Disney Visa--How do you use yours?

I too am a big fan of the Disney Visa Card.

I use 3 cards... The GM Card (which gives you 5% back towards a GM card). So I use this for purchases until I get the their annual maximum (which is $500 of rebates).

The Chase Freedom Card (which gives you 3% back on purchases in your 3 top categories). We use this for Gas and Groceries exclusively.

And Disney Visa for everything else. 6 months interest free on Disney bookings is great. We have accumulated lots on the card. We have $490 in rewards to spend on our trip in 2 weeks. Whoo Hoo.

(in full disclosure I work for Chase - but not in the credit card business - and I do not get any added bennies on the 2 Chase Cards I happen to use regularly)

I mainly use my Southwest Airlines Visa and put all my monthly recurring charges like cable, cell phone, newspaper as well as all my online purchases, gasoline and food shopping on it. This usually earns me at least two, sometimes three free roundtrip airline tickets a year.

Since I got the Disney Visa I use it for food and gas purchases instead of using the SWA card. I have about $250 in reward dollars so far this year.

Airline tickets to WDW: FREE
Spending money for WDW: FREE
Vacationing with my family in my favorite place on earth: PRICELESS

Would some of you Disney Visa pros be kind enough to offer some insight to a Disney Visa Newbie?

DH and I use our American Express for everything - we love to hoard our Membership Rewards points . . . But alas, there are places that don't accept AmEx, and so we recently switched our Visa to a Disney Visa, thinking that even though we don't use it very often, someday it will add up to something good. :-)

Our question is this: When our statement says that we have "X" amount of points on our card - does that mean we have "X" amount of dollars we can use? And how, exactly, do you redeem them? We're smart people, but are a tad confused.

Many thanks!

If it says you have 50 rewards points then that is $50. If you click the button to redeem rewards you can then put the points on a card. They will send a card in the mail and you can then use the # on the card to make an online purchase or use the card like a credit card in person to make a purchase. You can keep the same card until it expires and add more points to it. I don't put the points on the card until I am ready to use it as it does expire. I hope this makes sense.

Disney Visa currently has an offer of a $100 gift card for new cardholders. Since I already had a Disney Visa, my husband signed up, charged his AP to it and recieved the $100 gift card within two weeks. You can't beat that!

The link is incredibly long, I hope this works:

I have a Disney VISA card. My name is on the bill, but I got a card for my husband, too. Does this mean that he can get a separate account as well? I'm thinking I will put everything on one card and pay it off each month. But we can use the other card for emergencies; maybe using one infrequently will prompt some offers that I don't receive since I pay mine off each month??? I'm just tired of hearing about all these great offers, but I never get offered anything because I pay my balance each month. Will this work?

I have one as well. I never thought to have my husband get one. That is a good idea. Was he an authorized user on your account?

Like many others have posted, we use our Disney Visa for everything....gas, groceries, doctor's bills, etc. Then we pay it off at the end of the month. We initially got our card when DVC had a special promotion to save $75 off your MF. I saved up our Reward Points for a year and a half, then applied them to our shipboard credit on DCL. Whenever I hand someone my credit card now, I tell them about how Mickey "paid" for my trips to the ship's spa! :thumbsup2

We use our Disney Visa as a debit card, and put all of our household purchases on it and pay it off at the end of every month. We receive approximately $300-400 every year in Disney rewards dollars (which we usually use for server tips and souveniers). We have to be very budget conscience but it works well for us. :thumbsup2

I too applied for the Disney Rewards Visa to save $75 on my MF.:goodvibes Since then, I have used this card as my 'consumables' card (Gas, Groceries, eating out, etc) and I pay it off every month. BUT every year since I have gotten the card, I have earned at least $200 for food and souveniers during my trips to WDW.

We too use our card for everything. We have been getting 5xs the reward dollars when you spend over a certain amount (it will vary depending on how much you spend each month) on gas, groceries and travel postcard so that helps too. You can go online and pay it every 3 days if you want. I like to pay it once a week so at the end of the month it's not out of hand. I always carry a balance, but it's less than $300. I paid this year's MFs and also just got a PH before the price went up with my rewards. Love it!!

This is awesome. I've been using the card for a month now and can't wait to see how many reward points I have earned so far. :cool1:

Thanks everyone for all your input and ideas! I am excited to get our card and start using it. We have a few large purchases coming up and it would be great to have a few reward points to use on our upcoming trip.

WeLuvDisney--can you tell me at what level you receive 5x's the points? Guess I should go back and read the fine print of the application!

BLAKENJ: they will send you the offers to earn additional points. Mine usually arrive first by e-mail, then later by snail mail. Both my husband and I have cards, and yet his "minimum" threshold is always less than mine ($250 vs $750 or so). Can you tell who charges more each month?:rotfl:

Since your card is new, you may want to call Chase customer service to see if you qualify for the additional reward offer (the current one runs from July to September). Good luck accumulating those Disney Dollars!!

Okay, so I am an authorized user on my husbands account. Does anyone know if I apply for the card, am I a new card holder and eligable for the gift card?

Yes, DH had one in his name with me as an authorized user. I applied for one in my name and got it along with the $100 gift card.
Good luck:thumbsup2

How much do you have to spend to get 5X's?

How much do you have to spend to get 5X's?

We have 3 DV cards and Chase usually sends a postcard to us for one of them to get the 5x rewards. Each postcard will be different depending on how much you normally spend. One time it was $1,000.00 per month (but it's only on certain categories) and this time it was $500.00. So we switch which card we are currently using depending on which one gets the postcard.

P.S. And don't forget that if you refer someone, you get $25 additional rewards. I don't know if husband/wife referral counts, but I referred my DS for his first cc and it worked! I've had to call them on each referral but I've always gotten the points.

Oops, sorry for the delay in answering. Yes, my DH had his own card in conjunction with mine. I was the primary account holder. I wasn't sure if they would allow him to apply on his own and get the $100 but they did. :cool1:Now I am trying to convince my unemployed DD to try. Hey, it can't hurt. :rotfl:

from time to time you will get a postcard or email that says if you spend over a certain amount (say $500) over a certain period (line per billing cycle) on certain items (like groceries or airlines) then you will get a certain amount of bonus disney dollars.

we have rec'd several of these offers.

Once it worked out great as the deal was: "spend over $500 on airfare, gas and groceries per month and get 4% extra disney dollars on the amount over $500".

I was about to buy plane tickets to WDW for 7 people, so I made it well over the $500 base and was able to collect a bunch of disney dollars.
