Disney Wonder Jan 23, 2011

Thank you for the birthday wishes everyone! :goodvibes It's awesome to know we share the same birthday, Kris! :thumbsup2

So the Halloween trick or treat party was amazing. Quick summary: it was raining for most of the day, and stopped raining 5 minutes before we got there. It was so cool! I don't know if it was because of the rain or lack of ticket sales, but the park was soooo empty. There were 5-15 minute waits on ALL the rides. We got there at 7:45 p.m., and ate as soon as we got there, so we only had about 3 hours to do whatever we wanted to do until we were kicked out. We were able to ride on Pirates, Haunted Mansion, Space Mountain and saw Captain EO, and took pictures with Genie, Jafar, and Hades. The Halloween parade was short but very cute, and the fireworks (which are exclusive for the Halloween party this year) are the SAME fireworks that were shown last year during the Halloween season
. We got tons of candy and had A LOT of fun.

Okay, I have to get back to work.

Happy birthday to you AND Kris! I haven't been on the boards in forever, so I'm sorry I'm late!

Honestly - is the party worth $100? I mean, you get to go on the holiday rides (haunted mansion & space mountain) whether your purchase tickets or not. If you saw the fireworks last year, then they are nothing new. And aside from the parade, the only thing you really get is candy. I'm not trying to be a downer, but I'd really like your completely honest opinion. Is it worth $100?!?!? If so, then we will probably go in a couple of weeks for our 8 year wedding anniversary. Otherwise, we will skip it. Let me know!!

Ok - off to do homework, as always.

Everyone: As a side note, I am not able to keep up with the updates on the FE list. We are keeping it 1 list (as determined a couple of weeks ago), but I know that some people have emailed me about cabin changes, etc. Please keep sending me this info, just know that I will have Ryan managing this from now on since I just don't have the time. I'm sorry everyone, I was truly enjoying doing it, but I am sooo swamped! :scared1: I have faith in Ryan though, he's probably more detailed than me! Who-ever thought that could be possible!?! :confused3 :rotfl2:

My complete honest opinion is that it would not be worth it for you guys. You would basically pay $100 for candy, the Halloween parade, and very short queue lines. Everything else you can do on a regular visit to DL. It was still a lot of fun though, as every visit to DL is, but I would not have gone if it wasn't my birthday.

Which airport is best to fly into - LAX or Long Beach? We will be staying in a hotel the night before the cruise and wondered which airport is the closest to the cruise ship terminal. Thanks :)

Yanira: We spent the weekend at DLR and considered the Halloween Party, but figured the same thing as you just stated. It was fun to see the Halloween decorations, though, during the normal operating hours.

When in October is your birthday? Do we share the month, week, or day?

Sue: I owe you a big one for the heads-up on the preshow entertainment at the first showing of World of Color. It was great to see the "puppets" in action. Unfortunately, my DS still calls Lumiere "The Stick" and didn't want to have anything to do with the Bell or Mulan at Goofy's Kitchen. Oddly enough, he didn't mind Aurora on the Magic because he thought she was Hannah Montana and has no issue with the characters with the fake heads. Go figure!

Long Beach is by far the closest airport as the Port of Los Angeles is actually in San Pedro, which is the town next to Long Beach. It's less than half the distance compared to LAX and the traffic will be less of an issue.

You are quite welcome, Kris. :woohoo: I have been going through our quick trip down there this week & I sadly have decided that we can't fit in time to see WOC this time. We are talking about another quick trip down to see the Christmas decorations & I am hoping we get time then. Maybe early December...anyone going? Maybe a pre-pre-cruise meetup? :confused3
Jessica, we are going to the party purely for Alec. :wizard: Well, the candy & we didn't get to see the Halloween fireworks, last year & with Jeff's Mom going we can go on Space Mtn with the overlay. For you & Ryan, you are probably better off not spending the $$. We probably shouldn't either but Jeff loves to spoil Alec.
Later,
Sue

To add to what has already been said (& I agree 100%) LAX is one CRAZY busy airport:eek: & there are plenty of airlines that will give you a cheaper rate to fly into the smaller airports.

I've read that before too (fly into Long Beach) and tried that route but to my knowledge we don't have an airline that will go to Long Beach instead of LAX from Canada. At least I can't find one and I ABSOLUTELY REFUSE to use Air Canada so maybe they do? I didn't even consider them at all, so it might be worth a shot? Are you flying out of Vancouver? They might also have more flight options than us if that's the case. Let me know if you've had any success with that, I'm curious. :goodvibes

Hey Wonder crew! I haven't posted in forever and now I see just how far behind I am  At this point I just have to laugh instead of cry!! Maybe both!:lmao: :sad2:

I'm sure all of you have probably seen this already, but I love this little Tilt-Shift video on youtube and it's a great mood booster! I get pumped every time I watch it so I thought I would pass it along in the off chance some you haven't seen it before. I love the music in it too, it's so catchy I just wish I could find out the name of the tune! Anyway here it is. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fOZa7zDz8EI

Jessica/Ryan we finally have our cabin number (suspiciously RIGHT after I entered our flight info in, so maybe we would have had it sooner if I'd entered it in earlier??). I'll e-mail it to you since I think there was a post that stated you aren't able to check the site as often??

Also "Wonder"ing (cheesy I know, but I had to!) if anyone knows how far out to book shuttle service for? I'm hoping I'm not too late. We fly in the night before, so can't do the Disney transportation and I'm also wondering if there is any service that any of you have used and found reliable??? I'm not super concerned for the ride to the cruise since we come in the day before, but the debarkation day is the one I'm concerned with. We have an early afternoon flight but I really don't want the end of our great vacation ruined with a stressful haul to the airport with two kids in tow. Any helpful info would be much appreciated:flower3:

Also, I was trying to quickly scan through some posts to try and find info on the final decision about FE list and I have to say; I know where to come if we ever make a trip to DL! :goodvibes You guys have no idea how lucky you all are! You make more trips to DL than I do to my mailbox! :cool1: I guess it helps if you live close by, and it sure would be fun to go there on a whim whenever we felt like it! Maybe a little too convenient. :rolleyes1

We're headed back to DLR sometime in December, probably the 11th. My DW usually gets free admission to Knott's between Thanksgiving and Christmas, so we were thinking of doing a Friday at Knott's and a Saturday at DLR. We're only about 75 miles from the park, but with a 3 year old we usually just plan a whole day there and stay at a cheap motel within walking distance for nap purposes.

Have you tried John Wayne in Orange county? Probably not any closer than LAX, but it's a very easy, non-crowded airport.

As for shuttles in your later post, I've used the major ones from time to time, but never at a port (just to airports from home). I had really good luck with Prime Time Shuttle and thought their prices were very competitive. You could probably book within 30 days and still be okay.

Hi all
I would say try a town car - My friend Amber who is crusing with us says try her driver renee he is wonderful and will charge by mile vs by person . He has people who work for him as well who can take more than 4 people .... his number is 1 818 269 6285 tell him rick and amber boggs sent you -
Long beach is closer but not much and hotel selection is less in long beach vs LAX - John wayne is wonderful too :-) but far

The 11th might be good for us. :thumbsup2 Hopefully, early enough to not get the Christmas vacation crowd & after the Thanksgiving holiday crowds. We will probably have to stay with MIL in the valley. Not too far but not as close as staying at Paradise Pier like we are tomorrow night. :woohoo: Can you tell I am excited! :wizard: :dance3::yay:
Anyone else want to try for a pre-cruise meet on Dec 11th? :grouphug: Nothing major maybe just plan to be at the same place at the same time? :confused3 Anyone?

We look forward to sailing with you!

We are celebrating our anniversary of getting married on the Wonder by Capt Henry in Jan '09.

Any 20/30 something's crusing without kids like us let us know or look for us at the Cadillac lounge before the late dinner seating.

The 11th sounds good to me.

Did anyone go to ElecTRONica last weekend? We aren't exactly dance party type people, but TRON was one of my favorite movies years ago and I am looking forward to the new one this winter so I want to check it out.

Hey sweeite - sorry for the delay, I've been crazy busy! I agree, but we're going anyway. :) :( We wanted to go away for our anniversary but funds are tight - so - rather than do nothing we decided to take the day off work, go to Disneyland, and go to the Halloween party that night. We're hoping that since it's a Tuesday it'll be really nice the whole day. We're going to spend the night nearby Monday night, have anniversary dinner at Steakhouse 55, then Tuesday spend the day at Disneyland and also go to the Halloween party that night. I'm excited about having the day off work and spending it with Ryan, and it will be fun to see the parade, but I don't really care about the party. Like I said - I guess it's better to go to Disney for the day and than it is to not do anything!

Welcome to the cruise! Congratulations on your anniversary, and, how exciting - married on the ship! Ryan and I have discussed doing a vow renewal on the ship but haven't decided yet.

Anyhow - my husband, Ryan, and I are 20/30 something's with no kids! At the time of the cruise I will be 29 and he will be 31. Yanira and Sergio (who are great folks!) are also 20/30 something's with no kids! (Yanira - hope it's OK that I included you guys in this).

If you want me to add you guys to our little web page, please send me a private message with your info!

not sure how much of a drive it is, but have you considered seattle? i live near toronto and the taxes are insane and the flights to smaller u.s. airports limited. so i generally drive the 2 hrs. to buffalo or detroit and save hundreds of dollars. i'm sure seattle would have a flight to long beach.
