Hi everyone,

My fiance and I are trying to figure out dates that would work and we are pretty restricted with school and work. How is August for a wedding? Is it excruitiatingly hot? Super busy? Any details would be so helpful as we've never been down there for the beginning of August.

Thank you :)

I live in SW FL and August is the hottest month of the year by far. It is really, really hot! It tends to be pretty crowded too because of kids on summer vacation. I think that you could make it work if you had an indoor ceremony and reception, then you'd just be going from air conditioned space to air conditioned space. In August it stays hot all day and night too, even @ 6 am you wake up to heat and humidity. If it has to be summer I'd opt for late August because many of the FL schools start up again around the 20th so you might get smaller crowds in the parks. If it doesn't have to be summer then I'd opt for winter vacation or spring break, you'll still deal with the crowds but the weather is a lot nicer and makes the long waits bearable.

We went to Disney at the end of august/early september and it is really hot. Like it can exhaust you by noon hot if you aren't getting in enough fluids. DF almost passed out at Animal Kingdom at about 10 AM!

That being said, end of August isn't very crowded in the parks. We pretty much walked onto most of the attractions with hardly any waiting. If you can swing that time of year with indoor venues for you and your guests sake, it could be a not too bad time to vacation there. Just drink lots of water and gatorade to stay hydrated and up to the heat.

I was at WDW last summer in early August because my mom had a conference there, and after that trip I told myself I would never go in August ever again... Funnily enough I'm going there this summer at the same time for another conference, this time one that I'm attending. Granted, when we went last summer I was recovering from an illness that I'd had since June, so I wasn't completely on my game, but it was SUPER hot and SUPER crowded :scared1:. I do okay in the heat and am pretty good about crowds most days but it was just WAYY too much for me. However, some people I've talked to say that they love it there that time of year, so it just depends on your tolerance levels. I'm not sure how it would be for a wedding, but it would definitely be too hot to do anything outside during the day. I'm giving it one more chance this year before I make my final decision, hopefully this summer will be a better experience!

We got married last August and having gone before in June many times, it is really not drastically hotter. I think FL in the summer is just going to be hot. The most important thing is proper planning. We usually go to the parks in the morning and take afternoon breaks. This way you can cool off during the hottest part of the day. I also always have the misting fan with me, makes a huge difference.

For the wedding, we kept the ceremony and reception indoors. Limited outdoor photos with family / Bridal Party. We did most of the outdoor photos with just us. We made sure we provided transportation for our guests so they wouldn't have to walk far in the heat. The one downside is my hair didn't really last, but my hair doesn't hold a curl that well anyway so there wasn't much hope there.

We had a wonderful day and it was definitely worth it to have the wedding in August and have our guests be able to attend.

i think it depends on what your body is used to.

I am from minnesota and i don't tolerate the heat very well, especially if it's a quick and drastic change... so DF and I actually decided to move our wedding back to make sure we are actually comfortable and happy on our trip.

I would never dream of going to Florida in June, July, or August. no no no...

We are planning our wedding for August 22nd next year at the Yacht club. Our last couple of trips have been at the same time of year - due to DDs school holidays - its hot but we learn to aclimatise to it and after a few days you dont notice it quite so much. We will be in Florida for two full weeks before our wedding (and a week after) so I hope come the wedding day we will just take it in our stride.

Thanks everyone for all the responses. I kind of expected it would be scorching. Hopefully, if we have to do it then, we'll figure out a way to keep people as cool as possible.

I know one of you said that even early in the morning it is really hot, is this even later at night too? Like will a dessert party be a bad choice?

As long as most of your events are indoors it will be fine. There are lots of nice places at Disney to take pictures indoors. When it was just Dh and I taking pics outside, I really didn't find it to be that bad. You're so excited and happy that day you barely notice the heat. :goodvibes

It can be hot the entire day. When we were there, there were days where it cooled off in the evening...our wedding day was not one of them. But in spite of that I would still definitely do the dessert party, it's such a wow factor for your guests and they aren't out there that long. No one looked uncomfortable and everyone told us how much they enjoyed it. I would just consider the heat with your food choices. Pick things that won't melt easily, be sure to have cool drinks available. Maybe iced coffee or iced tea would be nice. I would actually shy away from ice cream because that could melt and be messy. You'd be fine with cookies, tirimisu, tarts / pastries, mickey crispies, that sort of thing.

Unfortunately it stays hot all day and night (even up through midnight it can feel like 90 degrees with the humidity). I agree that a dessert party with anything meltable would be a bad idea.
