Disney with little legs that can’t go the distance!

Goodmorning! Happy Mother’s Day
We have a trip coming up. The last time we were there our 2 youngest could still justifiably ride in a stroller- they were 4 & 5!
This time they will be 7.5 & 8.5- not exactly stroller worthy!! One of them is not the walking type. He gets petered out pretty easy. We will be there 7 days and will plan mid day breaks and pool time, but I’m not sure he’ll last for a few hours in the parks. Do they make “rideables” for older kids?? Any tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

I have seen plenty of kids in the Disney strollers that age!! While I personally wouldn’t want to deal with it, it may be easier. Honestly, I would just super plan the day. Go early and hit some rides. We have had real good luck getting a TON done early mornings. Strategize so you stay in the same area if the park. For example our last trip at MK we rope dropped fantasy land and then headed to Frontierland and Adventureland. By the time we were done it was lunch time. Sit down for a break and some lunch before heading over to Tomorrowland. We left about 2 and went back for swimming and a break before heading back later in the evening which we only did a few things and watched a parade or something. My teens run from one side to the next to get in the big coasters, but nope, not me!!! I say just slow it down and take plenty of breaks. Make sure you also take things like the train in MK (if open) or boat in Epcot to get across the lake

You could get a stroller board and attach it to a stroller. Ours holds up to 55 lbs but other brands have up to 66 lbs capacity. Then you can use the front stroller to hold a backpack and it is a lot more maneuverable than a rental (we attach ours to a Bob jogging stroller).

It's like a little skateboard that clips onto the back of a stroller so they can just hang onto the stroller and ride...kinda like making any stroller into a sit and stand. I saw someone at the pediatrician's office with it, and then just had to seek out one for us since double strollers are pretty cumbersome. We have the Englacha brand, but it looks like the Lascal Buggy Board Maxi has the highest weight capacity. You can even get a seat to attach onto it. We got our Junior X Rider seat and board on FB Marketplace for $25 and we get so many compliments on it. The kids argue over who gets to sit in the big kid seat versus the front stroller seat.

My husband and I were just there in April and we saw people with wagons. I didn’t think Disney allowed this, did they change the rules?

I have heard of a couple that have gotten to use wagon for medical reasons that have been allowed but as far as I know it has not changed

Over The course of a week, we probably saw 7 different families with wagons and or Keens. We also saw a family in line for the safari ride that had a rolling cooler. We were pretty shocked as we thought Disney was really strict on these types of things. A wagon would be a great solution for our older boys, but we don’t have a medical reason to need one.

We used a single stroller on our last trip when the kids were 9 and 6. They took turns and it definitely got plenty of use, especially as the day went on. I like the idea of renting the Disney stroller partway through the day if you need it. Normally I don’t see the point of those since you can’t take them back to the hotels, but at that age it would work okay.

I have seen many kids that age in strollers! I have a 2 and 7 year old. I bet my 7 year old will still be riding co-pilot with her younger sister this year!

You know your children best. If you believe they need a stroller and you want to get one to avoid a problem, get one. The peace of mind may be worth it to you alone. My experience has been that kids are fine to go without one by the time they are kindergarten age. While I don't think you need it with children that age unless there are special needs or considerations, you may want it and that's ok too. Will they get tired? Possibly. Even adults drag at the end of a long day sometimes. Do what feels like the right choice to you.

It's your family's vacation! The ultimate goal is for everyone to have a great time.
I think you can push a little( meaning have your son do a bit more than he might like) and then also offer rest periods. If a stroller saves the day, go for it!

We used the hard plastic Disney stroller, most of the time it held out heavy backpack full of snacks. It was perfect for holder kids because it's well made easy to get in and out of. The best part is you can get it if you need it at anytime of the day.

Pushing a 7 year old in a stroller sounds exhausting. Can you work on getting his stamina up before the trip? Maybe some visits to the zoo or other local places where he can walk and see how he does? Not saying you shouldn't get a stroller if you think you need it, but really by that age I would think most kids should be able to walk all day as long as you're taking some breaks.

This is exactly what I was thinking. Rather than renting a stroller, which we’ve done before, I was thinking about just grabbing one of the Disney strollers towards the end of the day if we need it. They look like they could hold an older child better. Thanks for the tip!

His low stamina is due to earlier developmental delays. His younger brother has all the stamina in the world and I have no doubt will be able to get through a long day at Disney just fine. I think we may look into the option of renting a Disney stroller towards the end of the day if we happen to need it.
