i posted a while ago and people said they had used disney reward points to get disney dollars. i went to the disney store today and was told i can not use the reward points to purchase disney dollars! i've already paid for my trip and we have the dining plan, so now i'm not sure what i can use the rewards for. if you buy little things around the park, like snacks or souveneirs, can you give them your hotel card to 'charge' them and then use the rewards card to pay off that?

(my original plan was to break the disney dollar bills and get cash to leave as tips.)

We used our rewards at the stores in DTD and MK. It works just like a gift card and on the reciept it tells you how much money you have left on it. I loved using the card because I did not have to worry about keeping track of cash.

You can use your disney rewards card all over the world. we finished ours off at world of disney before we left. i used it for souvineers elsewhere in the parks too.

We found plenty of things to use the money for! It was nice to have for the little 'extra' things that we would normally carry cash for. Between dining plan and the visa rewards, we carried hardly any cash with us. I think that dh and I each had $20 for the trip cash.

We used ours everywhere in the parks, even to buy those ever important mickey ice cream bars!! ~:p~

OK...I'm bracing for the FLAMES!! :duck: :duck: :duck:

Why would anyone think this is a worthwhile cc to have..no matter who's picture is on it??? :confused3 :confused3
There are 1:1 cards out there giving ff miles, accomodations..etc...

Just buy the Dollars..... .right?? :faint: :faint:

We left a credit card imprint at the hotel desk, charged everything to the room, and the night before we left we paid off our bill at the front desk with our disney $$.

Why would you get flamed? It's true...- I have the disney visa -only for the perks you get from having it, like the free movie screening etc- plus I got a pocketful of reward $$$ for getting one- But for purchases- I use a card that gives back 1:1- or sometimes 5:1 spent.... It just makes sense to get the most rewards back from a card as possible... I may not be the most knowledgeable here on this subject, anyone else? why use the dis visa when the rewards are lower than say, capitol one?

It is not the best card out there, but it's not that bad of a deal . For example, if you spend $25,000 you get $250 in Disney rewards. The same amount of spending will get you 1 airline ticket. I have had a United credit card, and the miles are very difficult to use, IMO. The dates & places I pick never have availability.

i actually agree with you. i was hoping for a lot more discounts for trips to disney. they don't exist, so i'm looking for another card with better rewards. i just don't want to end up with too many cards.

We buy disney dollars all the time with the rewards, Call Disney Visa direct--they are the ones who said you absolutely could use the rewards card for them. I would cancel mine tomorrow if you couldn't.

PS--How can you find the best rewards program out there????????

I bought $75.00 Disney Dollars with my reward card about 2 weeks ago at our Disney Store in Albany, NY. :confused3

Why I use it?........NO ANNUAL FEE!!!! Many of the other cards charge an annual fee and it negates the "reward". The interest rate doesn't matter to me as I pay off monthly. I took forever to get a
"free" flight that actually cost 150 for three annual fees AND a 35 dollar surcharge. That's why I switched to Disney. IF there's a better deal would someone post it?

Hate to see what a bad deal is!

Sense getting the card (day one member) we have over 1,000 disney reward dollars. (we have spent most of them, we ONLY have 250 for our next trip.

We have never paid a dime in late fee charges. We just charge what we can and pay it off next pay period. That is not normal spending for us (this is over a number of years now.) and we built an addtion on our house and put every bill we could on the Disney visa. In addtion we got quiet a few double points so that helped.

It works for me. I tell my husband, try not to think of it that spent $100 at target, but you got one more dollar for WDW. It makes him happy and me too.

If I am going to spend it at least I get it back for my vacations. My old cc gave me a clock radio. (we did get 2 airline tickets, but that took 4 years of saving up points.)

If you don't like it, don't get it. (oh by the way, I saw chicken little free this weekend thanks to Disney Visa.)

rosscoe(au), welcome to Dis. :cheer2:

Well, I am looking forward to using some of the perks- if you go to Disney- they can be nice...and the free movie, never done that before- I was thrilled... :cool1:
as for a card with good rewards...I mainly use Citi card -you get 1 point for every dollar spent, sometimes 5 points for every dollar, depends on store- up to $300 max in a year- no annual fee- I do that till I hit $300-
then switch to my miles one card-$19 annual fee, 1:1 dollars/points- get enough in there each year to pay for an airline ticket or 2, but they're chaniging their rules soon- I don't like the new ones, and might switch- but they're good with airline points- just make res. for any airline, any flight, then call and redeem your points and get the $$$ credited back to my account!
always pay balance each month, no fees + rewards = happy mama

I hear the Capital One No Hassles charge is supposed to be good for airlines miles. Does anyone know anything about this card?

I have the Disney Visa and have racked up over 900 so far, with mostly college tuition. I also pay it off monthly. I would like to try something different now though.

They WERE awesome, don't know how their new plan will work- but it's super easy to get points, and you can redeem for airline rewards, cash, or gift certificates- in the past- when airfares were very low, I'd just redeem for the 125 cash, made more $$ that way- now that prices are higher, we've been using for airline redemption-
it was price of ticket times 80 points= the amount back to your card- so if the ticket cost 150- it would take 12,000 points-

It's really not that great of a deal. Our normal card is the Citibank Drivers' Edge card (formerly the Ford card). We get, I think, 3% toward the purchase of any car, new or used, purchased from anywhere. We've used this a couple times and have gotten a few thousand off our car purchased in the last several years.

We maxed out our annual points allowed on that card, so just got the Disney Visa to build up a bit of spending money for our trip next month. Plus we're using the 0% for 6 months for the cost of our trip. It'll be nice to be able to spend $50 or $60 on souveniers without putting any dent in our pocketbook.

A lot of people won't use FF miles or accomodations because the card issuers make it so difficult to do so, with blackout dates, etc. Also, it's misleading to compare the 1:100 Disney ratio to another card's 1:1 ratio, because all you're talking about is points, and you can't compare two completely different point systems. I could have a card that gives you a thousand points for every dollar you spend, but if it takes two million points to earn a free DVD, it's still not a good deal, is it? It's more realistic to compare what you get for those points. And as someone earlier pointed out, spending $250K can get your $250 in Disney Dollars to spend freely, or can get you one airline ticket that's severely limited in its usefulness. And finally, the Disney dollars can be used without having to build up a large balance first. With my Capital One card, I have to spend several thousand dollars before I can cash in any points. With Disney, the minimum number of points you can cash in is 10, which means that as soon as you spend $1000 on the card, you have a bonus you can use. I got the Disney Visa for the $50 bonus, and I'm also excited about the exclusive character Meet and Greet opportunity. After this trip, I'll probably go back to using my Capital One card more often.

Edited to add... I forgot about the 0% financing option on Disney trips. Even if you have the cash to pay for your trip, it's nice to let it sit in the bank and earn a bit of interest. And get a few more points by doing it! :teeth:

I agree it's not the best deal out there, but the free movie perk really helps. I recently opened a Chase rewards card that gives back 5% cash on grocery, gas and drug store purchases, plus 1% back on everything else. I got a $100 cash bonus just for opening the account and making my first purchase. So, I'm using this card for all my food, gas and drug store purchases and I use my Disney card for other things. I should have about $200 Disney reward dollars by the time we go to Disney in January. I don't know how much I'll continue using it after that trip. It'll probably be awhile before we go back to Disney after this trip (of course, I always say that but we always find a way  ).
