We have decided to take our first Disney Cruise next February 2004. We are also getting a verandah room and I am so excited about this. I think I am going to keep that part a secret from my DH though, and tell him we have an oceanview! Won't that be a surprise!

I have never cruised DCL before. I am really trying to get some good advice for room locations and possible room numbers for this category. Can anyone help? Are there different types of verandah rooms?

There are four different types of verandah rooms, excluding the suites. They range from category 4-7. Category 4 is a deluxe family stateroom, which can hold up to five. These are on deck 8, and are 304 square feet. Category 5 and 6 rooms are deluxe staterooms, with regular verandahs. There category 5's are on deck 7, and the catgegory 6's are on decks 5 and 6. These rooms can have either a verandah with plexiglass or solid metal. The solid metal verandahs are way aft where the ship bends. These are past the cat 7 rooms. The fourth type, the category 7's, are located on decks 5, 6, and 7, and have a "navigator's verandah". These are solid metal verandahs, with a oval porthole cut out (it's open, not glass in it), and it is maps and a built in wooden seat and a wooden chair on it's verandah. Category 5, 6, and 7's are each 268 square feet.

We had solid metal verandahs, and liked them since the staterooms were so far aft, and it was VERY quiet. We were on deck 7, which we found to be a perfect location. :) I'd suggest looking at either the category 5 or 6, and then decide on whether you want the plexiglass or solid metal verandah. One note: you cannot see the water while seated on the metal verandahs. :)

After our experience with noise from above us on deck 9, I would not recommend any room near the middle of the ship on deck 8. We were in 8048 and the noise from deck 9 was very annoying (especially at 4:30 in the morning). We have a cat 4, under the hair salon, booked for our April, 2004 cruise. If you don't need the extra room of a cat 4, but want an open verandah, then I'd say any cat 5 or cat 6 would be ok.

I agree with outahere! We were in 8550 on the Wonder and it absolutely STUNK!!! It was SO noisy after Nassau and you can hear all the noise above you and people and kids running! I would NEVER EVER consider the 8th deck again! It was a terrible experience for our family!!!

We just got back from a Wonder cruise last week. We were
cat.5 rooms 750 & 748 with veranda. We liked being mid
ship and near the stairs and elevators and noise was never
a problem. We found out with in a half hour into our cruise
that taking the stairs is the only way to go . The elevators
are always busy and slow. The ceilings are low on a cruise
ship so it makes a flight of stairs shorter. we could be back
and forth from the pool on level 9 in no time at all. We were
very pleased with the size of our room and the amount of
storage it had. I have heard alot of complaints about deckl
8 because of all the noise and commotion on deck 9. J.

Like CaliforniaDreaming, I am a huge fan of the aft verandah staterooms (particularly 5650 because it is the farthest aft and therefore the most quiet...its mirror room, 5150, is probably the same, but I've never been in that one so I can't say for sure). I have lots more details in my trip reports and the stateroom pages on my website at www.castawayclub.com but for a Cat. 6, it would definitely be 5650 for me. My website has photos that show the difference between the plexiglass and metal verandahs.

I echo Barb with her suggestion of Category 6, Deck 5, AFT - but my favorite room is 5622 - because there is NO one on the left side of you (lifeboats). Great view through the glass verandah and worth every cent!!!!

Rae, we were in 5622 once too, on our Eastern Caribbean cruise! In addition to having a neighbor on only one side, I liked the fact that it is right over the little door where the person jumps onto the pilot boat...entertainment at every sailaway. :D

Barb - you are so right AND we can watch them do their lifeboat drills - when they open the hatch, lower the boats, etc. Very neat for us especially Michael! We always watch the man jump onto the pilot boat and cheer/wave at him when he gets on! Hey, cheap entertainment but it's cool!!

Saw your picture in the Passporter - now I can place a face to a name!! And the Passporter is EXCELLENT even for us veterans!!

I know what you mean...we had so much fun reviewing the Passporter. Tony was just too shy to have his photo in there so I get to take all the credit. :teeth:
