Disney weddings tonight-$70,000!!!!!!

the negative comments seem like sour grapes to me and not the eating kind.

Nah, I think it's more along the lines of priorities. I have felt the same way about excessive weddings my entire life, through the planning of my own and others. It has NOTHING to do with sour grapes, as my own wedding was lovely and I wouldn't have changed a thing (except maybe the date...four days after 9/11 was a little stressful).

There's no way I could have had all that food and not felt a little guilty and wasteful. There's no way I would ever have selected that option even if I could have. I would put the money into a house, or paying off my loans or something else.

And while the Cinderella carriage was a nice touch, my dad and I would have been struggling not to laugh our heads off. There comes a point when you just have to say,"Oh, please!" whilst rolling your eyes. That was the point.

Sometimes opinions are just opinions. She had the wedding she wanted...great! I thought it was ridiculous and somewhat tacky.

The whole dinner thing made me wonder if Disney doesn't give the couple the option of allowing their guests to choose in advance which of the 3 meals they might want, or if this is just a way to make more money. We had an option of chicken, fish or beef at the wedding we went to over the weekend.... but we had to decide in advance what we wanted and sent it back on the response card.

Either Disney mustn't allow this, or the bride was too lazy to tally up what people selected.

I too almost could not get over the girl with the one sleeved wedding gown and her wedding cost. Let's just say that my Disney wedding didn't even come remotely CLOSE in the slightest way to costing that kind of money. My parents would have laughed me out of town if I had asked for that much for a wedding (plus DH and I paid for part of our wedding as well).

You asked what must a $300,000 wedding look like. Probably like the custom orange wedding. Such excess!!! A reception AND a "Pre"-reception (with "action station"). A humongous cake AND individual cakes. TWO entrees on each plate.

I "know" the orange wedding bride through an Internet group for Disney brides. Though I certainly don't know her total event cost, she did not spend $300,000. Also, she didn't pay for all that cake--Disney gave her a bunch of extra cake (like the HUGE cake that they cut) since they were on the show. Plus, a pre-reception is a standard part of a Disney wedding. They pretty much make you have them so they have time to set up for your reception. Also, the dual plate is not that much more expensive than a single item plated dinner. It's MUCH less than the way the other bride did it with 3 choices for each guest. The orange wedding bride seems very down to earth from my interactions with her on the Disney weddings discussion board. Just my 2 cents. :)

Thanks, that's good to know :)
I'm glad they got something for being on the show. I also wondered if the "one-sleeve" couple had actually won a Disney dream wedding. I thought I remembered seeing a contest like that, and it seems like the kind of thing that could happen, give someone a dream wedding and then film it.

No offense to Disney , but if I had $300,000 to blow on a wedding, I'd have it at a real castle.
Oh yes...I so agree.

I didn't see this but I wonder where they had the reception? I can easily imagine giving guests their choice of meals...whatever isn't used can be frozen and then used in the restaurant where the reception was held or shipped off to the MANY other WDW restaurants that could easily use the foodstuffs within the next following days...so I don't see the big deal. Or did I miss something?

All I know is it was a great show!! I can't wait to see it again...princess:

It WAS a great show that I'd watch again. DH, too. He gets so inspired by food!

As for me, the baking was like sculpting....so artistic! I hated to see them cut those great cakes.

I posted on another thread somewhere about the carriage ride. Looks like such a lovely idea, but the actual ride in it is so short. You go from the GF hotel to the pavillion? I can WALK that in less than 5 minutes! For $2,500, I wanna ride that sucker up and down the Beeline Expressway! :teeth: I can see me waving now.:wave2: LOL

Let me just preface this by saying, I haven't seen this show yet, but I plan on setting my Tivo tonight for it! :)

Now - I know the place that DH and I had our wedding reception at gave us the option of allowing our guests to choose their meal from our 3 choices when they sat down...to the tune of $18 extra per person. Um...no...we had our guests choose ahead of time...it's the norm these days and most people don't think it to be rude. So you're not paying for 3 different plated meals individually per person...you are payign for the 'option' of the chef pulling each meal together - on demand. (think - most of the side dishes are the same - just switch out the meat/fish/chicken)

I don't know if it's an option or not with Disney...but I do know that this option is available at most places...at a hefty price.

