Disney Wonder - October 14, 2012 - Hawaii

Hi all. We received our confirmation letter in the mail this week, so now we can officially say we're in! It'll be myself (Kevin), Danny (DW), Moni (DMiL), Cydnee (DD-5), and Delina (DD-3). It will be the second cruise for all of us, and our second time aboard the Wonder! We're interested in the joining the fish extender exchange, and I would love for someone to send me more information about the postcard list and candy exchange (although I'm guessing the candy one is self explanatory!). Thanks, and see everyone there!

Welcome.

:welcome:

Hi Everyone!!

Looks like we're joining you on this cruise. My name is Pam and DH is Mike. WE are the empty nest parents of 4 (oldest a boy and the other 3 girls) ranging in age from 30-23 our baby will graduate from Indiana University in Dec. now she's doing her internship with Campus Crusade for Christ. I'm a substitute teacher for the local school system right now doing a long term in PE for the rest of the semester. I'm a runner who and will be doing the Princess in Feb with all 3 of our Princesses (my DD's). I'm also learning to quilt and made our FE for the Panama Canal cruise in Jan. DH works for ITT in Ft. Wayne, Indiana he has both electronics and automotive background which is useful in fitting ITT products into military vehicles. We're both excited for this cruise and love the idea of several ship days to relax both at the beginning of the cruise and the end.

We will be celebrating our 34th wedding anniversay on the cruise (10/21), and I would be intrested in fabric and at least one shirt (not sure about DH and the color) will check with him when he gets home.

Hi can you add us to the FE list and postcard list - me - lynne, dh - ivor, daughter emily - 10 - will be 11 than and jonathan 7- will be 8 then. we're from scotland.

see you all then

lynne

Hi to all!

Happy Sunday to everyone! :goodvibes

Could the powers that be add me (Mary), DS Dave (26), and DS Dan (25) to the Roll Call, Lanyards (I would be happy to help on this task and help to fund it), any tastings (like Champagne Girls?), late dinner seating, and a Palo Tea and/or Palo Brunch? Also would like to order 3 shirts of whatever design the group decides upon. Not really into FEs (and not very creative either), so leave us off that list please. Would like to do the postcard exchange though! We will be in cabin 8520 (cat.4B).

We'll be making reservations to stay the Sat. night before the cruise at the Double Tree in San Pedro (the port area). Post-cruise, we're hoping to stay two nights (Sun and Mon) at the VGC on points, but may reserve through Daddio just to have those nights guaranteed at 11 months. Anyone with a similar itinerary interested in a pre- or post-cruise meet? :thumbsup2

Added everyone to the FE list, Shirts, Postcard and Palo wish lists.

No one has come forward to take the lead in the lanyards. I am still working on shirts/fabric and a website to host all these lists (beyond the basic web directory it currently is).

Do any of our cruisers know any of the April Hawaii cruisers? It would be great to know if any of them are planning to blog/post from the cruise. We did the May31 Alaskan and it was so much fun reading the blogs from the inaugural Alaskan.
Sherri

ps. Welcome aboard to our new additions.

What will YOU be doing 11 months from today? I’ll be watching the sun set with my sweetie:lovestruc while enjoying a before dinner cocktail (sigh).:cloud9:

11 months from right now I hope to be sleeping- although I maybe on deck reading and drinking coffee (if it's ready this early) LOL.

11 months from now? I don't know what the time is there. It's midnight here now. But I think doing nothing by the pool, or a trivia, or a character shoot, or perhaps a movie. Or a drink. There are so many things. But especially relaxing and enyoing the cruise.

checked the lists and can see where we're added - is it on another page apart from page 1 ?

DH, DS (age 2) and myself just went on our 1st cruise, it was a 4 night on the Dream, in September and WE LOVED IT! DS keeps talking about going back! Well today we booked Hawaii! I don't think I can ever sail on anything but DCL, it is gonna be great! So far I get negative comments from others who have cruised
What is the Candy bar thing? Post Card thing? Shirt thing? I maybe interested in them, I am gonna think about the FE.

I look forward to all the fun with everyone!

