Disney Weight Loss

I dont like how you stated that. Just because your 160+ pounds as a teen doesnt mean your overwight.

I weigh 165 lbs but my weight is considered healthy because I'm 5'10

My bad. I probably should have said a height, since there are people who are over 5'9" and weigh around 160.

so what shall i eat and how much excersise!?!?!?!?!?!

I'd say eat 1500-1700 calories a day. Have 3 300-400 calorie meals, then you can have another 300-500 calories for snacks or a speical treat every now and then

Id make sure you walk at least 3 times a week for at least a meal. Id also try to do some sort of ab exercise every night

This is probably a good plan. It'd be easier if we knew your weight/height so we can give a more accurate amount of calories.

Id also try to do some sort of ab exercise every night

This is a no-no. Doing one every night wouldn't allow for your muscles to develop. Only do abs 3 times a week and never do them in back-to-back days.

Ok, sorry but this is what works for me. My abs are a lot more devoped by doing them every night. Everyone has a different body and its different for boys and girls

Yes, everyone is different, however you'll hit a plateau by doing them every night eventually. Once your muscles get to a certain point, they take longer to develop. By doing them every night, once they start getting more fit, they won't develop as quick by doing them every night as opposed to doing them 3x a week. I'll go ahead and post from actual body builders who also agree that working a muscle every day isn't good for development.

About that comment about wearing a bikini in December, thats soo not true! I'm from NC and we were down in Disney in January (ts colder in JAN then in DEC) and i wore a bikini and thought the water felt GREAT!

I cant help much about the weight thing, I'm naturally skinny... and weigh less than 90 pounds at my age. And dont tell me thats "unhealthy" because its not.

And about eating, you should stick with 3 meals a day, just make sure they are on the small side. I'd suggest veggies and wheat products. But you NEED meat, so dont stop eating it! That's your main source of protein and you NEED it! Plus, dont stop drinking milk, people say if u stop drinking milk you'll loose a lot of weight because it has a lot of fat in it, just drink skim milk, thats what i drink, it tastes more watery (i like that) and its healthier for you.

I'd just like to expand on this.. fat doesn't make you fat. Too many calories makes you fat.

:happytv:
Totally, but fat has an impact on your health, but what you said is 100% true!

Getting the right amount of healthy fat can have a completely positive affect on your health. Stuff like flax seed, extra virgin olive oil, fish, ect. are all healthy fats that you should be taking in.

That's totally unhealthy, you should be eating more than just that.

I don't know why you're being so unsupportive.. if she works hard enough she can do it.

Anyways.... try not to eat so much unhealthy food, replace it with better things.
And don't do the same exercises every day, do cardio twice a week, lower body one day, upper body another day, then core, have one day to rest, and then go for a run or something the next day.
And drink a LOT of water.
You might also want to get some books or dvds with workouts.

I didnt mean to come off unsuportive at all. I was just poiting out its gunna be freezing

You know what you could do?

My bio teacher said that it is actually better for you to eat more than 3 meals a day. If you eat about 5 SMALLER meals a day, then your body won't have as much extra stuff left over in it's system to store as fat. Also, you won't be tempted as much to snack on junk throughout the day. So, you could try doing that and see how it works for you!

Good Luck!

Yeah, this is totally true! My science teacher said the same thing!:thumbsup2

Haha, it's not too difficult. You have to get your EFA's in [essential fatty acids] or you're screwed.

Milk is actually very good for your metabolism. After months of drinking 95% of my beverages milk, my metabolism has generously sped up. It was even whole milk, which generally isn't as healthy as skim or 1%! I actually like them all so it's no big deal to me. I've only gained 7 pounds in 12 months, which was most recently due to HORRIBLE eating around the holidays. :headache:

So yeah, don't cut out milk.

100% true :]

I thought I'd give this a bump.. I'd like to see if anyone's made any progress. I'm down to about 13% body fat now. I'm attempting to get down to about 10% by mid-June, but it's going to be a little difficult.