I really hope to catch this show again so DH can watch. I almost wanted to cry when that one couple got engaged at Victoria and Albert's  ... so romantic.

Personally, I thought the "orange" wedding was so cool. I loved how the theme was carried out to the nth degree. Those individual cakes were just about the neatest thing I've seen for a wedding. It did seem like a lot of cake for there to be a regular cake in addition to those, though. But so what? I'm sure the guest could take the individual cakes home with them.

The fantasy wedding was too over the top for me. It was just too cutesy and excessive. You have to start wondering when the bride seems much more into the "wedding" than the "marriage".

I would love to do a vow renewal at Disney someday. I'm sure it would be closer to the $3000 than $300,000 but I'm sure the smaller scale ceremonies are beautiful too.

Edited to add: I agree about that dress! Very strange.

I thought the girl was to nervous, she had to know what was going on. He didn't even say anything, and she had her hand up in his face for him to put the ring on.

I enjoyed the show.

I am a little amazed at this discussion. Based on the LIMITED info you got from a TV show people have decided that the brides were "spoiled" and/or "brats". Wonder what people would think of you on TV?

On my keys to the Kingdom Tour a few years ago our guide told of a very wealty Disney fan who rented out the park for his engagement. He had the carraige and the whole nine yards. If you can afford it, why not? I don't live in a glass house and figure it's not my place to judge how you spend your money.

Did any of you watch Paula Deen's wedding show before the Disney show? That wasn't cheap either. Cheap weddings can be just as much fun, but are not near as good TV.

you know, speaking as a disney bride, you can have an awesome disney wedding that looks $$$$$$$ without spending as much money as you all are talking about. our wedding cost less than it would have if we had had it here in DC.

I wish you all would be a little more cautious about what you say about the people on the show. Some of them could be lurking, and I wouldn't want to be the person that reads how two hundred people that don't even know me think i'm a 'brat' or 'a fat couple', or how ugly my wedding dress was, or any of the other comments that were made. And I have a fairly good feeling that some of the people that were on the show DO have user accounts at the disboards.

As for the show I think it was beautiful. Both of the large weddings were beautiful, and if I had the money and I was getting married I'd most likely do it. The smaller ceremonies were really nice also! What a nice way to share your wedding with your closest family and friends.

tricia.

DS9 wants to get married at the GF. We all loved the show. I'm a sucker for weddings. The more elaborate the wedding the better.

I thought the fantasy bride seemed like a sweet girl that wanted the Disney wedding of her dreams. If you can afford it.........go for it. Life is too short!

Weddings like this employ lots of people and keep our economy going.:)

I only watched the last half of the show, I taped it later will watch tonite.

I'll I know is WOW. I think that it would be so cool to able to do that. What lucky couples.

The 3 meal thing bothered me I think that maybe they could have asked people before, maybe when they checked in or a phone call. I bit tacky maybe, but did you know that wedding response cards are also a no-no. They say that people should send a note on their own to whether or not they attending.

I didn't see the show but I am dying to see this dress...anyone know if there's anywhere on the net to see a still pic?

I definitely agree it's a matter of priorties.

Also I think it has to do with what you can afford. If this couple has to live in near poverty to do this or mortgage her parents home, then yes it's too much and not necessary. However if they can afford it or the parents can, I am not going to critize them for giving this to them.

I have a friend who is one of 3 daughters. Her parents will spend at least that much or more for 3 girls. This girl might have been their only child.

I guess the point I was trying to make and maybe sour grapes is not the right term, is that just because you would not do this, does not mean she is a spoiled brat for having a $70,000 wedding.

I would be interested in seeing the $300,000 version. I would imagine that cost includes accommidations for all the guests and airfare there.
