Hubby just heard on a Pod Cast that there are rumors of the Disney Visa being discontinued. If true, a big bummer for us! They just started it!

Anyone else hear this?

I think he misinderstood as I saw a post regarding the old Disney card. It is being discountinued. It was the one that could only be used at WDW, DL, DS, etc. I can see why they are doing away with it. With the new disney visa I would think that a lot of the old cards are inactive and not generating much money. I don't mind them getting rid of it as it will be one less card on my credit report. That's the plus side I see for me as I don't use the card anymore.

unprofitable - I worked on the development of this card for Citibank, which ultimately lost to Bank One in the bidding. There were YEARS of research put into this. I also worked on the development of the Sony Visa, and I can tell you that it is Chase that pays for the rewards - all Disney puts in are the extras. It can be extremely unprofitable if you have a lot of transactional users - people that don't carry a balance, pay everything every month. Banks lose money on these people.

I thought that the "old" Disney card was done away with a loooong time ago!?

my mom loved the old card and when ever she uses her disney vias card she said "more point towards my disney cruise." We do enjoy are fifty dollar towards the spa and other thing( like lots and lots of disney cruise items ;) ) and sometime special discounts toward disney world!

It is definitely the old Disney Card that's being discontinued. The Disney's Visa will continue to be accepted everywhere.

Yes, it's the old Disney/Disney Store card being done away with finally. Too bad, we loved it just for old-times sake.

The 1st poster was right though. I heard the same thing about the Visa card on the Inside The Magic Podcast. I think the host just had the wrong info!

This pretty much sums it up.

It's not the Disney Visa Card thast is being discontinued. I received a letter on Monday from the bank that issued the old Disney brand credit card issued by one of the GE banks that all those accounts would be closed effective October 1, 2005.

Yep, thats right. The Disney card is being discontinued, not the Disney Visa.

Son of a gun, didn't even know that was still around. We closed ours years ago after we received the 25th anniversary silver holographic card. We just wanted it as a souvenier. We did not want the card any more since there was no benefit in having it. Our GM Master card gets us several grand off a new car purchase .

I'm with the last poster. I am a charter member of the Disney card (back when it was The Disney Store Credit Card). I have the Disney Visa as well, and pretty much only use the Disney Credit Card when I place orders from the catalog (Disney Direct), as my card is a team card. This will mean that i have to set up an account at Disney Direct online, which I don't like (I don't like ordering things over the internet).

:sad2:
