Disney Visa accepting applications on-line!

I think that they will give this card to just about anyone. they will vary credit amount and interest rate. I could be wrong, but I think I remember hearing that somewhere.

Besides myself how many out there sent a message to the big D. about the sh**** replacement of the Dvc by a get next to nothing in return visa card.

Sorry had a male moment. I didn't read what I wrote. What I meant was has anybody written the big D about doing away with the Disney Club and replacing it with a do-nothing charge card.

40+, I am upset as well. I started protesting when they first made the anouncement. I have to say for the record that this card is not officially a replacement for the DC. It is a "Bone" that they leaked out to the press to keep themselves from being skinned alive by passionate members. We have all written letters, would you like the address?

Or you can send an e-mail to guest communications. I don't think either will do any good, but go ahead and knock yourself out.....

Again, I will wait until I see the redemption schedule to judge how bad a deal it is.
To a certain extent, I agree, but my hopes rest more in the "bonus opportunities" than in the redemption schedule. Here's why:

Somewhere there was a blurb about being able to combine Reward Dollars with other offers. If Reward Dollars have separate redemption values, this would seem to make things very confusing.

I also saw something about needing to get the Reward Dollars transfered to a certificate or card before using. This sounds a lot like a gift certificate or gift card, which would makes sense, since these already exist and wouldn't require any new mechanism to distribute rewards. If one Reward Dollar does not equal a real dollar, then this would again be extremely confusing.

With so many Disney Stores and other locations accepting these reward dollars, I would think it needs to be as simple as possible. By just putting dollar values on gift cards, it becomes transparent to most locations.

My guess is the "bonus opportunities" are ways to get double or triple points on certain purchases. For instance, double reward dollars at Disney Stores, either all the time, or during certain time periods. Or double reward dollars on certain products.

Still though, I don't know this for sure, and certainly I could be wrong. Either way, your point about the true value not being know until we get the details is well taken.

I think that they will give this card to just about anyone. they will vary credit amount and interest rate. I could be wrong, but I think I remember hearing that somewhere.
Well..... There were three rates quoted over the phone, the highest being 15.15%. That's a variable rate, but 15.15 is what it would currently be. This is far below the rates charged for what the credit card industry deems "high risk" customers. Those rates can climb well into the 20%'s, and occasionally even low 30%'s. Even then, many people do not qualify.

Further, since this is a rewards card, you are "sacrificing" a lower rate in exchange for the opportunity to earn rewards. So the credit requirements will most likely be closer associated with cards that charge lower rates.

The way these rewards cards usually work, the credit card company uses their normal underwriting procedures. Bank One is most likely paying Disney for the right to issue this card, so they cannot afford to take any more credit risk than they normally would, particularly in today's climate.

In short, that means there really are going to be a lot of people who will not qualify for this card. I'd guess that those interested in the card have a higher average credit rating than the population at large, but still, many former Disney Club members will not qualify, though most AMEX customers will.

Well, I just called BankOne, and found out I have been approved. I should have my card and all of the details in 10 (business) days!!!!!!!

I will keep you posted ;)

My AA Card is earning me lots of air miles that save me money on Disney trips.
This is a good point... We have to fly to WDW, so airline travel is as much a part of our cost as park tickets, souvenirs, and meals. I have a Delta card, and get a mile for every dollar. Our airfare to Orlando usually runs us in the low $300's. Even at $250, that's a 1% reward on purchases (25k = continental US ticket), which would be equal to Disney's offer.

However, I also get double points on purchases at gas stations and grocery stores, so it works out to better than 1%. Further, 30k miles get's a ticket to Hawaii, and that's usually worth over $400.

Those "bonus opportunities" for the Disney card need to be reasonably significant.

Hi,

The Disney stores are not doing well. Is this credit card a plan to bloster profits for these store - many of which are already running enormous sales and on the verge of going out of business?

The real problem is not many kids want spin off toys from loser movies - no credit card perk can change that.

Well, I know I'm risking life and limb by posting here, but I just can't help myself. I think we should wait and see what Disney has to offer (ALL THE DETAILS) before we get so darn nasty.

I realize that this particular board seems to encourage quite a bit of negativity towards Disney, but it often appears that the animosity it based on pure speculation. It makes sense to me to wait and see what the card has to offer. Disney is not a bazillion dollar enterprise because they make dumb decisions or insult the intelligence of their audience. Sure, all companies flounder from time to time ("new" Coke) but overall Disney does one thing really well...provide a wonderful entertainment venue for people all over the world. If, along the way, they make other things available to the consumer, like this card, great. Remember, it's optional. Disney is not forcing us to take advantage of the card.

I too was a Disney Club (previously Magic Kingdom Club) cardholder. I love my discounts! I am wishing, hoping, praying that they offer some sort of discount for the credit cardholders as well. If not, oh well. I just remind myself that they don't "owe" me anything.

I agree, spoken like a true lady.....Welcome to the thread. I agree with a lot of what you say. As stated earlier, I have been approved and anticipate myy card in (now) 9 business days!!!!! I will post whatever details after I spend the requisit time reading the fine print.

I don't think this board is extreemely negative, OK, there are a few people here;), but rather more informed about the problems within the company. They have been known to make a lot of decisions that I would not deem as apropriate. The problem is that most of the people on this board love Disney so much that we hate to see anything bad, let alone the extent of bad things happening now.

I think that this is the only thing you said that could be flamed;). You will find several people who would disagree withmyou about current and past management styles, and where the "Bazillion" dollars was made.....

Now that is preaching to the choir, but then again I am a DVC member, so they owe me cheap rooms etc.....

Once again, WELCOME, you have a lot uof support on this board...

