Disney Trivia....

Disneyland - Disney World - And Cedar point did a three way train swap in 1999!

Disneyland sent an engine to Disney World, Disney World sent an engine to Cedar Point, and Cedar Point sent an engine to Disneyland.

I can only find details on one of the engines, the one that was sent from Cedar Point to Anaheim.

She was built in 1902, and Cedar Point acquired her in 1962, totally rebuilt her, and she ran as the Maud L. until 1999 when Disneyland acquired her. She was totally rebuilt again and began running in 2005 as the Ward Kimball.

Wow......the Maud L. is sitting in front of the employee dorms, which can be seen while riding the Wild Cat (a.k.a the coaster with the breaks of death). :thumbsup2

This is resort related, but the Fort Wilderness Campground had its own railroad for many years in the 1970s. My first visits to WDW were always with my family in our RV, so we loved staying at FW (and still do!). And while I have no recollection of it, I have proof I rode it, at 18 months old in 1978. I'll have to find my baby-book and scan some of those pics.

Anyway, the train was dismantled due to several factors: 1.) The track was not properly laid, and the ties were not set in enough supporting fill (the area was mostly soggy wetland beforehand), so maintenance was a huge cost. 2.) The trains were pulled by actual steam engines, and some of the cast members who ran it were assigned just out of attractions, were not actual engineers. Thus, many times the engines were not filled properly with water and the trains had emergency stops in the middle of the route. 3.) The track was laid within a few feet of many campsites, with many street crossings. The train's whistle had to be blast at each crossing, but could be heard a mile away. Some folks complained about having a LOUD 7am wake-up!

The trains sat rotting for many years in storage, some lost forever, but one has since been restored offsite. Here's a link to more FWRR history. But if you look in the right places, you can still find some track today! (Here's a hint, you'll need to rent a canoe at the Bike Barn.)

Some of the passenger cars from that train were converted to the "ticket trollies" at Pleasure Island.:)

Last I saw, one was sitting in the parking lot of Typhoon Lagoon!

Hey do we have some train buffs here? Who wants to do a steam train tour behind the MK one morning?

I love this type of thing--lots of good ones here:thumbsup2 (though I would be happy if we left the corpses out of the discussion:rotfl2:)

As you walk through Liberty Square there is a ribbon of brownish sidewalk running down through the middle of the other pavement. This represents the "sewage" that was dumped directly into the streets from chamber pots at the time. Such a not Disney image:lmao:

Also, the building in the U.S. pavillion in EPCOT is unusaul in that it is scaled to look SMALLER than it really is.

Dh did it on our last trip down and LOVED it. Not my kind of thing, but he REALLY enjoyed it ( he is a train buff). And for a pin when he was finished. But what a time he had booking it. Most of the staff had no idea what it was, they kept wanting to send him to Behind the Seeds....no the Steam Trains. It was part language barrier, part a request that is seldom asked for.

When Disneyland first opened, there was a corset shop on Main Street, featuring a little show called the Wizard of Bras.

It was actually a ladies corset/undergarment shop named Hollywood Maxwell's not run by Disney. Hollywood Maxwell had the nickname "Wizard of Bras".

That "forest" is just down the road from me. My partner helped plant those trees.

My favorite piece of trivia...

In the TWO BROTHERS sequence at the American Adventure, the last slide you see is of a casket in front of a train station that says "Muller's Landing" with people mourning around it. It may look like an actual antique Civil War era photograph...BUT...

It is actually a bunch if Imagineers dressed in period costumes..AND...

The photo was taken at DISNEYLAND. If you are at the Frontierland/New Orleans Square station, look across the tracks at the old stations. That is where the photo was taken. They covered the "Frontierland" sign with Muller's Landing and did some other set dressing to make it look more real.

SOME MORE TRIVIA...

If you ride the Indiana Jones roller coaster at Disneyland Paris, there are only two people's names you can find referred to in the queue. One is (of course) Indiana Jones..the other is on a crate near the ride control console in the station. The name on that crate says "Prof. S. Arnold"

That is me.

Last I heard, it is fading away though.

John Lennon apparently signed a declaration ending the beatles as a band at the polynesian resort in 1974.

The Sierra Tower at the Disneyland hotel was originally half as long as it is today. You can see in old photos that only the right side was there in '61 and the left side was built later that decade.

You never told me that!

On "The Great Movie Ride", there are several "hidden characters". In the Raiders of the Lost Ark scene, check out the hyrogliphics (sp?) on the left wall. Since George Lucas co-wrote that movie, the Imagineers gave him a tribute with egyptian-style R2D2 and C3P0 hidden in the images!
