Three days until we start our first ever visit to WDW! Hoping someone can help us out with this question...

We are staying at the POFQ and have made three of our ADRs at restaurants located at other resorts (thanks to feedback from many posters here) and are interested in how the Disney Transportation works: would we have to take a bus to a theme park and then transfer, etc?

The ADRs are for Boma, Kona and Spoodles.

Any/all input will be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance and awaiting insightful responses :surfweb:

Most Hotel restaurants can only be accessed through a visit to a park location, the TTC, or DTD. The only ones that really don't are the ones that are on the Monorail route, or the Beach Club/Yacht Club and Boardwalk which can be accessed by either walking around the boardwalk or taking the ferries across the lake(also Swan and Dolphin can be accessed this way too).

So, if you are going from POFQ to Boma, you'd take the bus to Downtown Disney and then take the bus from DTD to AKL and of course, BOMA is downstairs at AKL (good choice, by the way :thumbsup2 )
If you are going from POFQ to Kona, you'd take the bus to MK and then hop the monorail to the Polynesian Hotel and Kona is right there....
If you are going from POFQ to Spoodles, you can again take the DTD bus to the Boardwalk area hotels and then walk the Boardwalk to Spoodles.
If you are in any park, you'd take the bus/monorail directly to the hotel where the restaurant is... or in the case of Spoodles, you'd go to the Boardwalk area... You can walk to Spoodles from Epcot.

Thank you, and Wendy1953, for the quick replies. That relieves me and will be very helpful. :goodvibes

The TTC is not a transfer spot for resorts anymore...really for many years with a couple of exceptions...so don't do that.

I would use any park to transfer to a resort bus before using DTD as a transfer point. Too many stops and too many lights there plus you are backtracking. After the parks close, DTD is the only option.

To get to Kona, do what Ms. Mouse suggested except be sure to get on the resort monorail not the express.

Unfortunately, I havn't use it , yet. But I will be in Aug! I hope it works! Any thing to cut down on any "wasted" time Traveling, etc. :thumbsup2

Interesting site. I wonder if anyone has used this calculator and how accurate it was for them.

tkitty - if you have used this calculator how close was it to real time?

Be very cautious using the site. It is out of date and shows routes that no longer exist (e.g. bus between TTC and DTD).

Make sure you allow enough time to get to the resort for dinner. I would allow AT LEAST an 60 to 90 minutes to get to a park and then to another resort.

The easiest way to get to the resorts is by taxi. A taxi will drop you right at the resort without lots of waiting in the heat for a bus.

We stayed at the BWI and used a taxi to get to other resort restaurant. The taxi avg. about $10 including tip for most of the trips. We tried to make a ressie at Cali and allowed only an hour and it was too close for comfort.

Disney transportation is not set up that well to get people from their resort to another resort. It is set up to get people from their resort to one of the parks. The most effiecient way other than taking your own car would be to take a cab from POFQ to the AKL, POLY and BW.

Yes, you have to be careful or you'll be riding buses all over the place.... That's why we always hit a bus from a park or go to DTD and get a bus to the resort area from there.

When all is said and done, this may very well be our best option on one or more trips to our restaurant of the day. We have like four ADRs at Epcot, but are not planning to be at Epcot four out of our ten days visiting. All of our dinner ADRs are during the "typical" dinner hours: 4:30pm to 6:00pm; so transportation could potentially be hectic during those time frames. I may have to pay close attention to this aspect of our trip, making mental notes, so as to assist others who may pose this question down the road.

No young children to fuss with either, so that should help. Then again, a sixteen year old boy could be a problem too. LOL

I truely appreciate all of your input!

Actually, transportation at those hours shouldn't be too bad with the possible exception of AK since it usually closes at 5 or 6. The other parks are usually still open (Epcot always so) and transportation will be running but normally you won't be dealing with crowds from park closing.

At least you know you will not have to deal with DTD at that hour.

But it does help to know park hours when you plan transportation routes.

We never cab but almost always drive to other resorts to dine.

Happy planning. :sunny:

I would stop by the guest services at Port Orleans and ask them to call me a taxi. This works especially well at Port Orleans because a Taxi stand is just on the backside of the main parking lot in front of the resort. Last time I asked for a taxi at the French Quarter it took about two minutes for the cab to pull up at the front enterance.

After my meal, I would use the monorail or a bus, as other have advised, taking my good old time to get back to my resort.

Enjoy.

POFQ > Boma: First bus that comes to any park, then switch to AKL bus.
POFQ > Kona: Bus to MK, then monorail or launch to Polynesian; OR First bus that comes to any park then switch to Poly bus.
POFQ > Spoodles: Bus to MGM then walk to Spoodles or boat to Boardwalk; or First bus that comes to any park then bus to Boardwalk.

Yes.

Or you could pay to take a cab and save lots of time and hassle!
