I just got off the phone with customer service over a $40 finance charge. Here's what happened as I understand it: When attempting to pay my September balance in full, as I do every month, I was short on the payment by about 10 cents as I musn't have read it right. Because I carried that 10 cents into October, EVERY charge I made in October was subject to a daily balance finance charge throughout the month. Yep, so even though I paid the October balance in full by the due date I had to pay interest on the WHOLE thing over that 10 cents. Credit card companies are scum, as we all know, but this is thievery.

What did they say to you on the phone? Usually when we have problems wirth CC companies I threaten to cancel my card and they come around and fix the problem.

I would speak to someone else and make another attempt to get that fee waived. I think any CC compant would try to do that to you, not just on a Disney Visa.

Unfortunately that's the way credit cards work. If you don't pay the balance in full you pay on the whole balance (I think it's the daily average or something) That's why you need to pay them off every month, but you already know that. I'm glad they worked with you. Most CC companies with work with you based on your payment history. Trust me, they make enough money that they will work with almost anything.

In fact (and the reason I responded) this is a good time of year that if you think you are getting in too deep with your CC to stop using that one and switch to another one for the rest of the month then if you are unable to pay one off you can still pay the other one in full and avoid finance charges.
