We are going to WDW in 12 days. My wife and I would like to take our kids to a water park for a day. Which park, Blizzard Beach or Typhoon Lagoon, is better for younger children? Our 5 year old son is a fish, but our 3 year old daughter is still a little aprehensive around water. Does one park have a bigger children's area than the other? Is there enough to keep my 3 year old busy for a few hours? What do you think?

Most people feel that Blizzard Beach is better for smaller children. They have a great family raft ride, and an entire area devoted to kids. The large pool isn't a deep or choppy.

That's so funny, because when I researched this same subject 2 years ago, I was told Typhoon Lagoon because they have much more shade. We loved Typhoon lagoon. They have a section for the little ones too. It was great. We spent an entire day there with my then 2 year old and my 3 month old. My 2 year old was going down a raft by himself in the kiddie section.

We did stake out a set of table and chairs under a hut thank goodness.

I've got to agree with Lizzie on this one. I think TL is a lot more shaded then BB. I love both, but we found TL a little more laid back and easy to do with a toddler, where BB was more on the wild side, better slides and such. Plus we liked the wave pool at TL better, they even have a wading area that fills with little waves for the tots.

We went to both TL and BB last summer with our then 8 and 2 year olds. They both preferred BB.

I think they are both a lot of fun for young kids and you can't go wrong with either :).

We did both with a 2,8,10 and the problem with BB was there was no real area to set up and be together they were running around to slides and I was stuck in baby land at TL we set up near the wave pool there is a low side we were near baby land and could also hook up with family via the lazy river thing found it much easier.

I've been to both and have to say I and my 4YO loved the kiddie area at TL better. They even have these little miniature water slides that are built into the ground and go like 2 miles an hour just for the little ones!!! My DS loved it!!!!

The only advantage for kids this young that BB has over TL is the family raft ride is MUCH better at BB. That's it IMHO.

Unfortunately, gomudhens , the question may be a moot point. If you look at the park hours posted for March at Disneys web site - March Park Hours - you will se that Blizzard Beach will not open till the 16th of the month. Unless your stay extends after that date , Typhoon Lagoon it is ....

gomudhens,

If BB is going to be open when you are there, i suggest this park for the entertainment value.
Although, i agree with some of the other comments about the better shade at TL.
Both parks are very good though (and have children's area's) so just HAVE FUN

We took our 7 m. old dd to TL & she loved it! It is such a relaxing place. She did wear herself out though, she even fell asleep in my arms while we were sitting in the shallow end of the wave pool! The whole day was great!! ;)

Thanks so much to all of you for your input. After checking the Disney Web Site, it appears that ScottOKW2K is correct--Blizzard Beach doesn't open until March 16th and we'll be long gone by then. Too bad for us. But that makes my decision much easier! Thanks again!

I thought BB was supposed to open on march 1. Oh well! They must have changed it when they cut back the hours not long ago. I guess we'll be enjoying typhoon lagoon instead! I had heard that the really little kids (DS is 2) don't like the squirting stuff at TL.

I just checked my notes & BB was originally scheduled to open on 3/2. Now I have to do more research!

I'd suggest making room in your schedule for both Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach. Small children are likely to enjoy the water parks much more than the big parks. The kids can be more active, spend less time waiting in line -- they're going to be a huge hit with your small kiddos.
