Disney Wonder Jan 23, 2011

Jessica,

I hope you're majoring in business. Getting a price break from $180 to $1.26 each is phenomenal! :). Sorry - couldn't resist.

I hope your finals went or are going well. Ten more papers to grade and final discussion boards to review and I'll be done for the semester only to start classes again the day after we return from our cruise.

Kris

:rotfl2: LOL, Ryan keeps telling me if I happen to get into the Ivy League that I have to major in business. He said it would be the only degree I could get that would be "worth" the cost of an ivy league school! Maybe with my new found talent for business it would be a good idea! :rotfl2:

Classes are, ehh. One final left, tomorrow. It's actually a test that's been posted for more than a week and I haven't even started it. After work tomorrow I will come straight home and work on it until it's due at 11:59 PM. Unfortunately I haven't actually read everything for it either, so I probably will be doing it all night. Math was ehh - not really sure how I did on it, but I guess I will find out soon. English was good, just an in-class essay. I chose Aristotle and Nietzsche and didn't really answer the question, I showed why the question was moot. Even if I get a low grade on the final I think I will still get an A in the class. I lost my mind completely and one of the tests I forgot to do all together! I emailed my professor and he let me turn it in late. That man's a saint I tell you, a saint! :thumbsup2 :rotfl:

I'm glad to hear you're almost done with your grading. You're lucky class starts the day after you get back from the cruise; mine start the week before the cruise so, not only will I be losing quite a bit of points, I will be doing homework on the cruise! One of my English teachers for next semester emailed me the list of novels we will be reading so I can get a head start on them. That ONE class we are reading FIVE novels! Plus there will be a collection of plays and other writings. I guess it will be a taste of what's to come at CalState. :scared1:

ok i found it !!! I remembered this from my last cruise so
i thoughti would re post here ...this is
sooooo coollll !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Want to know when yours are coming

Click on this link to UPS:

You will be tracking by reference #. In the "reference number" box, enter your DISNEY reservation number.(This is what they use as reference #) Then enter your country in the "destination country" box and then your destination zip code and then click track. If you get "nothing on file" or something like that then they haven't shipped yet. Mine were shipped today!

I just picked up the 2011 brochure and it still shows Golden Mickeys as one of the shows. I missed it on the Magic earlier this year, so I'm hoping it's on the Wonder next month.

Enjoy your anniversary getaway. I'm sure you'll have a blast.

Kris

YAY!!! That just made my day! Thanks Kris! Sergio and I will definitely have a blast. :lovestruc

As far as cruise docs, are there additional docs that we have to receive in the mail other than the ones on the disneycruise.com website to check in? Because if that's the case, I haven't received those.

JESSICA: Good luck on your final(s)! :thumbsup2

yes you will get a little booklet in the mail with your transfer tickets etc plus LUGGAGE TAGS !!! Woo hoo I know its not much but it makes it feel all the more closer :-)

OK Here is what I found out from my secret inside source :-) Drum roll please LOL Here is a listing of the shows when we sail ! This is a confirmed source too !

The live stage shows are scheduled to be:
All Aboard-Let the Magic Begin Variety Show
The Golden Mickeys
Toy Story-The Musical
Disney Dreams-An Enchanted Classic
Remember the Magic

I hope everyone has a chance to see the golden mickeys and dreams they are amazing - Does anyone know about the others ????? Has anyone ever seen them ? feedback would be great !

Thanks for the info, Cari. It's great to know the line up and to know there will be a couple of shows we haven't seen. As for cruise docs, ours came today for the two day cruise, but they came by USPS, not UPS.

Yanira, the cruise docs are mainly symbolic. Unless you're using DCL transfers or air, the only truly useful item is the luggage tags. Sometimes the include a shore excursion book or stateroom gift listing. And if you haven't completed the online forms, it will state that you need to do so; if you have completed them, you will be told to print them out. Again, mainly a symbolic gesture that the cruise is getting near.

For those who are interested, I did a search of ships that will be in port with us.

Sunday, 1/23 (Los Angeles): Mariner of the Seas (RCI)

Wednesday, 1/26 (Puerto Vallarta): Radiance of the Seas (RCI)

Thursday, 1/27 (Mazatlan): Carnival Splendor

Friday, 1/28 (Cabo San Lucas): Carnival Splendor

Sunday, 1/30 (Los Angeles): Mariner of the Seas (RCI) & Queen Victoria

Kris
Just read that the Splendor is going to take longer to repair than originally planned so they've cancelled an additional six cruises. Thus, we should be the only ship in port in Mazatlan and Cabo.

We're new to DISboards - just found out about it yesterday! This will be our first cruise. Naturally, we can't wait. Two adults (though my DW would probably debate that at this point) Dave and Jessica, and two kids, a DS, 11, and a DD, 9. We're from San Diego. Got our FE made. And, I'm sleeping with my pirate hat until the cruise!!!

See ya,

Dave

WELCOME DAVE (and everyone else I haven't said welcome to)! :cheer2:

Soooo....I received my cruise docs today via USPS...and...I'M EXTRA EXCITED NOW!!! :woohoo: I now see what you were talking about Kris and Cari!

Have a great weekend everyone!

Dave, are you a bky atty?

where?

oregon here.

2. to one organizing a scavenger hunt... please let me know if this happens. The one thing my tween commented about the DCL kids programs was that scavenger hunt wasn't as well-planned as on another line and the other line did them daily. She really LOVES scavenger hunts, and I am hoping the director of children's programming will realize kids love these. If anyone does organize one, please post or private message me with day, time and meeting place.

.

I think you are talking to me :-) Not sure if anybody else was doing the scavenger hunt on the cruise. I wasn't doing one on the cruise. The one I posted was what I was doing for my kids for Christmas to surprise them with the Disney Cruise. Sorry.

Hi Dave, welcome! We moved from San Diego a couple years ago. We are in Central Ca. now.. Fresno. My kids are almost the same ages as yours. I have 2 boys. Jaren is 12 and Braden is 8.

Hi all
Has anyone ever used the patches you put behind your ear for sea sickness? Any feedback would be great as Wendi will be trying one both before and during the cruise ( Before to see if it makes her sick or too sleepy ) I hope it works for her and would love feedback!

I used them on my last cruise. Technically, they worked great. I had no seasickness and I'm super, super prone to it. However they gave me really extreme dry mouth, so bad that my voice was getting hoarse despite constantly sipping water, so after two days I took it off. I survived the rest of the cruise quite well on just Bonine and ginger capsules (from whole foods).

I've seen all the shows and I like them all. The first and the last include a little bit of a stage show about a family going on a cruise plus two variety acts each.

Thank you all for the warm welcome! You guys are the best!!!! We can't wait to meet you. Yes, I have Bankruptcy Firms in southern CA in San Diego, Riverside, Orange and Los Angeles. Mostly, however, I personally specialize in complex child custody litigation in State Court. So let the tax write-off's begin! Actually, that's my side job: I'm the keyboardist for Sixty Years On, a (hopefully!) well-known Elton John tribute band. My DW is our lighting director. We're hoping to meet some new friends (and kid friends for the kids) so we know people on the cruise. This is going to be the most fun we've ever had!

Dave and Jessica - Welcome! You sound like a fun family. We used to live in the San Diego area. I lived in Escondido and worked in Carlsbad. My DW worked at UCSD. We loved it down there and miss it.

Cari - I've tried nearly everything for seasickness as I'm really sensitive to being on small boats and spinning rides. I used the patch as a precaution for my first two cruises. I still felt a little queasy because the waters were VERY rough. I did get some really bad dry mouth. Water didn't even help for the first day. The dry mouth gradually wore off by day 3 but by then, it was time to put on a new patch.

I also tried ginger capsules, bonine and eventually just non-drowsy Dramamine. All of these except the ginger didn't really make me feel drowsy but if I put my head down for a second, I was out. What really helped me was taking one non-drowsy Dramamine in the morning and another at night rather than two at one time. Then on my last cruise I forgot to pack anything and never felt seasick. Go figure. I will probably pack some Dramamine this time but not take any unless I start to feel sick.

Still no cruise docs here. I looked up that number but it showed two delivery addresses and both having received the shipments. I'm guessing one is our TA who will then be shipping them to us. Now that we can do so much online, there isn't as much of a need to get these but it sure helps with the anticiptation. Maybe I'll have to use the luggage tags as Christmas ornaments until we take the tree down!

Welcome Dave & all the others who will be joining us! party::welcome:

Now, I want my docs!!! Where are they? :sail:

Still no docs from DCL. I figure they probably saw my credit rating and rerouted me to a cruise directly back to my hotel. :)

I'm definitely going for the patches just in case. I don't want to take the chance that I'm not seaworthy. I already know I'm not landworthy, and as we've already explored, creditworthy. No patches for that. My DW thinks I'm being hypersensitive, but all the other remedies don't strike me as being sufficient and my first cruise is a bad time to find out I can't sleep on the world's biggest waterbed. I can live with dry mouth, which is why I'm packing a suitcase full of Propel and a coupla wine bottles!

Can I board now? ;)

I've been researching Canopy Tours in PV again. We had our hearts set on Los Veranos (http://www.canopytours-vallarta.com) but were considering doing the tour through DCL instead for piece of mind. I called DCL to find out if that was the company and place they used. It took a while for them to find out and call me back but I learned the place they use is called Vallarta Adventures (http://www.vallarta-adventures.com/tours/canopy-adventure-park). I looked into them when I was doing my original research. The guest reviews aren't quite as high. I think the biggest complaint is it's a lot more physically demanding. You have to climb a rope ladder, walk 15 minutes uphill and up stairs. There is also a long, narrow cliffside walk you have to do that is pretty intimidating for some.

The advantage of the place Disney uses is that they have two cables for redundancy and safety. Los Veranos only has one cable. One thing I like about Los Veranos is they allow cameras and video cameras and Vallarta Adventures doesn't. They claim it's for safety but then they try to sell you photographs of yourselves.

I think we have pretty much decided to just do it on our own through Los Veranos. If anyone else wants to book it and wants to coordinate doing the tour at the same time, let us know!
