Disney vloggers on Lighthouse Point

And all those shades can be taken down pretty easily. We know when a hurricane is coming.

Yes wider is more expensive, but 10 more feet in width would have little to no ecological impact, they would have 1 more piling per section and you could get carts or whatever down in both directions. Concrete benches are easy, cheap and can withstand the weather. While not comfortable to sit and stay on all day, they would be more than enough for someone to stop and rest.

I agree there just seems to be way to many "we did not think of that" issues going on. Maybe it is like the Wish, someone that has never been to an island designed it..... :)

Water and beach beautiful, but I also agree, i don't really want one of the chairs behind the sand dunes. Again I understand erosion, but let me lay here and cook while I cant see the ocean, and probably can't get much of the breeze either.

Just from previews, I can take a pass on the new destination overpricing and wait until it comes down considerably.

It's Wish 2.0 - welcome back to all the people that formed their opinion of that ship based on the reviews/opinions of other people.

I've never based my own thoughts off of someone else's opinion and experience and don't plan to do so now. We sailed the Wish its inaugural season and enjoyed it.

We visit Lookout Cay in August and I'll form my own opinion then. I'm certainly not calling anything a fail after one day and one load of vloggers.

If the benches are bolted down and they use removable canvasses to provide the shade, it could definitely be done. The support poles wouldn't pose much of a danger in high winds. I concur that the length and width of the pier is due to environmental concerns, but I think they could at least add shade without causing more problems.

Totally agree.
I worked in architecture here in Texas for 42+ years. During that time, we designed hundreds of homes down on the Texas Coast, so not exactly unaffected by major hurricanes over the years. Required minimum 6” studs on all exterior walls, or as required and paid for by client, interior walls, as well. No windows to be mulled together, but at least 6” of lumber between them. Also, all doors are required to be hinged out, so as to be less likely to be blown in, etc.
Ultimately, doesn’t matter, if a Cat 4 or 5 rolls through…you’re non-mulled windows, 6” studs, etc. are all gone anyway.
Again, bottom line, do it right Disney, or don’t do it at all.

We will be there on Saturday and the flies are grossing me out so much I gag thinking about it. We have two stops at LHP and there is just no way that food is sanitary with all those flies everywhere. All the other things are annoying but not DISGUSTING. A restaurant in the US would be shut down if flies were all over the food. I have no idea what I'm going to do about eating on the island.

Ready for some Fly-let Mignon or Fly-ce Cream!

I just watched a video and that was very disturbing. They also know it’s an issue based on the little propeller fans. Curious on what they can do to deal with a problem.

Reports from the preview cruise (Craig mentioned it in the DisUnplugged video) and also today is that the flies also followed guests back to the ship and there are flies currently all over the pool deck food (but from the video it doesn't look nearly as bad as the flies on LP but still ick)

The flies were all in Cabanas before we stopped at the island. But not around the food. Flying and dying in the windows. That is where they remained even after the stop. I had never seen that on any prior cruises.

This kinda’ reminds me of the opening day of Disneyland, although on a smaller scale (with the exception of the scale of that darn pier 😉).
Seems like they coulda’ waited ‘til Oct. or Nov. or even early Dec., and had the place more finished and all decked out for the Holidays.
And yea, one of Disney’s specialties used to be “The reveal”. That pier is a reveal alright, with the main reaction bein’ “WTH…?!?!?!” 🤣

Excuse my very rudimentary iPhone markup, but Disney could have made that pier at least a few feet wider with similar (sturdy) covers and put benches along the railing at either end of the covers in the shade, and it would have been so much more appealing.
These are the kinds of details Disney set the bar on and prided themselves on in days gone by.

That is what comes to mind for me too. A total disaster that turned into one of the biggest success stories in history. Flies should not have been a surprise, insects are at issue at Castaway Cay which is why they don't overnight there. And when the Magic got stuck at Castaway Cay, the insect issue became an on board issue.
I thought they had a tram that took you from the ship to land along the pier? As long as they have some help for those with mobility issues, a half mile walk shouldn't be an issue for others. Lord knows how far my 4 year old Granddaughter walked at Disneyland, so should be easy for kids.

The big strike was when Joe Rohde, who was in charge of the development, retired. His initial drawings were awesome. Then whoever took over seemed to scrap pretty much everything.

But now that Chapek is gone Rhode is back to teach other Imagineers,,,What does that tell you?

Now, it looks like an old standby is coming back to the Walt Disney Company for a short amount of time. In a recent post on Instagram, Walt Disney Imagineering announced that Joe Rohde, one of the most beloved Imagineers ever, will be returning to lead some master classes for everyone currently working with the company.

I have to agree with the fly problem. We watched 4/5 vloggers and we both made comments on how horrible the flies were.......it was 100% disgusting.....there is no way they ever should have served that food to anyone.

I also made numerous comments .....saying out loud...."where's the pool"?

Now - yes, the beach is very pretty, but I thought they would have at least put in some sort of pool to cool down in....doesn't even have to be a deep pool....something that people could use to get out of the heat.

The only water 'feature' was a small splash pad for the kids........and a slightly bigger one with a few 20' slides......not very impressive.....especially for Disney.

I'm thinking the imagineers who designed this place were interns or severely restricted with $$ cuts.

I don't understand why I keep reading, they provide transportation for folks that have mobility issues. Castaway Cay doesn't discriminate, EVERYONE can use their trams!! Why just mobility issues, all families can use them and they are terrific. Disney, you dropped the ball in a huge way, you have forgotten customer service here and keeping people just plain comfortable getting to the island. I'll stay with Castaway Cay, for sure.

Agree 110%, but in DCL's defense, since this was apparently the first time they served the masses, they may not have known flies were an issue.
