There is now a link on the Disney Club web site that will take you directly to the Disney Visa site where you can now apply for the card. Only 1% of purchases will be applied towards the "disney dream rewards". I guess there will be special promotions where you can earn double or triple reward points. You pay no interest on Disney vacation packages or Disney Cruise packages for the first 6 months. There is no interest charges for the first six months and the annual APR is as low as 11.15% (this seems high to me, my AMEX Blue is only 9.9%). I am not sure if you can access the page directly through bank one's web site.

Here is the text of the letter I was sent. there are a couple of things I was a little uncomfortable with, one being one point for every $100.00 spent. That means to me that they will round purchases down to the nearest $100 each month! Also, they have a number that you have to call to tell them not to give out your information. (the number is (800) 869-9638) Unfortunately, there is no place to list it on the form so they can give out your information before you are even approved!

Also, remember to use the code from the place you want the card titled...IE if you are DVC and want it on the card you had better give them the DVC code. The code listed below is from some random department.

Here is the text...

Well, and we all know their vacation packages aren't often the best $ route for a consumer to go anyway. Seems you are over paying just to get a few points. :p

I did fill out the online applicationfor the Disney credit card, but have had 2nd thoughts. Frankly, it's a terrible deal. The rate for most will be 11.5% but much higher for others. The 1% deal is an insult and the promise of doubling points hardly qualifies as a perk because Disney will do this at company convenience and is nothing for the consumer to rely on.

I guess loan sharking is next.:)

This is a serious step down from the value provided by the Disney Club, and I'm not about to be suckered into signing up for it.

I'm hoping that it's a total flop, which it deserves to be. At very least, the rebate rate should ALWAYS be better on Disney purchases, which is the case with every other loyalty card of this type that I have seen.

I'll stick with using my Starwood AMEX for free lodging at S/D.

This IS a terrible deal.
Does Disney think we're uneducated in the ways of credit or what?? I'm further disappointed because there is not one "reward" listed that is not purely "manufactured" by Disney.
It may appeal to first-timers, but not us veterans of the vacation world.
Boycott this one, folks !!

I applied, it is free, and I will pay it off each month. as far as one point per $100, it is a new angle and the number of points to redeem things should be lower by a factor of 100. I will wait until I get the list of perks to say how bad they are.

With this program, its not actually points, but dollars you are earning.

So if you go buy $100 worth of groceries at the supermarket, you will earn $1 to spend on whatever Disney locations accept these "dollars".

Basically, its a 1% rebate on everything you charge.

As I've said on other threads, I agree that the apparent lack of straight-up discounts is a big negative. Both the DC and AMEX White Glove program had discounts.

However, the rewards portion seems to be on a par with most other rewards programs, and you can get some good value out of it if you pay it off each month, or if the rate is no higher than what you currently pay.

I agree however, that the DC definitely allowed more people to get benefits.

"I'm further disappointed because there is not one "reward" listed that is not purely "manufactured" by Disney"

How is this different then any other rewards card. Delta "manufactured" their miles. GM "manufactured" their 5% rebate towards a car purchase, Starwood's "manufactured" points toward stays in their hotels. What should Disney have offered, passes to US/IOA ?

The 1% rebate is pretty much standard CC reward perk. What I'm interested in are the other vacation discounts they mention without going into details. We may find them to be as usefull as some of the DC discounts.

Right now my DC card annual fee was offset by my AP purchase. The new CC card has no fee,so in affect it hasn't cost me anything. The majority of the WDW perks I get are from my AP's and DVC membership.

Matt, they are "Disney Dream Reward Dollars", which may or may not have any relation to real dollars. An AP may only cost 50 Dream Reward Dollars (just a number I picked out of the air) which is equivalent to 5,000 in purchases. Again, I will wait until I see the redemption schedule to judge how bad a deal it is. They also have special member bonus offers. This might include APs, and the things that they gave us with the DC/MK card. The card is free, so I will let them spend money on me. Worst case scenario, I cancel the card and frame it! More probably I will keep it (if for no other reason than to make them send me a statement every month with no purchases on it...this costs them)

BTW, you can call the privacy line now and they will let you opt out. I was told by them that you have 30 days to opt out before they start giving out you information.

Frankly, we were doing better when Amex was the official card. Amex has a one point per dollar spent, and you can use those points on Disney things like breakfasts, tickets, etc. It wasn't a great return rate, but it had to be as good as the 1%. Plus there were Amex discounts at world of disney that was a good deal, some dining discounts, things like cirque, the WATER CRAFT discount that I really LOVED, and those kewl fanny packs / lanyards. When you combined it with Disney Club, which to renew cost like $20-$30, you got the disney magazine, the ticket discounts which were worth the price right there, wdw discounts, and the 10% discount at disney store (not that dvc doesn't do that, or that there is anything there to buy, but it was nice to have).

But beyond the fact that it is hard for me to see that this is better than what we had before, what is really insulting about it is all the talk about the rewards programs coming out for frequent customers. This doesn't seem like much of a rewards program, and certainly not the type that was described (the Peter Pan fan gets Peter Pan coupons or whatever). We've been screwed. I've said it before, and I'll say it again, I think it is a bunch of crap.

D-R, while you are probably right, I am on record as saying that I want to see the details...I still want to see the proof in the pudding, not on the stain. As I posted earlier, a Disney Reward Dollar is not a Dollar. IF they are redeemable on a 1 for 1 basis with real dollars, and no special kudo for using them, it would be a very bad deal. If there were no additional bonuses for having the card I will tell people not to bother. I ordered one for DW and me. when I get the card benefits package (not just the one page ad that describes a few key points) I will figure out just how much it is worth, or will cost, to use that card.

IMHO a little patience is better than flying off the handle...
Know thyne enemy and keep them closer than your friends.

Until I KNOW that I'll be able to redeem "Dream Dollars" for park passes other than UMP (my guess is that they'll only be good for UMP's), I'm not going near it...
My AA Card is earning me lots of air miles that save me money on Disney trips.

OK, DW and I were doing a bit of math. APs are $392+/- that would mean if it were a 1-1 reward dollar to dollar "value" you would have to spend 39,200 per pass. PAPs are $519+/-, so $51,900 spent for one of those. I think not. Uncle mike isn't that stupid. He might be that greedy, but not that stupid. I still have dreams of discounts (even if purchased with the card)

Then it really sucks for some poor schlep who could have joined the disney club, but doesn't have the credit history to get the new card.
