I am thinking of going without a car this time, I want to go to Sea World and maybe Aquatica, and maybe the Supertarget. Would it be cheaper to have a taxi ride for these days rather than hiring a car for the holiday which would cost £211? Has anyone done disney without a car? If so how did it go?

i stayed onsite in 2006&2007 without a car and found it fine. Theres a bus that goes from the transportation centre (or downtown disney) to right outside Seaworld - the next stop would prob be right outside aquatica. they are about every 10-15mins and $3 return. - however mears do a return taxi there - ckeck on the website but i think it is about $30 return - i suppose it depends how many of you are travelling. Im not sure about the supermarket - there is one at the 'Crossroads' complex though right outside disney - we get the bus to downtown and walk there - about 10 min walk. x x

on average a taxi ride to seaworld is around $40-$50 plus tip each way, same for aquatica, would think taxi for supertarget on 192 around $30 one way
For the parks would be cheaper booking a return trip with a mears shuttle, this can be done througth bell services at the front of the hotel
Have you not thought of getting a car for a week? we get one for the middle of our holiday, pick up from eather san/dolphin or care care centre(if from here free shuttle to pickup/drop off)

Sounds like a car for a week would be as cheap, its just me but I have driven solo in Florida before and I have my sat nav with the Florida map on it.

I paid about half this for a trip to Sea World from Pop Century last Jan :confused3

We went 15 days without a car - it was no problem as there were loads of taxis to take us to universal and sea world :)

We always hire a car from the time we arrive at the airport and drop it back off at the airport. Yes you can get around Disney without one, but it is far more convenient to have one. Last time my wife went back from Magic Kingdom to Animal Kingdom Lodge, it took 40 minutes and involved a change at Animal Kingdom (all out of peak time, so got on the first bus each time), the journey by car is only 20 minutes. At peak times you may not get on the first bus, so another 10 minute or so wait for the next bus.

Also with a car you can eat off site, which not only saves a small fortune but gives you a wider choice.

If you want to go shopping or to Seaworld, Universal Studios or anywhere like that, a car is handy.

In my humble opinion a car for us pays for itself in the savings on taxis to other parks, shopping and we normally eat off site so that again saves a lot of money.

You might be right,i was just giving a ball park figere based on pop to preimum outlets which was $18 with the tip,its about doubble the distance so i just doubled the price.
As for driving solo the hardest part is from the airport,if getting one mid stay wouldent have that nightmare to contend with
Also we have done without a car plenty of times and agree it not a problem, but we like to have a car part of stay now to be flexable

Like Rob i recommend Mears taxi's or shuttles.

We never drive in Florida, although we do stay offsite+always use the hotels shuttles to get us to the parks,or Mears.x.

Eating off site isn't a problem as I have booked the deluxe dining plan.

We have stayed 2 times at Disney without a car and was perfectly fine, there is so much to do and see that it didn't bother not leaving the area

I'm going this October without a car. Free car hire was included but it's not an option with the insurance, seeing as I'll be under 25. It would cost over £400. Not worth it.

I'm staying onsite at POP and will be taking the buses to the parks and DD and either buses (if we have time) or Mears taxis's for when we go to Seawrold, Universal, shopping, Kissimmee and I-drive.

Mears seem very reasonable. Well, cheap to be honest lol.

I'll be eating onsite mainly too, and it may have been worth getting a car if I wasn't, but I'm not sure.

If all goes to plan I'll never hire a car. Waste of money if you can get buses for free and you don't have to pay extortionate parking fees or gas. More money for shopping! lol

We never use a car, and it's not even an option this time as we're both 18 and can't drive.
When I've been with my parents we use taxis which should be about $30 each way, or the Mears shuttle: you can book 24 hours in advance from your hotel, costing $17pp each way :)

can you tell me where you got the florida map from for sat nav and about how much you paid. we just need the florida not the america one

We used Mears buses which costus $16 return so much cheaper than a taxi, we used them to sea world and Universal studios and found them good. You can ask the Disney concierge desk to book the day before.
