Disney will post Alligator warning signs and fences

I agree. People are posting their pictures online showing how many people actually went into that lagoon. Was obviously not discouraged with dangers made aware. Look how many kids were in the lagoon. View attachment 176045

This isn't SEVEN SEAS LAGOON, this is the 'lake' that is near Epcot, this water is connected to Epcot's central lagoon. These people are on the shore of Beach Club, this water is connecting boats leaving Epcot's International Gateway to Hollywood Studios, Swan and Dolphin, Yacht and Beach Club and Boardwalk. See the raised bridge in the back, that is the bridge from Boardwalk that goes towards International Gateway.

No I don't have kids. I'm 18 I understand being a kid as I was once one. I liked playing in sand myself as a kid. However my point is putting up a alligator warning sign along the water like the no swimming sign is that going to prevent kids from playing on the beach? No I don't think so.

The difference here is that there is no debate if a parent lets a child near water when an alligator warning sign is present. The parent is clearly acting neglently.

So sad that they didn't have signs like this before. I know life is many times coulda, shoulda, woulda....but this story is heartbreaking, because it was so preventable. I hope it never, ever comes out disney actively made a decision to go with no swimming vs beware of gators to make guests feel warm and fuzzy and not hurt their bottom line as has been suggested. I hope they just didn't realize how serious the gator situation was.

Disney WILL put up more clear signs of the gator danger.
Disney WILL have a more robust gator removal program.
Disney WILL do these things because they will want to and they have no other choice.

Disney SHOULD have had clear warning signs about the gator danger from the beginning.
Disney SHOULDN'T have made cuts to their gator removal program this year in an effort to save money.
Disney will NOW do these things not because they want to, but because they have to.

Disney cut their gator removal program? Where did you hear this?

This is BC/YC beach.

Frankly what disturbs me the most is that all of these children's parents allowed them to play in this disgusting water. Especially since there's a perfectly awesome safe pool right behind them.
Especially at the BC they have the sand bottom pool. You can play in the sand and build sand castles with clean water.

Exactly. As I pointed out this is not Seven Seas Lagoon like the original poster had assumed.

The nicest pool at Disney is right there at BC/YC, and these people would rather go in the lake water...

Unless these people aren't registered guests, and are going into the water because they don't have access to Storm Along Bay??

What about tom sawyers island? Is that just a haven for snakes and other things like alligators? It is a favorite of my son. We are going in August. We make sure they stay on the paths.
We have been to Disney World over 20 times and never gave any thought to alligators being on property until last July when we saw one IN Magic Kingdom right by the pathway near the Tom Sawyer Island dock (see the red dot on the map). It was 4 feet long, I would estimate. The CM we pointed it out to didn't seem to care in the slightest! That was our wake-up call. But prior to that I honestly never would have expected they were on property. Call us naive but the thought never crossed our minds.

I'm sorry if it came off like I was correcting you. I meant to say you're absolutely correct.

Lake water would be ok- I swim in plenty of lakes in NJ, PA and ME. The waters in Disney are another kind of disgusting. Polluted from all the boat traffic, parasite and bacteria infested. There's a reason why River Country was shut down many years ago. Those waters are not safe to swim or play in simply because of health hazards.

So would that potentially have gators in it too?

I wonder if at Aulani they will put a fence up at the ocean and a sign listing all the potential dangerous creatures....

Hawaii quite often posts signs that are permanent in some locations and temporary in others warning of currents, jellyfish, recent shark attacks, dangerous surf etc... Posting signs to keep people safe is actually quite common.

I doubt they'd put a fence up to keep people away from the ocean, that makes no sense and isn't even in the same ballpark as the disney world beach situation.

If it is a body of water, natural or man-made, it is safe to assume there's wildlife in it. After all this is Florida.

In my years of visiting I've seen gators, turtles, snakes, deer, bunnies, ducks, raccoons, rats, bugs, and a skunk. Except for the gators it's just like being home in NY.
