Thank you so much to all who responded to my DVC question. I thought that this was something I very much wanted to do, but know I can't be sure until I get to DW in January and ask some questions, plus probably take a tour. I guess I didn't realize the yearly maintenance fees were so high. Also, I haven't heard from anyone if there is an up front amount required. I tried to us that site that allows you to plug in any given hotel to get a points needed total, but have had no luck with it. Site not reachable.

Not sure what you mean. If you are asking whether a purchase requires a down payment, yes it does. IIRC, this can be as little as 10%, less any special incentive deals they've got going at the time for the resort you are seeking. If you opt for a resale, the details of financing will vary according to the creditor you use. A resale broker can make suggestions and give more info.

If you don't have much of a down payment, consider carefully whether this is affordable for you. The loan payments (including interest & fees) plus maint fees can really add up.

There are two links to the points calculator that I can see. One's along the top of the wdwinfo.com home page and it sends you to: http://www.wdwinfo.com/dvc/dvcpoint.cfm This link does not work for me tonight.

The other is accessible by going to the DVC faq page and clicking on a link, which sends you to: http://www.wdwinfo.com/resort/dvcpoint.cfm This one does work for me tonight. :)

Hi Donna-

I'm trying to blow the cobwebs off my brain....I KNOW we put $1,000 down, and that MAY have been required. (it would make sense, it was 10% of a 150 point contract, so the 10% down that was mentioned before sounds right)

We bought direct through Disney.

Also, to answer your question about HOW to take a tour (I didn't see that one answered for you, so I apologize if it was)....if you are staying on Disney property there is a DVC desk in each lobby. There is also one in downtown Disney, and I know there is one in MGM as well. You can stop at a kiosk and they will either make an appointment for you or if you want to go right then and there, they will arrange that for you too.

Good luck!

I second the 1,000.00 down on a 150 point contract. That amount sounds oh so familiar.

As the new kid on the block, perhaps I can shed a little light.

We just completed our transaction Sunday. That would be YESTERDAY :bounce:

We bought 150 pts, the minimum, for 12K. (Two great incentives: beating the price increase in December, and getting this year's points to bank for next year!)

We only had to put down $500, which we charged to our Amex. The rest we are paying after I sell off some stock (this week), and that will also be charged to our Amex. (Membership Rewards points!!)

Our annual dues will be $600. About 20% of which, I think, is tax deductible (as property tax).

For a tour: the best place to go is the BoardWalk. They have the main offfices of DVC right there, and mock ups of all the rooms at BWI and BCV. Your next best bet would be to visit Beach Club Villas, right across the lake, which is also offering tours of ITS model rooms.

I'd suggest you try to do this sooner, rather than later. Our sales rep expects the BCV to be sold out very soon -- perhaps even by the end of this year.

I only put down a $500 deposit by check when I first purchased with a commitment to pay the remainder of the deposit when I sent them my pay stub and whatever other information they required for financing through them. Annmarie