Also, I'm about to make a huge post on a new thing I'm starting tomorrow.. It'll settle the 6 meals vs. doesn't matter debate.

Alright, so tomorrow I'll be starting what is a 18/6 Intermittent Fasting diet. I recently spoke via an online forum to Martin Berkhan, who is currently writing a book with Lyle McDonald [one of the top nutritionist in the U.S.], about the idea of fasting. The idea behind it is, you go 16 hours without eating, and then for the next six hours you intake all of your daily calories, before going back into the 18 hour fast again. The 18 hours is the minimum you should be in a fasted state. You can be in a fasted state for as long as you like, however he recommends somewhere between 16 and 20. For convenience, I'll stick go with an 18 hour fast. Also, zero calorie drinks such as water, tea, coffee, diet sodas, ect. are permitted during the fast, as they only have indirect effects on the metabolism.

There are many advantages that were seen with fasting test on animals. Some are:
- Reduced oxidative stress
- Made the animals more resistant to acute stress in general
- Reduced blood pressure
- Reduced blood sugar
- Improved insulin sensitivity
- Reduced the incidence of cancer, diabetes, and heart disease
- Improved cognitive ability

Also, this has not been recorded with other animals, but the life expectancy of religions that fast regularly compared to others in the same area that don't is 20-30% higher.

Some things may stick out to you.. Reduced chance of cancer, diabetes, and heart disease are the main ones. Improved cognitive ability is very important to HS'ers, especially since almost all of us sit in a classroom for 6-7 hours a day. Poor insulin sensitivity has been linked to heart disease. For me, this seemed like a great way to improve one area I'm concerned about; my risk for diabetes. My family has a history of it, so I'm trying to reduce the amount of insulin released in my body at given times.

Now that we know the structure of the diet and some advantages, I'll explain what I'm going to do. For the next final two weeks of school I'll be attempting this "lifestyle." I'm going to have only one controlled variable, which is protein intake. I'll be consuming my target body-weight by mid-June [150 pounds] in protein each day. That's about 600 calories from protein each day. On days I do not work out, I'll be consuming 1500 hundred calories [10 x target body weight]. On days I do one of cardio or weight lifting, I'll be eating 1650 calories [11 x target body weight]. On days I do both cardio and lifting, I'll be consuming 1800 calories [12 x target body weight]. Carbs and fat will fill in the other portion of my calories. However, I will not care how much of each I take in, as long as I do not exceed my calories each day. I will not be weight lifting the second week, since I will be taking a week off for recovery and finals. However, I'll do some cardio. For the first week, since I lift/cardio from 3-4:30, I'll break my fast at around 2:30. I'll eat a high carb/high protein meal before I workout. And my workout, I'll consume the rest of my calories. Usually my last meal on a normal day is around 8:30, so I'll probably have a six hour eating window.

Here's the plan to get me started in the diet:
- Wake-up and have a normal breakfast
- I will not eat lunch
- From 2:30-8:30 I'll consume all my 1800 calories, minus the ones eaten during breakfast
- At 8:30, I'll begin the fast until 2:30 the next day

What I'm looking for out of this:
- How will my body react to the shock of not eating six small meals a day?
- Will my awareness stay up to par during the fasting period?
- Is six meals a day really necessary to keep your metabolism at an elevated state?
- Is the convenience of basically stuffing my face for six hours better than that of eating small meals?

And finally, I'll post each day how I feel, what I ate during my fast and how it affects my workouts.

thats true thats why starving yourself doesn't work because if your body is starving then every little bit of food it gets it's going to hold onto, so you will actually gain weight

so it is better to eat throughout the day so your body never has to go into that starvation mode, as long as its the right kind of foods :thumbsup2

i'm trying to lose weight for my disney trip too i only have until august though...so i'm starting now, it's been going pretty well so far :goodvibes
