Disney Wonder Mexico Oct 9 2011

We went on our first Disney trip ever in April 11 with the kids. Now we are going on our first cruise ever with a couple of friends who are even bigger kids :rotfl:

Can't Wait :yay:

We would like to get in on the list as well. Louis 31 & Kami 31 - going to DL on Oct 16th AFTER the cruise. GTY

Another first - this is our first post to DISboards :thumbsup2

Welcome to the party! :woohoo:

Justhat,

When do you think we should cut off the list? A month ahead (9/9)? Six week ahead (8/26)?

I know that what we're doing doesn't need a lot of lead time, but I wouldn't feel safe assuming that the same case can be made for everyone else....

Does anyone know if there is any Halloween celebration at the time of the cruise? For the FE, is anyone opposed to having Halloween themed gifts?

Thats actually a good question. I googled it and it appears DCL did some trick or treating on the ships last year during October. People would dress up and trick or treat to various parts of the ship and get candy. I would post a link to the discussion on it, but this message board wont let you post links if you have under a 10 post count. Anyways, it will be interesting to see if they do that this year or not.

As for your other question, our family would certainly be fine receiving Halloween FE gifts. My two daughters absolutely love that holiday.

Thanks! My friend and I are so excited and got even more excited when we thought about Halloween.

I'm not sure, but that would be a good question to find out. We're taking our kids to the Disneyland Halloween party before we get on the boat, so we'll already have their costumes packed, but it would still be nice to know.

As for the FE gifts, I'm just happy to get and give! :goodvibes

Do we need to put out a missing persons report for Justhat? :confused3 Hopefully she will turn up on this board again soon.

So is anybody getting excited about this cruise besides me? Our family is counting down the days now. Its been a rough year at work, and I am looking forward to a vacation.

What excursions does everybody have planned? I am going deep sea fishing one day. My two daughters want to do one of those swim with the dolphins things. My wife has yet to choose anything yet.

Hopefully everybody is doing well. Only 46 days to go.......

We're so excited, it's painful. It seems that the days are going by slower the closer we get! :)

The only excursion we booked was the private island trip (Las Caletas Hideaway) out of Puerto Vallarta. I've heard great things about it, and though it won't be a Castaway Cay replacement, it's as close as we're going to get.

Beyond that, though, we're just planning on hanging out on the boat, enjoying Palo at the Tea, Brunch, and Dinner seatings, and maybe we'll do some shopping in Cabo, too.

We're doing the Pirate Ship Excursion in P.V. and thinking about doing the Dolphin Swim in Cabo. Haven't decided yet. We are getting super excited though!

We're gonna miss Castaway Cay too, but the Mexican Riviera will be a whole new experience for us.

I'm really excited about our cruise! :woohoo: No excursions for us since we are bringing the little ones. I'm so happy to finally be able to go on vacation that I don't care if I stay on the ship the whole time.

I really like the FE give away. In the past we've received one FE gift per cabin and/or one FE gift per person. This is at one's own discretion. :)

Has a cruise meet been set up for Embarkation Day? I don't think I saw this posted. :goodvibes

We met up with everyone about 45-60 minutes before the fire drill on our last cruise, and it worked great. This way everyone had time to get on the ship and eat beforehand, but it wasn't so late in the day that it messed with dinner/show schedules.

Any other experiences out there?

We're excited too! We were just on the Western Caribbean in May and this trip was a spur of the moment surprise. Cindy and I are working on our Fish Extenders (at work! shh, don't tell the boss!) and making one for Karen and Frank's cabin as well. The four of us are doing the Sea Lion encounter and dinner at Palo the first night. After that, I think we'll be spending a lot of time at the Quiet Cove!

Sorry, my kids started school last week and my schedule has been crazy, so I haveb't updated the FE list in awhile. I'll read through the pages I missed and update it today.

Question for some of you that have cruised DCL before: I have read that DCL is a bit more casual than other cruise lines dress code wise. Is that correct from your experiences? I have cruised Celebrity, RCL and Norwegian before, and the dress code policy is followed pretty strictly by most passengers. In other words, people dress up on formal night and wear suit and tie. The woman often dress in very nice dresses on those nights. I have read that many people do not dress up on DCL on formal night and people have suggested on other boards to leave the suit and tie at home. What are your experiences? Thanks in advance.

So I briefly read the last page and change, and I think the cutoff should be a month out. I think that's enough time for everyone to get their stuff done. I did a fairly time-consuming project for our last cruise and was able to do it in about 2 weeks. I'll likely do the same this time (well, slightly different as I'll do a Mexico theme instead of Alaska ;) ) and I'm fine with a month out.

And I saw the additions/deletions, but I can't update it at the moment, cause if I don't go to the gym now, I will never go!

We have done several 4-night cruises in the past, and it's been extremely casual, but they don't have a "formal" night. From what I hear, the 7-night and longer cruises do "highly encourage" you to dress up. They won't prevent you from going in to the dining room, but I would expect you to be in the minority if you didn't.

We're planning on dressing up. We don't get the opportunity to dress up often, and although we see this as a relaxing vacation, we think that a formal (and semi-formal) night adds to the fun! :)

Ryan

MillerFam, I would say people get dressed up on formal night as much as other cruise lines. We've done Celebrity, RCCL, and Princess and didn't really feel any difference between them and Disney on formal night.

DigginDisney, you said you wanted to be added to the list, but before I put you on the FE list, I wanted to be sure that's what you meant.

And to whomever asked, I am fine with Halloween stuff.

We're doing the pirate ship thing too, and had a dolphin thing booked, but I just don't want to leave my youngest behind on the ship so I'm going to have to change it. My husband and oldest were doing the dolphin swim, me and my son were doing the dolphin encounter. But Scarlett just started preschool last week and she's mildly traumatized. She likes it and I watched her today when she didn't know I was there and she was very happy and playing, but she hasn't napped since she started and has been waking up overnight crying. She also isn't thrilled at dropoff. So, to put her int he ship nursery for hours, when I'm somewhere in Mexico, just isn't sitting right. So I think I'll switch my husband and oldest to the dolphin encounter with my son. Then it leaves the pirate ship. Scarlett can swim, but she swims in pools, not saltwater. She's used to opening her eyes underwater and that would not work out in the ocean. Hmm.

We got our room assignments today & got upgraded from 11C to 9C #2136. Does anyone know anything about that room. I could only find one review & it said there was lots of noise & vibration bad enough to make things fall off the dresser. I hope thats not the case...the review was from 2008.
