Today kicks off my last weekend of summer. We chose to start school the first week of August so that there wouldn't need to be any reason to hurry up and work ahead so that we could have the entire week of the cruise off, and we would still be able to finish the fall semester before Christmas.
Unfortunately, I kept so busy during our break, that there are a few things on my check list that I never got to. I still have a weekend though. Hopefully I can at least get everyone's sports bottles painted. I wouldn't so much mind mistaking my hubby's sports bottle for mine, but I don't think I want to make the same mistake with my sons. Aside from that, I just need to find small Mickey head apliques.
That will leave list making, organizing, and packing for the next few months.
For all of our first time cruisers, I know that 3 months and change seems like a long time until your vacation starts, but believe me when I tell you, that it will fly by before you know it. As summer is wrapping up, and stores are putting their summer items on sale to make room for the loads of school year merchandise that is coming in, now is the time to shop for all of your cruise items. If you wait until the end of September or October, it will be very difficult to find anything summery (such as swim wear, snorkel gear, and beach towels ). Also, something I have learned the hard way, definitely buy up a size for the kids. 2 years back, we went to do our pre cruise shopping in August, and figured since our youngest typically only has 1 major growing spurt a year (which was usually in the middle of the school year ) that we would be safe in getting his cruise gear in his current size (at that point the cruise was just a month away ). Boy were we wrong. Not only did he grow 3 to 4 inches before the cruise, he out grew his football helmet by the 2nd game of the season.
Also for those moms who may be getting some new shoes for the cruise, the sooner you get the shoes, the more time you will have to wear them in (no blisters...Yeah! ). Because, even though this is a cruise, and not the parks, you will be doing a lot of walking (take a look at a map of the Wonder and locate your room, then locate everything you want to do or go to. There is a running deck on board, and I believe it says 3 times around equals 1 mile. So if you are like me, and your cabin is at one end of the boat, with a majority of the dining and activities at the other, you could easily walk a mile if not 2 before lunch).
Have a great weekend,
