I am going to apply for a Disney Visa. I was interested in getting peoples thoughts on whether I should get the regular visa or the premier. Please let me know if you think the premier is worth it. Thanks!

I have the regular one as I do not like to pay a fee for using credit cards. Last time we went, we had quite a few rewards points so it felt like free money for fun extras.

DH and I just got the premier a few weeks ago. We used it for a few high end purchases as well as day to day things like restaurants , gas and groceries often..so the rewards added up fast for us. We already have 20ish rewards dollars and it's a much better ratio than our bank credit card.

The annual fee dosen't bother us as we plan to use this card to pay a few monthly bills on autopay , as well as using it for groceries and restaurants often. As we have two Disney vacations coming up within 6 months , it is well worth it for us.

Ironically enough DH didn't realize there were two Disney Visas and ended up applying for the premier so it worked out. :thumbsup2

Our policy is that we don't pay a fee for credit cards, BUT we did project how thing might work for us with the premier Disney Visa. We have had it ever since it was first offered, and have accumulated an absolute ton of reward dollars. We use the card for pretty much everything from Starbucks stops to a down payment on a car, and the rewards add up in a hurry for us.

I was able to apply 1100 reward dollars toward our upcoming trip (accumulated since 9/2012). I remember the good old days when our whole trips didn't cost that much. :)

Isn't that the truth! These vacations keep getting more and more expensive! I keep wondering if I should do vacation club.

I also hate to pay a yearly fee to have a credit card, so we have the regular one.
My American Express Blue card is free and gives 3% on grocery stores and a few other day to day expenses so we started using that one more. The Disney visa still comes in handy for places that don't take the Amex,or if there's a Disney credit card discount. Plus it's awfully cute as I have Tinkerbell on mine:love:

Thread drift alert:::: About DVC, DW and I often have thought the same thing. But to be honest I think our "WDW era" is ending. We have enjoyed many many vacations there over the past 14 years, but now that Disney's way of doing business has changed and our family has changed (kids growing up fast!) I am glad we are not actually invested in the place.
We will always love WDW, but I can see the future being more about the rare sentimental trip more so that WDW being the nexus of our annual vacation plans.

If you plan to spend at least $4900 or more in the select 2% categories, then the premiere is the way to go. Otherwise, do the regular. We got the premier when it first came out, and we have really noticed the increase speed at which we earn our rewards. We only have one credit card and we use it for everything possible and pay it in full each month. As long as you pay it completely off each month, it is a great card to have.

Depending on how long you can afford to wait, you may want to hold out for a good promotional offer before you apply. We were able to score a $200 Disney gift card when we signed up this past Spring.

I signed up for the sole purpose of getting a free gift card out of it and used it toward our upcoming trip. Saved me some money in the process. I don't like paying a fee for credit cards (exception being the southwest card which gave me 2 free flights - worth the $69 fee). I use our Chase Freedom card for everything else and we've accumulated money over the past year or so to pay for all of our food (including alcoholic beverages) while we are down in Disney.

This, exactly. The 2% categories are grocery stores, restaurants, gas stations, and disney. if your local target or walmart has a grocery section, it will likely be classified as a "grocery store" and you will get 2% on anything you buy there, even if what you buy isn't food.

The monthly statements break down how many disney dollars you earned at 1% and at 2%, so you can see if the 2% is enough to break even with the $49 annual fee. Because you'd get 1% back anyway, you need to earn $98 in 2% rewards to make up for the annual fee.

I never pay an annual fee for any card, but in this case it made total sense for us. Most of our expenses are gas and food, so we made up the annual fee amount in 3 or 4 months. Now any 2% awards we earn for the rest of the year are just gravy. Chase also waived the annual fee for our first year (well, they gave us a $49 statement credit to offset it). We weren't eligible for the $200 offers because we had gotten the $200 when we signed up for the original, non-fee Visa - all they'd give us on upgrade was the $49 credit.

I hope that's not too confusing. Math makes me :confused3

We signed up for it last year when they had a special and we got the 1st year free. After calculating our bills since, it takes 3-4 months to make back the fee. So it works out for us.

I have had the regular visa since 2005. My DW got one in 2008. Use them for everything including business expenses. Pay it off every month too. Saved up $2200 Disney Dollars for the 2007 vacation. Saved up $3200 Disney Dollars for the 2010 vacation. Leaving in 1 week for our 2013 vacation and will have saved up $4300 to spend in Disney World. Without it, probably never would have gone even once. You can do quite a bit and have some fun with that kind of Dollars.
Since we have two regulars, we do not need a Premier. Probably will not go back for about 5 years this time. Already thinking of what to do before I even leave for this one.:cool1:

This! I put everything on the card. Gas, food, rent all goes on as well as all of my work expenses. We will have more than what DXDP would cost for the three of us on our December trip. Plan to put it all on a gift card and do OOP with TIW! This is our version of free dining! :rotfl:

We just got our disney visa and I was wondering about the card discounts while in wdw. I found the small list of restaurants that offer you a 10% discount on meals but I can't find the list of stores in disney parks that give you 10% off if you spend at least $50 on merchandise. Does anyone have more details on the benefits? Thanks!

I like this way of thinking!

It is best to just ask at each store. I have gotten it at World of Disney, Trend D and Team Mickey all at DTD, and in the parks, too, but not sure which shops.

Keep in mind too the new chase visa debit option - points aren't accrued on these however the other benefits (discounts etc) do apply I think

Disney ran a promotion last year, where we were able to upgrade to the premier card for one year for free. Normally between WDW vacations & Disney cruises we would be able to more than the make up for the $49 fee. But the Good News for us is that Disney is now running a promotion where if you charge $2,500 (between 7/1 & 9/30) you get $50 in reward dollars, which will make up for this years $49 fee. So, basically, we'll have the premier card for free for 2 years. :)
