Can someone please clarify Disney's rules on bringing tripods into the park? Can't seem to find anywhere the exact rules. TIA

The tripod must fit inside a backpack when collapsed. Not sure about size when open but as little as room as possible is always best.

Does the tripod have to actually be in the backpack though?

I've got a MeFoto Roadtrip tripod. When collapsed it's 15" tall and about 4" wide. The day or two I might bring in into the park I'll probably have my LowePro Flipside 300 bag, which the tripod can be attached to, but it's on the outside of the bag.

The tripod also comes with a shoulder bag that I could also use it that makes any difference. I actually might prefer this over the backpack, because I honestly don't like how it attaches to the LowePro bag. Also, on most days we will likely have a stroller and the tripod could probably be stored under the seat if that would make any difference.

Probably not. But it's hard to say if you'll encounter a CM at bag search who wants to be a little "by the book" with the rules. I had no trouble at all bringing my small tripod bag through on its own at DLR last fall.

Thanks mom2rtk! Never had an issue with it on our visits in 2011 and 2013, but when I read it must fit in a backpack it got me a little nervous. Since I'll probably just bring it to parks only a day or two, I'll probably bring it with the tripod bag and store it under the stroller seat, if we bring the stroller. With summer crowds I just don't feel comfortable with how it attaches to the back of my camera bag.

I also understand how CMs can very on how strict they want to be. If for some reason they wouldn't allow me to bring it in, they should allow me to store it in a locker, correct?

I don't think there are lockers outside the security perimeter. At least not at the MK. So if they turn you away, you would have to return it to your room or car. Not sure if they would maybe hold it in guest services for you. But I really don't think it will be an issue. I watch for reports of tripod issues and haven't heard any of late.

Thanks again mom2rtk. Have always found your posts in the photography board very useful and informative over the years. It's funny, when I started coming back to the DISboards, a few months ago, I ran across some of you posts and remembered your user name and some of the great photos you posted, especially of you and your daughter. When I looked at the photo in your footer I thought that I must have been thinking of someone else because the girl in the photo looked so much older. It's amazing how quickly kids age. Looking back at pictures of my nieces from our last WDW trip, it's amazing how much they have changed.

One more quick question, what has happened to the DISboard photography forum? I remember it being so much more active, has it been this way for awhile? Have people moved on to a different forum?

Thanks so much for the kind words. :goodvibes

I haven't figured out yet how to slow down that growing up process. That little girl is 16 now. We still enjoy Disney a lot, just in different ways than before. It's all gone way too fast.

I agree that the photography forum is a lot less active than it used to be. I miss the posters who are gone, but know that there is still a handful of really helpful posters, so I never hesitate to ask my questions here.

I imagine the DLP rules will perhaps be different to the WDW rules, but I took a tripod in a softcase on my back to the DLP parks two weeks ago. It's about half a meter when collapsed - I didn't have any problems getting in.