Really?? Negative comments?? How so??

The Wonder is so much nicer than the Dream.. ( my opinion) But the Wonder won't have moving pictures, mini golf, aquaduck, fake portholes, giant sized dining rooms.. but has so much more "heart"... :lovestruc:love:

Negative? Would love to hear what they could be. Granted the Magic/Wonder are smaller than the Dream/Fantasy. Some (including us) say the Classic Ships are more in-your-face Disney vs the Dream/Fantasy. We like them both very much, and will gladly take any opportunity to go on either.

To me, being from Silicon Valley, the Dream has more Nerd options than the Classics (interactive Pictures, Virtual Porthole, Animator's Crush, etc). The Disney kid in me, likes the Classics for the more Disney in-your-face stuff and the cozy, comfortable feel.

Hi (Aloha) and Welcome (E Komo Mai)

I just did a 4-night Dream on Nov 6 - going back for 3 more nights this Sunday.

Yes, some people who have sailed Disney over and over get a little jaded; the newbies help keep the magic alive. It's not perfect, but like your childhood summer camp, it can deliver for you.

Candy Swap - on a sign-up basis. You are given a list of cabins (and # of people participating) and you swap candy. An interesting twist to this is when people bring candy from their home region. Distribution is usually carried out by placing the candy in a bag hanging outside the stateroom; the bag is attached to a decorative metal fish (and thus called a Fish Extender).

Post Card Exchange - would be similar to candy swap. Definitely using a regional/local post card.

Shirt - the April Hawai'i sailing have a camp-style (button front) Hawaiian shirt made from material specific to their cruise. If we have enough interest, we can modify the pattern to our sail date, probably in a different color.

Lynne, Welcome to this DISboard thread

(to the rest of you - we sailed together last year)

Lisa (OP) has done a great job of gathering information onto Page 1 now that we are starting to pick up momentum and some names to put on the list (boy that took a while!)

ppartekim has a spread sheet to keep up with a lot of the sign-ups.

- Lynne (I love doing that - like talking to myself:goodvibes)

ALOHA Pam and Mike!

The April group suggested we change the color for our cruise - if there is a color that would be more favorable to your husband, it might be the same for others! Make a suggestion.

Aloha! Mary, Dave and Dan

E Komo Mai to our ohana.

I volunteered somewhere (I think) to head up lanyards. Oh, yes, we even starting looking at name tag ideas a month or so ago. Will definitely looking for partners in crime for this project. I am a name tag making fiend - I love that job! I bought a good laminator last year for that purpose and find it very therapeutic - for what, I don't know, but it puts me in a good mood.

I'm planning on arriving in CA by Friday afternoon Oct 12 to do Halloween at Disneyland. Saturday is LA stuff (probably visit my niece who is in school). Some of us are looking at getting transportation together to save $ and not be at the mercy of DCL's bus schedule. We will probably be coming from Anaheim, though, whereas you will be RIGHT there.

- Lynne

...No one has come forward to take the lead in the lanyards. ...

(sheepishly):

I would love to do Lanyards (with others help/input, of course) or at least the name tag inserts. This is such a fun project. I use photo paper and laminate them to keep them fresh for such a long cruise.

I know we will have more join our thread after the Fantasy Maiden Voyage and the December holiday season, so we might get the Great Lanyard Leader joining us then (this is not referring to anyone in particular, just the possibility of a great lanyard person existing).

I think the easiest way I've seen is to have a Lanyard team to contribute to the cost and then make them available to everyone for free.

...

The Lanyard Team is made of those who pitch in about $20-25 to cover the costs of lanyards to be supplied free of charge to everyone. One lanyard is a few dollars. This would include the plastic badge/name tag holder and the printed lanyard.

If we don't want to be really inventive, we could even use the "Sail Away to Hawai'i" wording on the retro ship graphic. Add the date, "Disney Wonder," and, voila, lanyard wording. Throw in a hibiscus for a decorative divider.

We can play around with the retro ship graphic and add more cruise specific info for tee shirts and such.

And there's always a chance somebody with graphic skills will come along and make us a great logo.
