Disney VISA discount question...

Disney World offers a variety of discounts to Disney VISA card holders; there are 10%-20% discounts on things like tours, purchases, restaurants, etc. Of course, they vary, not a lot of places offer them, and you have to ASK for the discount. MY question is, do I have to be using my Disney VISA card to get the discount? Specifically, if I am using a Disney VISA rewards card (i.e., using reward points), will they honor the discount if I ask for it while paying with rewards?

I used my reward points and got the discount but paid the remainder of the balance with my disney visa... I would like to know as well.

It's my understanding that, yes, you do have to be using your Visa card to get the discount. The rewards card is allowed, because it's an extension of the Visa card. Again, that's my understanding.

I bought a few things at mouse gear last week and asked the woman at the register if I could get the discount. She said that I had to use the visa to pay for the purchase.i couldn't just show her my visa to get the discount. I thought I did read another person say that they were able to get the discount by only showing the card but I could be wrong on that.

It's one of those depends on CM things. I know my BFF has gotten discount just showing card and paying cash and other times where she's had to actually use card to get discount ( we have gotten to point we just use AP discount)

You are supposed to use your Visa for the purchase. If someone else reported that they only showed it and didn't have to use it then that is an exception on the part of the cashier. The perks you receive for using your Disney Visa are clearly listed on the website.

I am asking because several of the TS restaurants we will be going to give discounts for Disney VISA cardholders. I am going to be using my VISA rewards card as much as possible but I know it's not going to cover everything. I was planning on using my rewards card until the money is gone, and then use my VISA. I guess I was just hoping that I could get the discount even when using the rewards card (NOT when paying cash or with a different credit card).

Never mind, I think I just answered my own question. According to the Chase/Disney VISA website:
Disney Theme Park Perks
Offers subject to change without notice. Use a valid Disney Visa Card and/or Disney Rewards Redemption Card for special offers. Must mention the offer to receive the merchandise discount.

Doesn't that sound like I should be able to get the discount when using the rewards card (as long as I 'remind' them!)?

:thumbsup2 You can absolutely use the rewards card instead of your Disney Visa at a participating restaurant and get the discount. It is specified on the website, as you quoted. We did this at Boma two weeks ago - I charged most meals to the room with the magic band, but I used the rewards card at Boma for the discount.

I think the person who showed the card and paid cash got lucky or got a CM who did not understand the terms. Payment with the Disney Visa or the Disney Rewards Redemption card is supposed to be required.

You can always bring a printout of the terms from the website if you are concerned, but our server knew right away that we could either use the Visa or the rewards card.

One additional thing they told me last year - was that even if you linked your Disney VISA to your magic band, you need to use the physical card to get the discount. I am not sure if that has changed or not....

That's how it was last month, too. My Disney Visa was linked to the MB, but I had to use the card or the rewards card.
