Disney Visa...is it worth it?

I have been thinking about applying for a Disney Visa because I hear there are some good perks but I am trying to decide if the perks are worth it. I wouldn't be doing the balance transfer option since the APR on my current card is lower than the Disney one but there are no rewards or perks on that card.

What kind of discounts do you get and what other benefits are there? I am trying to decide if this is a good card to get since I am trying to take a yearly vacation to Disney every year now.

The Disney VISA is the only credit card we use. No annual fee, don't know about the monthly fees because we pay it off each month so we have no finance charges. Since we visit Disney relatively often, I just save my rewards points and transfer them to a Disney Rwards card right before each trip. Then we use that like cash while at Disney. This year it is paying for our DDP. I have used it for park tix in the past as well.

I don't use the other discounts much, as a matter of fact I don't think I have ever taken advantage of the other offers. I like the card because I KNOW I'll use the points and they won't go to waste. I used a card for awhile that offered airfare but it was too much of a hassle...dates weren't good, needed to pay full price for another ticket, etc.

The only problem I have ever had with the Disney VISA was the rewards points expiring ince they are put onto a Rewards card. But overall we have been very pleased!

We love the Disney reward $$$. We paid for 20% of our last trip that way. We've also used it to get discounts on "behind-the-scenes" tours at WDW. In addition, we did the free photo thing at Epcot. Got some great pics that are now sitting on our fireplace.

Its a disney visa card which gives you money back for disney! (1% of purchases which do add up) I had one 2 years ago , got a 15 dollar gift card the 1st time I used it, and then had 0% apr for 12 months, got a free meet n greet family 5x7 in epcot, traded in my points for my disneycard and paid it off and closed it out when the 0% ran out. I do that with all my cards! LOL
Those banks arent getting an extra cent of my hard earned money!
I just recieved a new card in the mail for this thanksgiving`s trip! also 12 months 0% apr, I called and they even fed -exed it to me overnite (I waited too long to apply!) and got to pay off my package balance with it! I got so tickled looking at the sparkling magical castle on the front, heck you think tinkerbell herself brought it!

IMO, the only way the Disney Visa is worth it is if it is the only card you use for every single thing. Its hard to rack up points on the Disney card for 1 pt. for every $100. I believe in reponsible spending so you'd really have to use that one card for everything. Since 2005 I have racked up about 270 points.

I don't think they are the same. Some one said they put there points on the rewards card so they don't expire, so is it like a gift card?

It is worth it for us because we do put nearly everything on it--gas, groceries, dinner tabs, Target trips, etc.

On every statement you will see how many reward dollars you have. Like OP said, it is 1% of your purchases. When you are ready to use those "dollars" you have to call to order a different card--it's not a VISA--think of it as a gift card. They will transfer your reward dollars onto the card and then you use it at Disney or Disney Stores, or Disney on-line, as cash. nce the dollars are on the reward card they will expire at the end of the following calendar year (eg--I just put mine on a card for our Nov trip and they expire Dec '08). Once the dollars are on the card they can't be transferred to a different card or put back into your account.

Hope this helps.

Rewards Card = the way you spend rewards dollars/points you've earned.

Say you've accumulated 500 points, using your Disney Visa. Call the 800# on the Visa statement and they will send you a Rewards Card - just like a credit card with a magnetic strip on the back. There will be $500 (or however many points you choose to transfer) loaded on that 'rewards card/credit card' that you can use the same as cash at Disney - for meals, hotel, souvenirs - whatever you would use a regular credit card for.

But - once you load them on to the Rewards Card, they DO expire - 12-15 months after you load them, I believe. So be sure to just transfer the amount you think you will use. If you leave the points sitting on your credit card statement, I think they expire in 5 years.

Same here. We do gas, groceries, & a couple of bills. I'm estimating by next trip, I should have ~$400 Disney dollars to spend. If I'm going to spend that money anyways, why not? As one poster said though, you do have to be responsible with it.

Both DH and I have Disney Visas. We LOVE them!!! Like other posters, we pay most everything with our Disney Visas. I just keep track of what charges are "budget items" and what are "extras". Everything that is a budget item, I pay right away (bi-weekly) and then make an extra payment once a month to bring down my "extras" balance. Works great!

I am also looking forward to the special cardholder only photo session at Epcot and getting the discount at the World of Disney Store at Downtown Disney during our trip this year.