Thanks for the very kind words, Ohanafamily. We are DVC Members too, so you are right, we are in it for the long haul....kinda like marriage....for better or for worse.....ha!

I noticed you are from Dallas, me too!!!! Where is your DVC home? Our is Beach Club and Hilton Head. Actually, we are off to visit that special rodent, Mickey, tomorrow for an extended weekend visit!

Hello all,

I applied for the card Friday. I asked the guy taking info how this promo was going. He said it's been the biggest thing he's ever seen. They were trying to hire people off the street to work the phones.

Keep in mind this is/was before the general announcement to the public. Though I suspect most Super Disney Fans picked up the info off this and other sites. For better or worse, looks like we have a winner (in participation perspective)

I was in our Disney Store on Sunday; just picked up a catalog and a 2.50 hand towel. I told the manager that I'm waiting till my card gets here then I'll do some damage. (Mainly park tickets for the trip we're planning ). She said that she needed to get a card to and was surprized that I knew about it. She thought it currently was just for employees and shareholders??

This looks decent to me seeing as there aren't many alternatives. I plan on moving most of our monthly expenses to this card to generate the most points and will pay off the card each month.
Like others though, will wait to see what the actual deals and specials are when the card arrives.

Curious about the DVC, seems like an okay deal, but do the annual maintenence fees escalate in cost every year (ie in relation to inflation)? and do the points initially purchase decrease in how many nights you can get ( also in relation to inflation ) ?

Please forgive the long post, I appreciate your comments.
Peace

The key will be how many people are using it several months from now. BankOne only makes money if people use the card, and its likely that Disney gets paid by BankOne for every Reward Dollar earned. So customers have to use it for it to benefit the two companies.

That's mostly going to depend on the true value of the offer, which we don't yet have a complete picture of.

I suggest checking out the DVC board on this site. You can learn a LOT over there, and there are FAQs posted as well.

However, to answer your questions, dues can go up or down depending on the years budget. Usually its up, but they have actually gone down on occasion. I believe they can increase no more than 10% in a year, and I'm not aware of any increases reaching that level.

The points required to stay at a DVC resort can be re-allocated, but not increased. In other words, if they increase the points required to stay in the Summer, or on weekends, there must be a corresponding decrease elsewhere in the year or week. The net change must be zero.

trampslady, Yes, we do live in Dallas. Our DVC Points are mostly at Boardwalk, a few at Wilderness, and a few at BCV.

gtrist4life, If you want to check the status of your card application, call this number: (800) 777-1240. Additionally. DVC is worth it if you go more than once every 2 years. We have 400 points and have yet to bank a point. PM me if you want the DVC Witness speil.

Thanks Raidermatt and Ohanafamily,

I will check out the DVC board and the status of my cc app. We've been to WDW in 86 for our honeymoon, then in 96 for our tenth.

We really got the Disney magic in 2001, went last year with about 7 other family members (gotta share that magic!) and are planning to go the week before Christmas this year with as many family members that want/can go.

After this year we'll probably wait a year or two before going back.

Thanks again,
Peace

Brace yourselves for this one......

I Was Wrong

I just got through on the phone to someone who was actually trained on the card. I was very disappointed. (I asked her if I was the first one to call her with a question on this card; she sheepishly answered yes.)

Disney reward dollars are redeemable for gift certificates at a 1-1 value. There is no additional discounts offered at TDS or the parks. You must also redeem them for gift cards in $20 minimum increments. They are merchandise credits, so there is no cash value except where the gift card is accepted for merchandise. Balances will be carried forth on the gift-cards.

There is not any special incentive for Disney lovers to use the card (yet... this is the hook, they may choose to throw us a bone)

Once again, I do not have this in a hard-copy, but this is what I was told.

If Baron and the rest don't mind my over use of color...

at this point in time

Not A Magical Deal

I will keep the card for the status, and hopefully they will add perks, but I will discourage people from using it for more than 1 or 2 charges every 6 months (to keep it activated), or better yet, charge $5.00 a month so it costs them more to send you a statement than they make on the card purchases.

I Am Not Happy

I will continue to use my citibank card for the miles.*

OK, When I do get the card, I will still read the booklet for the special offerings and report back after due diligence.

For the record, Ohana, I don't see that you were wrong. You were just waiting for confirmation before making a judgement. Nothing wrong with that. It will serve you well more often than not.

Hmmm, so there are no "bonus" point opportunities? You know, earn "double dollars" on purchases made at x locations, or during certain timeframes?

Nope, not now. I am sure there will be something. I am going to call a friend at DC and let her know that once people find out the details, she will probably be inundated by calls from guests upset about feeling that they were lied to. They weren't lied to, but most people feel that this card was supposed to be a replacement for the DC, it isn't!

I will wait to stir the pot until I have the Welcome Package in-hand.

I received the Disney Insider email this morning (its at my home account, so I'll post the contents later )

They definitely say that there will be opportunities to earn extra dollars (specials, double, triple, etc). The one example they gave was that if you charge a Disney Cruise with DCL and your Disney Visa, they will issue you a $50 ship credit. Plus 6months no interest.

One thing I saw that did not make me smile was that the dollars could be used for "most" Disney merchandise. They specifically stated that the dollars could be used for Disney Store merchandise. That means that you can't use it at World of Disney in Downtown Disney or the shops in the parks??

I did call the application status number and I'll have my card in less than 10 days so we'll see........

Peace

OK, you can only get a maximum of DD750. Pap costs $800 for 2.
Double/Triple points on select vacations? That raises the discount from 1% to 3%, DC gave us 10. Even then, you have to book through them. The Math is not looking so good to me.
