Disney Wonder Dry Dock Watch - 11/10 Wonder departs on first cruise out of Galveston

Getting super excited for more announcements! We were set to return to the Wonder January 2017 but we changed that cruise to the Disney Fantasy (just a better itinerary for us and a different ship as we did the Wonder last year). But I can't wait to see what unfolds when we cruise her to Alaska August 2017!

I don't even have a Wonder cruise booked, but she was my first ship and I am very excited about her facelift!

I think the duck tail is likely as well. Where was the new BBB cast member working currently? Is she moving into that position from something else or is she a new hire that is already on the Wonder (which would seem odd to me).

.

She was a Fairy Godmother In Training. They offer mini makeovers in the gift shop on the Wonder for $19.95 and it was during that my daughter met her. I am sure she has either already trained in one of the onboard BBB's or will, but based on her expertise I would say she already has! I think it makes sense to have her on the Wonder already, especially since they work multiple positions on the ships.

You can't believe all that the employees tell you. My assistant waiter on this years WBPC told me they were definitely going with Cariocos on the Wonder. This just days before the announcement of the Tianas restaurant. But I do believe they will install the ducktail even without the addition of the slide. It is simply needed for stabilization in the rougher waters of the Caribbean.
so true :D they mentioned the stabilization though so I felt it was pretty solid.

That does make sense! Those 20$ makeovers sound cute.

They actually were really cute! And I liked the price :) I think they were called 'Glitter and Go' but with all Disney experiences they made it really magical. A little hair twist and clip, glitter but light and age appropriate makeup and lip gloss and a gem face sticker. My 7 year old loved it just as much as any of her full Princess makeovers at BBB on the Fantasy! Here is a pic of her getting the makeup done. alaskabbb.JPG

I'd my vote counted if it was between the AquaDunk or no AquaDunk I'd vote no AquaDuck. IMHO it just stand out like a sore thumb on the Magic.

I've only been on the Wonder, and only in Alaska, so I have my biases, but I hope they don't do an Aqua-whatever. I like a clean, classic ship. The upgrade to the Twist 'n' Spout slide is enough, IMHO.

I really hope they put a concierge lounge on the reimagined Wonder, even if it's small. I sprung for my one (and only) big time suite for our November, 2016 cruise, and I'd love to have the whole deal! Of course, never having had a concierge lounge and never expecting to have it in the future, I guess I really don't know what I'm missing :smooth:
I can't wait to eat at Tiana's! I'm expecting a major improvement there :)

I'm wondering if the Wonder (ha) continues to sail to Alaska mostly if they will even bother with the slide? How warm is the weather that people are actually going to use it much?

The "problem" is that Alaska is at best a 6-month season - probably less. What do you do with the ship the rest of the year? You sail it in better climates where slides are more popular.

You'd be amazed at the number of people I saw in the pools last week on my Alaska cruise, even when the temp was in the 50s.

Actually, Alaska was our only cruise that my son used the pool/slide every day. He loved being able to use the pool without tons of people. I was standing on the edge watching him and the lifeguard was laughing, saying that my DS was probably warmer than the two of us because the pool water was nicely heated ;) This was on Tracy Arm day, so it was cold outside, LOL.

HAH

I had that same conversation last year. my son loved that he could go almost nonstop without waiting more than two people in front of him.

Thanks for starting this thread Magdalene! I'm excited to keep up on it, and I really really hope we will be sailing on the Wonder again in 2017, as well as in less than two weeks!

I JUST realized I'll be cruising on the updated ship! Can't wait to see what's new - but it's been so long since I've cruised, it'll ALL seem new!

So, what's a duck tail and whats an aqua duck?

A duck tail is an extension at the back of the ship that helps stabilize it.

The Aquaduck is a water slide on the Dream and Fantasy. The Aquadunk is a water slide on the Magic.

A "duck tail" is added to a ship to increase stabilization. This is the Magic before her duck tail (rear of ship):

And after the duck tail was added:

AquaDuck (on the Dream & Fantasy) on the pool deck a raft ride that covers most of the middle of the upper deck area:

AquaDunk (on the Magic) is a drop tube on the side of the ship:

Oh, thank you! Yes, I see what a PP said about the lines of the ship with the AquaDs.

These ships sure are Pretty, though!!

We leave for Alaska end of August and excited to spend time in less crowded pool!
