Such a simple concept but I am having a problem grasping it...

Do you earn the points when you charge purchases to your card, or when you pay those purchases off?

Neither.

You get credited for your purchases when your next statement is created. That would be 3-5 days after your payment was due. So, let's say that your last bill was due today (1/26/12) and you made $115 in purchases that are not on that statement. Your next bill will be generated around 1/29/12. The $1.15 Disney Rewards Dollars that you earned will go into your account on that day.
