I've had the Disney Visa for almost 4 years now and we have earned over $1000 rewards dollars. We set it up so that all of our monthly bills are automatically charged to the card and then we pay off every month. We only get 3 bills a month! (car payment, mortgage and the Disney bill!) Each $100 spent earns 1 Reward dollar.
You can use the reward dollars on almost anything Disney (online, the
Disney Store, WDW,
DCL, DL, etc....) When you acquire at least 20reward dollars, you request a Disney Rewards card (different from the Visa) and you can load it with as many ponts as you have available. The Rewards card and any points you have put on it will expire in December of the year after you request it, so Rewards cards requested now expire in 12/2008. The only points that actually expire on that date are ones you transfer to the card. Otherwise, accrued points sit in your Rewards account for 7(?) years. You have to put a minimum of 20 Reward dollars on the card when you initially request it and you can add Rewards to it (minimum of 10) any time after you receive it.
Our trip is in 1/2008 so I requested a Rewards card last year and transferred just enough Reward dollars to it to cover the cost of our tickets. We used it to buy our tickets and now that card has no Rewards on it because it expires in December of this year. I ordered a second Rewards card this year and put enough Reward dollars on it to cover our resort stay. The second card expires in December of next year. You can only have 2 active Rewards cards at a time so I cannot request another card until the first one expires. I can, however, put points on either card at any time, as long as I transfer at least 10 points minimum. It does NOT have to be 10 point INCREMENTS.
Just a heads up... if you book a resort stay for early in the year using a Rewards card, make sure that the card does not expire before your stay! If a discount comes up and your card has expired, they cannot "refund" your Reward dollars because the card will no longer be valid. ( I just booked a 2 night stay at POP for Jan '08 using Reward dollars and I confirmed with Chase that I can, in fact, receive a "credit" back to my Rewards card if I can apply a discount at a later date. You have the same return privileges you would have if you paid with any credit card.)
I hope this answers some of your questions. Honestly, there are plenty of CC's out there with better incentives than the Disney Visa, but I still love carrying Mickey Mouse around in my purse!
