Got a phone call this morning!!!!! The disney Resort Travel is asking AKL residents to move hotels, voluntary!!!!!
We are going July 7- 14th!!! They are asking us to move to Sarratoga springs at a discount and that will give us $600 back to us!
My thought is we have a savvanah view room and we have 3 kids 6yr, 3yr and a son whom is turning 1 on the trip!
Then I called the actual hotel. They will only have 3rd floor savannah view open!!! Floors 4, 5 and 6 are closed!!
Let them know I would call back today! Geesh we booked our trip last september and it is 17 days before we go!
What should we do? Help? Let them know I would call them back.
What other hotel should we stay at! We wanted to stay there for the experience. Anyone just there that saw the consturction! HELP!!

wow I am sorry. I have heard this was going to happen because of the construction. It will also be effecting other deluxe resorts. What kind of room are they offering at SSR? A one bedroom?
I would ask for a better resort, not that SSR is bad but they are moving you. I would be looking for something else WL maybe close to the MK. Where are all your ADRS? Maybe beach club or yacht vlub they are great and have stormalong bay.

A one-bedroom at SSR in the Grandstand section could be phenomenal.

I just don't want to feel disapointted that they are moving us to somewhere we never planned to be. We booked last sept. anyone know what would make it worth our while to move. did not want sarratoga springs! Was not very kid happy for 3 kids under 6!
ALso they will only move us where there is an availability! oh and they will discount rooms! Where is there an avail at 17 days out!
what is ADRS?

Since you have 5 are they offering you a 1 bdrm? If so take the 1 bdrm, you will have a full kitchen which will come in handy with small kids, and a washer/dryer. Take the money you are saving and either plan something really special to do on the trip or put the money away to save for your next trip (to stay at AKL once the construction is over!).
I know you are disappointed but the DVC rooms are very nice.

You can still have a great time. :thumbsup2
You can walk to DTD and there is also a boat to DTD. The pool area is nice there as well. Take the $ and book a fireworks cruise or just save it towards another trip. Good Luck.

Hey Lori,
Ok this is one of those "when life hands you lemons-make lemonaide" times. I'm assuming they are moving you because of construction so let's go with maybe you dodged a bullet. You wouldn't want to be there and be miserable due to banging, sawing and hamering. I know you are really disappointed though, no matter where you go-it's not what you have been looking forward to for 9 months.
Anyway. Call back and ask what's available. I love, love, love WL (and next to AKL it's probably the next best themed) but I gotta tell you with 3 kids under the age of 6, a 1 bedroom villa is seriously great. Tons of space along with the convenience of a full kitchen with washer and dryer. SSR has gotten some great reviews. My main issue would be transportation to MK.

I agree. Take the $$ and do something special. See if they can help you add a special dining reservation to your vacation if you can. Buy the kids a great keepsake from the trip.

Have you looked at the info on SSR ? http://www.allearsnet.com/acc/faq_ss.htm

ok, went to the website to see what is avail when we go!!
there is the Grand Floridian, Polynesian and the villas at wilderness lodge..
my husband hates camping so the forts are out!

what do you all think of those hotels

We love the Poly. Stayed there before and really enjoyed it. Havent stayed at WL yet but I really want to. Why not ask if they can give you a good rate on a 1 bdrm at VWL? That way you get the great theming, a great room and you are close to MK. Just hop a boat over there.

I know you don't think you want SSR, but I think this is the best choice. I would also recommend the cabins at FW, they are not camping, have a full kitchen including oven, microwave, and dishwasher.

I think an upgrade to a DVC is a lot better than 3 kids in any hotel room.

I will call back and see about GF,POL or the villas at wilderness. the transportation with the SSR is the main issue.
also called the AKL direct and they said noise will be from 9am to 5pm.
will have to call reservation back and see.
what type of rooms at the others do you recommend?
Lori

You can so no thank you, plese find another guest to move. The danger is you could still get moved when you check in. You might wish you had accepted the offer if the construction is noisy or otherwise intrusive.

The Poly is wonderful. New rooms, great places to eat and wonderful transporation. I also love the GF. We are staying there again in less than 2 weeks. The rooms are large, great pools, places to eat. I dont think you can go wrong with either.

If you are interested in VWL try get a 1 bedroom there. Your close to the MK, great places to eat at the WL, cool pools.

Call them back and see what they say, tell you have 2 choices and see if they will work with you.

at the Poly there are buildings around the main building. There are many great choices. I have only stayed at the Hawaii building at the Poly and thats concierge. I know the GF is rehabbing the buildings one by one and the news on the GF thread is that one is done. They said building 5 is complete I think they said it was Sago.

OMG - take the 1 bedroom - did you realize you will have a separate master suite with your own tv and access to a deck away from the children, including a whirlpool tub?! Plus, there is a laundry room right in your villa for free, and the kids will have a dvd player and free movies to rent at the community hall (they have lots to do there for kids as well). It's also a short walk to Downtown Disney, the pool there is great (has water slide), and they have movies for free every night by the pool (Disney ones). Give it a try, SSR is beautiful, and if you're concerned about transportation, just make sure you get a room closest to one of the bus stops when you check in - you'll love it there!

just spoke with hubby and the ssr is OUT! he says he does not care about washer/dryer kitchen etc! He thinks we should go for the GF,POLY,VWL. If they say no, they say no. He is going to talk with a co-worker that was just there at disney and then get back to me. I think closer to the MK is better! and only option!
Lori

My favorite resorts are AKL, WL and Poly, so of course, if I had a choice for a discount at WL or Poly, I'd jump on it.

Having a full kitchen would be alot less important to me, when I'm on vacation, there's no cooking going on. The WL and Poly have refrigerators and that works for me. But you may need to warm milk for bottles, maybe?

The WL building is very similar to AKL building, they were both designed by the same architect. Did you have a deluxe bunkbed room at the AKL? They have the same setup available at the WL (1 queen bed, a set of bunkbeds). The room size will be very similar as the room size at AKL. WL is a MK-resort, which is nice if you will be spending alot of time at MK. It isn't on the monorail, but does have a nice boat ride over to the MK. And the lighted boat parade does float on by in the evening, which is great for little kids, although, it may run too late in the evening for your age children.

The Poly is also a MK-resort, but it has more added plusses (IMHO) than the WL. One is the monorail to the MK and to TTC. (And there is also a boat to the MK). Another is the rooms are huge compared to either of the lodges. And the lighted boat parade comes by at 9pm, so if the kids can stay up until 9pm, they'd get to see it. (We stayed there when my kids were 7, 5, and 3, and they could make it until 9pm to see the parade, we went out to watch with them in their PJs, it was great!). You can watch the fireworks from the beach, which is also very nice. One complaint I've heard from parents with young children was some longhouses don't have an elevator. One year we stayed in the small longhouse right next to the GCH, and I don't think it had an elevator, we were on the second floor, but we just carried the strollers down the steps. (We had 2 umbrella strollers, so not a big deal to us).

Looks like Disney is really pushing Saratoga Springs, huh? Others recently got upgraded from Pop to SSR or OKW (for free!). I hope you get a sweet deal. :-)
