome--which essentially just means I get cysts on my ovaries, which explains the lack of periods. I'm afraid to think about how much my cancer risk is increased from all those years of not having periods. I really really hope that having periods now is lowering the risk.

I get angry about living with this for so long--and having so many of the symptoms disregarded!--but I try to spread the word so that other women won't go undiagnosed for so long. I actually only found out I had it because a friend TOLD me, and insisted that I go to her doctor.

I'm on Lipitor too, but since I stopped eating the low fat diet and went to a low carb diet (not Atkins, and I'm on a plan given to me by my doctor--people usually freak out when I say the words "low carb diet" but rest assured it's just controlled carb and NOT no carb) my cholesterol has changed drastically. I've been so busy that I keep forgetting to call, but I'm hoping that they can lower my dosage of Lipitor, or take me off completely.

I'm so glad you're feeling better without the Lipitor! I can't believe they ignored you, some of those side effects can be pretty serious!

35 pounds! WOW!!
I bet your Renaissance costumes are HANGING on you! Cinch in the what-ever-you-call-the-midriff-band-thingie!! ::yes::

When new reaearch leads to comprehension and differential diagnosos of a new disease, it is easier to give the MDs a pass for not diagnosing it 20 years ago. But when they know it and still tell you it's all in your head or you aren't trying hard enough, I get crazy!!!

I have had good luck with Atkins but now am trying oatmeal for cholesterol so am off it. People get nuts about Atkins because he got some very bad press in his last years from the carbohydrate food industries. This is another of my soap boxes, so I will try not to get going unless someone wants to discuss it.

Glad you are on the mend. Now I'll go look it up.

Jan :)

I vote for Black plates, white dinner napkins and blue embossed napkins on top. Your dress was more white than blue. :thumbsup2

There you go. Decision made. Save your brain cells, ask your DIS-sisters!

LOL Actually, I lost a bra size, so my bodice wouldn't hold up the girls anymore. However, my friend who told me to go get diagnosed--she's also involved in the Renaissance Festival and also has lost weight because she also has Insulin Resistance--loaned me her bodice, so it all worked out. I also bought a MUCH smaller bodice off of eBay, so hopefully I'll fit that next year. It's weird, this is the first time in my life I've been able to buy smaller clothing and feel confident that it will fit me sooner or later.

I can forgive doctors for maybe not knowing about PCOS...but they've known that not having periods causes cancer for quite some time, and they didn't say word one to me.

I'm not sure, but I think Atkins also got a bad rep because a lot of people tried to do it without actually understanding the plan, and ended up hurting themselves.

Wow, Dawn. Yeah. Thats awesome that they got to the bottom of it and you're having luck now but definitely scary to think of all the years that you didn't know! Eek!

So many doctors are crap, in my opinion. My current doctor.. I was one of her first patients after med school. She was super-energetic to try to help me with insomnia and mono at the time.. and now I'm lucky if she even sticks around in the room for more than 5 minutes. It's ridiculous.

You definitely have to have a doctor that you connect with and that you feel you can trust, and even then you should always feel comfortable asking for a second opinion if you feel you need one. It's too bad that yours won't take the time with you!

LOL Crazy Patsy...people elope to get *away* from these kinds of decisions.
Thats what I keep telling my mother. :rotfl:

"Mom, there is a reason I got married over 2,000 miles away from home!":lmao:

We're in Pittsburgh-- flying to Orlando tomorrow at noon. :cool1: Fun in the sun here I come...

Vicki.

Tom and I are in love with Pittsburgh.

We had Ya Fei Chinese food for dinner (yum! have you been?) and now I'm eating Sarris mini-chocolate covered pretzels that I got from the outlet this afternoon.
Greg misses the day trips him and his roommate used to take to Canonsburg so we stopped to get him some... and I am HOOKED!

Do you not remember how cheap houses are down here? No, thanks! We'll stay down here and just drive up there regularly. :rotfl:

This is the one that has currently caught our eye, but based on the price we're apprehensive and very curious as to what is wrong with it.
We've decided to go cheap and make it our own, but with this one having over 1700 sq. feet, being 3 blocks away from the city park (nice area for here) and a GREAT fenced in yard with alley access... we're scratching our heads and wondering what is truly up with it.

Over the weekend, my daughter got 2nd place in the state fair for her painted porcelain elephant, and she got 1st place for the porcelain doll she made! I wish I had pictures, but I'm having computer problems and I can't download pictures. :headache:
