Disney Wonder Jan 23, 2011

Does anyone know what time we can check our bags in at the port? I also would like to know when we can board. I am trying to watch a football game at noon and this trip is getting in my way. I appreciate any help, 3G.
My info says we can start boarding about 1PM & be on board by 4PM.
Really didn't they keep that in mind for football fans? :3dglasses ;) Looks like you will miss the beginning or the end:sad2:
Sue

I am positive that my son, the football nut, will have his laptop out and the game running over broadband.....in the waiting area to board.....

My interest in Star Trek begins and ends with ST:TNG. I never cared for the original series or voyager. I never saw the most recent series (Enterprise?). I had a friend/roommate who liked DS9 so I saw quite a few episodes, but I wasn't paying much attention. So no conventions for me. I have seen a car full of Klingons in Mira Mesa, but that was about 10 years ago and rather strange.

While I'm not a big Star Trek fan, I love the movie Trekkies. It is a documentary about some pretty hard core Star Trek fans and the conventions and so forth. So very amusing and worth watching even for those who are not Star Trek fans.

I've watched them all since the STTNG, and I have to say that STTNG was my favorite. Never really liked Voyager (although I watched it) and wasn't that into DS9 or Enterprise until the end. Enterprise had promise beginning in its fourth season and could have been compelling if it had been renewed.

I'll check out "Trekkies" as I haven't seen it.

LOVE ST:TNG. I have every episode on DVD. I liked Voyager and saw some DS9, but otherwise I'm totally with you on this. And if the strangest thing you see in Mira Mesa is Klingons, you're pretty lucky. Although I can't bag on 'em too much 'cause they have a Bucca di Beppo.

Glad to hear and you can't go wrong with Bucca, especially since it's easy to get to since it's right off the freeway.

Off Topic --> Me too. I love Captain Pickard DS9 was tolerable, but the rest are just boring to me. Although I must admit that I am interested in attending a convention someday, just to solidify my chances for the geekiest Mom of the decade award.

I should make it clear that I've only been to one convention. I believe it was the 25th anniversary of Star Trek and they had the entire STTNG cast there. It was pretty fun, but also pretty nerdy. I did get a few autographs, however, and have seen every movie.

I'd guess 10:00 a.m. since everyone should be off the ship by 9:30 a.m. However, I've once had to wait until 10:30-11:00 on another cruise line.

Kris

Hi Julie, that was probably me that posted on that facebook page. I responded and asked if anybody was on this cruise and if so to check out the disboard to meet others like we did :-) Welcome, Glad you made it.
I'm Tonya. We have 2 boys. Jaren is 12 and Braden is 8. Where in Ca. do you live? We are in Fresno.

Hi Tonya! Yes, I think that was you! I live in San Bernardino. We can't wait for Sunday!

Don't worry Dave... there will be more room at the pool and at the shows for us while you're catching up on your sleep! :rolleyes1

Cheap, er. free email doesn't exist on cruise ships. On previous cruises on Carnival I saw many people stampede off the ship to partake of cheap Internet cafe services right off of the ship in the port.

No doubt Disney will offer onboard Internet, but be prepared that it won't be cheap!:scared1:

I also have a Droid/Verizon (luvit, luvit, luvit!) but I'm cheap enough to forgo it's sultry siren's song for a week... :worship:

Cheers,
Cheryl

I'm in the same boat (Ha!) with you. Love my Verizon droid, but have been expressly forbidden to turn it on. In fact, I think the deal is that I have to leave it at home. What kind of nonsense is THAT? I could facebook post this vacation all the live-long day. Yes, I (mostly) like my fb friends and don't want them to be green with envy. Much.

Awesome Facebook idea! I sent in my request to join and am now anxiously awaiting my red "REJECTED" email. I'm leaving the Droid Pro at home. No, I can't.....my precious! I can do this. Where'd I leave those special meds the doc gave me? I think he was a doctor. Might have been the plumber.

My wife and daughter are sharing a suitcase. I have three. I'll never hear the end of this. My son is 11 and has shorts, shoes and socks. Dude travels light.

A special thanks to those of you who've had your daughter email Alex, she's thrilled to have new friends. She doesn't have her own email address so she's using one of my old ones, donhomer, which I named when Homer Simpson was in the mafia or something, I don't recall now.

Maybe just one more suitcase....

Dave,

I will have Lily email Alex when she's finished with her Science Fair Project from HELL. We've had some intense days around here since it has to be done before we leave and, well...don't get me started. I used to love year-round school since it affords us the ability to travel at off-times - but since every time they go off-track they have a huge project...well, it's wearing thin.

Also, I will let you borrow my Kindle to check your email. Only $1.00 a minute! :rolleyes1 :)

p.s. Should Lily use donhomer (at where?) or the one you sent the other day?

OK, since we have only been on one cruise, there is a debate as to when we find out our seating rotation. My husband says we found out ahead of time and I say we didn't find out until we got our Key cards. Who is right???

I didn't know until we received our KTTW at check-in last January on the Magic. I've heard you could request a specific rotation in the past, but I'm not sure what purpose that serves.

Speaking of documentaries, have you seen "King of Kong?" If you liked "Trekkies" you'll :worship: this documentary.

I've seen the last half of King of Kong. What I saw I liked. I keep meaning to watch the whole thing, but my netflix queue is about a mile long and I just haven't gotten there yet.

I just got my Droid 2 in December and with all the apps I have now, I love it. I went into Verizon yesterday & begged them to let me know what to do. I am not getting international but they told me that if I leave it on airplane mode it will all be good. My problem is I am a news junkie and I will be so tempted to get the latest news. :surfweb: I have a few books on Amazon that I want to read so there is no way I will leave my Droid home. Plus who can leave Angry Birds behind! :3dglasses

Have you looked at google books? They have a couple of thousand free books that you can read on your phone (or your computer I would assume) and then books you can pay for as well.

I have a feeling I will get some quality Angry Birds time in on this cruise as well. I have beat all of the levels, now I just need to get three stars so I can get the last few golden eggs.

Maybe if you call and beg they will tell you. But that information is about as solid as the rumors the WDW bus drivers tell you. I think your going to have to wait till you get your key to the world.

Well, as long as we're talking Star Trek, I'm embarassed to admit that when I was a wee little tiny child I was so enamoured with the original Star Trek that I used my father's reel-to-reel tape recorder (one of the earliest consumer models as I recall) to tape record the audio of each episode. Then I would play it back over and over all week long until the next episode! :happytv:

I have faithfully watched all of the series, all of the movies, and have even gone to one Star Trek convention with the ST:TNG stars.

And I loved the newest movie.

Cheers,
Cheryl

That's very industrious of you! I'm impressed!:thumbsup2
I loved the new movie too.

Ryan – Thanks for setting up the FB page. I just sent a request.

Karen – Tell your son some creepy guy in a Tropical Mickey shirt will be looking for him at the terminal. I’ll break into my FE stash and share some candy with him if he’ll let me watch the game with him. I keep booking trips late December into January and every year forget about playoffs. Oh well, my teams are the Chargers and Niners so I don’t have a lot of incentive to watch. I was blessed enough to watch the Pats lose so if I can catch a few minutes of watching the Steelers go down, it will be a great way to start a vacation!

Sue – I mentioned it in the email to you earlier before I read your post. We find out our rotation once we see it on our KTTW cards. If you want a different rotation, you can always have it changed at Wavebands between 1-3. We have done this before when we wanted a specific rotation. The only reason I can think of to want a certain rotation is to line up the nights so that you don’t miss something or if you want to visit your favorite restaurant three times. We used it on the Western Caribbean to be in Lumiere’s for formal night and in Parrot Cay on tropical night before they changed it to pirate night. You can definitely request a specific rotation ahead of time but much like requesting a waterfront table at Blue Bayou, they will note it in your reservation but cannot guarantee it. The honored it twice for us on the Magic and didn’t the other time. That time we were able to change it at Rockin’ Bar D on the first day.

As for us, we are going to shoot for getting to the terminal around 10ish. I would be shocked if they made us wait until 1pm to board.

We finally zipped up three of our bags and weighed them. We kept stuffing every little nook until they both reached 49 pounds (no kidding), one pound under Alaska’s limit and our garment bag, while only 33 pounds, is a few additions away from looking like a large rolled up sleeping bag. I don’t think folding garment bags are supposed to be that shape. I might miss the Promenade meet, the first show and dinner as I’ll be in the deck 6/7 laundry room ironing the whole first day. :laundy:

I have all the batteries charged and electronics packed in a backpack, Emma’s coloring books, Leapster, and toys are stuffed in her carry on, and we have just the last backpack to fill with last minute stuff and things to read on the plane.

The one thing I didn’t think about until Amy pointed it out to me tonight was how we are going to be able to squeeze all of this plus a car seat –AND- four people into my MIL’s Matrix when she picks us up from LAX. I think I’ll throw in a yoga DVD after I hit submit… :crowded:

verizon's ship rates are about the same. Definitely turn off the phone (unless you are me, who has to call into court for telephone hearing on Tuesday a.m.....ARRRRGGGHHHH - how does the judge's assistant KNOW that I am on a trip, this is the second time this has happened).
Oh no! I just got out of Federal Jury duty. I thought it was like regular jury duty. If you go and don't get picked you are good for a year. Nooo, it doesn't work like that. You are on call for 30 days! I kept calling for 3 weeks and then I just told them I leave for a cruise next week so they excused me. Yeah! :worship:

Oh no.. not another Angry birds fan. LOL My husband, kids and some friends love that. I didn't want to even look at it because I know I will get hooked. lol I didn't think about it and deleted that app. to free up space on my phone. My kids about cried.. they said they almost beat the game.. oops!

What am I going to do without my Droid either? Aughh! Sad I know! :rotfl: Did anybody look into the phone/internet plan for Mexico? The last cruise we went on we did the international plan for a week then cancelled.

Alex is Oregon Ducks/Seattle Seahawks fanatic. Seriously fanatic. Has a man cave in his house with a Seahawks shrine. Very cave. Dark Blue Walls, Dark Green Walls (accomplishes his fan-dom of Ducks as well, that way).

I admit it. I have overpacked. In my defense, however, three bags will be empty coming home as this is mini-fam reunion and FE fault. So, I have three bags...none of them are BIG bags. And I still have to hem the guys' suits (in case you didn't see my facebook posting, we are going to be seriously gorgeous family). Family portrait in the works for formal night.

Love Angry Birds; have you tried Cut the Rope?

Sorry I've been slow. That pesky work thing gettin' in the way of my DisBoards. I'm gonna go through withdrawals not logging in to check up on my new family after this cruise is over. Accckkkk!

My daughter Alex (10 on the 27th) is using donhomer2002 at yahoo. She's pretty new to email but seems to be making friends with some of the other girls on the upcoming cruise. I have to remind her to check it, which I find funny for some reason. So if any of you with kids want to email her, that's the address. (My boy, whose world only exists on xbox, did wonder why there are so many girls and fewer boys. I told him he would appreciate that in a few years.)

The kids have never been away from our dog so they're starting to get nervous. We've had him about a year and I hate to admit it, but, well the little guy is lying on me right now. Can't I say he's Denver's half-brother twice removed? Maybe they won't look too long in my carry on!

I'm definitely going to bring bribes for whoever has the laptop for the football game. FE's all around!!!

I finished packing and now have no idea what I forgot that's probably important. Besides the dog.

See ya soon!

Dave

Dave again you have me laughing LOL dont worry about the dog I got an idea ! Inbox me on FB !!!
Is it ok that its past 2 am and I CANT SLEEP ? I am meeting with Wendi and Ashley tomorrow to go over cruise stuff and Im so excited about it !!!!
Jessica I still didnt get anything from amazon should I just bring you the 8 bucks or do you want me to try again :confused3 sorry its a blind thing I guess:cool1:
ok I am starting my traditional  count down to sail ! I am about 2 days late but here goes !!!! its only :banana::banana::banana::banana: 's till we sail !!! WOO HOO !!!
I want to check in EARLY but I dont think Wendi and Ash and Aaron are in any hurry I guess thats ok since we have 7 nights - Last cruise we were the second family onboard - YEP Having Denver pays off lol - We got to walk in with the family of the day and even sat in their waiting area LOL
Does anyone know what time DCL transportation picks people up and from where ? Im going to try to beat that mess to the port - HMMMMmmmm maybe an earlier arrival is a must !
As far as rotations I think its on your KTTW card bottom left corner in letters example APT is anamators parrot tritons I just figured THAT out last cruise I know Im slow LOL you could ask ahead and see but I think dining arrangements as far as I was told are made a few pays prior so maybe call Thurs ? or Fri and see ?????
ok enough for now
anyone who can answer the DCL transportation ? Wins an extra pet from Denver
Oh and Dave tell your kids they can love on Denver if they miss your pup !

(My boy, whose world only exists on xbox, did wonder why there are so many girls and fewer boys. I told him he would appreciate that in a few years.)
Dave, your son & mine will get along wonderfully. He has a PS3 & a DSi (this never seems to leave his sight). I try & explain the girl thing. He solves it by making friends with all of them. We walk through the school grounds & all you hear is "HI Alec" from just about every older girl (they go up to 8th grade) he sees! :scared1: Being that he is not quite 11, he has no clue, thankfully!

OK, you guys are way ahead of the game. I have not really packed. It drives Jeff crazy but I wait until the day before for the majority of packing. I'm still trying to figure out the best way to attack the FE's so I don't have to worry so much about it on board. But knowing myself I will. :confused3

Cari be prepared to be constantly be asked if Denver can be petted. My son will be going through major withdrawals from his dog. I have explained all the rules but sometimes he forgets. I do know I will make sure he doesn't scream Denver's name at all.

I really don't want to work today but I guess I have to. :surfweb:
Later,
Sue
