We leave next month for our first trip with our newest edition. :woohoo: We will be there Dec. 20-26 (and he turns 7 months on Dec. 31st.) I realize that the trip will be much different and that we will have a blast, but I have a few questions for some of you Disney w/ kids Veterans out there!

1. Evan normally naps 2-3 times during the day...should we just play it by ear and see if he will nap in his stroller (which we are bringing with us?)

2. His normal nighttime routine is bath (around 6:45,) bottle (around 7:00,) and bed (around 7:15.) We have the Candlelight Processional booked for 6:45 and the Liberty Tree booked for 6:15 on another night. What are your experiences with how your child stays on the normal routine? Normally, if we are at home, it is almost like clockwork with his schedule. However, if we go to our neighbor's house (with 3 kids and a much louder, active environment) his routine is pushed back 30 minutes or so. Can we expect a little bit of the same with this?

3. Anything else anyone would like to add is appreciated!

Thanks,

Scott :)

My DD is also like clockwork on her routine. We went when she was 8 wks and 22 mths.

1. Naps - a couple of times she napped in her stroller - I found a nice quiet spot and sat there. Other times we went back to the room. I found if I wanted to stay out later (till 8 mind you), I tried to get back to the room for a better nap. Be warned, your room may not be cleaned if you go back at noon. (I'm going to ask in Jan. when we go if we can get it cleaned earlier). If napping in stroller, I brought along a beach towel to cover up with, so she couldn't look out and it was a little darker in there.

2. Routine - I found the she was ok later some nights. Our latest night was Spectro (parade at 9) and then Epcot until a little after 8. She was okay while we were doing stuff, I was just prepared for her to crash and start acting up because she was tired. She was such a good girl.

3. Advice - when you stay out late - bring his jammies and bottle so you can put him down in the stroller on the walk back. That way when you get back to the room he can go right to bed. You'll probably want to skip bath on those late nights.

Follow his lead - don't try to have a rigid schedule. You will have so much fun watching him.

Also - one thing that is fun to do is to have a silhoutte of him made by the paper cutting people in MK. They are cheap - I think $13 for 2 and then the frames are only $6 each (I think that is around the right price). It was a great gift for our families - I got a total of 4 made. I cried when I saw my DD - it was so precious. And, if they can do a 2 yr old, they should be able to do a 7 mth old.

I brought my DS at 9 mos for a boys only trip (the wife thinks I'm crazy). I can say that he definately was off schedule a bit, probably because of the stimulation of the sights and sounds.

A few things that I learned on the first trip.

1. Illuminations at Epcot is LOUD. For a child its real loud.

2. Bring disposable bibs. They're awesome.

3. Ditto for those baby washcloths with the soap already in them! Made bath time a snap.

4. Make sure you bring a stroller, and make sure it can fold down flat (or almost flat) so naptime is comfy.

5. Bring a raincover for the stroller.

6. Make sure you pack enough items in the diaper bag in case you can't make it back to the hotel room quickly (i.e. extra diapers, set of clothes if they get dirty, extra food).

7. There are awesome baby centers in each park in case you need a break. They have supplies, and even cribs. They are cool and quiet too.

8. Instead of watching the parade, watch your son watching the parade. Its these moments that you'll remember most. Enjoy.

p.s. Just got back from a trip in September and had the sillouettes done in France (they do it in Liberty Square too). My mom still has mine from when I was a 4/5 yo at WDW so I had to do it.

Thanks for your reply!

Yeah, we weren't planning on seeing Illuminations. What would you suggest about Fantasmic and/or Wishes?

2. Bring disposable bibs. They're awesome.

How are these at absorbing slobber. We have a teething baby on our hands! :)

3. Ditto for those baby washcloths with the soap already in them! Made bath time a snap.

Got them ready to go!

4. Make sure you bring a stroller, and make sure it can fold down flat (or almost flat) so naptime is comfy.

We are bringing our stroller and we think he likes it. It does go down in the back for him to nap.

5. Bring a raincover for the stroller.

Just ordered one about 2 minutes ago!

6. Make sure you pack enough items in the diaper bag in case you can't make it back to the hotel room quickly (i.e. extra diapers, set of clothes if they get dirty, extra food).

So, load up the diaper bag? :)

Already know where they are!! :)

8. Instead of watching the parade, watch your son watching the parade. Its these moments that you'll remember most. Enjoy.

This is what we are looking forward to the most. We are also looking forward to him seeing the characters!

Thanks again!

Scott

I brought my DS to Fantasmic with no issues. There are a few fireworks and fire here, but "loud pops" is how I would describe them. You can feel the heat of the fire on the lake sometimes but nothing to worry about there either. As your DS gets older, he may find some of the action scary, but not for this trip. For Wishes I think the fireworks are high up enough. I think it was just the fact that the fireworks and were so much lower and closer at Epcot

They have a plastic back but they're made mostly for feeding time (and even have a fold out to catch the runaway food!). I'd still use them for feeding time, but for non-eating times with a teether, you may want to go with the conventional bib. :)

So, load up the diaper bag? :)

YUP. You don't have to go crazy, but I brought 2 of everything (except diapers of course. That wouldn't have cut it:lmao: )

Have a blast! :thumbsup2

And you sound like a good candidate for the Dis Dads Club. Come on over!!
