I'm clueless as to how to get around Disney. Is there somewhere I can go that will tell me the best way (bus, boat or monorail) to get from point a to point b and how long it will take? We'll be in Disney September 3rd - 12th if that affects any of the travel methods.

I've tried searching but haven't had much luck finding what I'm looking for.

A map of Disney as a whole would also be helpful for determinging where things are.

Thanks!

The Disney website will have a complete map with the layout fpr locations for each of the resorts and parks. You can also order customized maps that you decide what goes on them for free. Depending on which park determines the transportation options. Some have monorails connecting them, boats or just busses. Someone here has a link to some transportation routes and timing, but my understanding it is fairly old and dated. If you have some specific questions for ADRs or what not someone here can certainly give you some guidance.

Where are you staying? That will have an impact on the transportation mode.
If you are staying at a value resort, there are buses to all of the parks and DTD. The bus stops are out front past the lobby and there are queues set up for each park and they are clearly marked.
For all of the moderates, buses are the transportation mode to the parks and DTD as well, except the the POR and POFQ have a boat to DTD, there is also a bus but the boat ride is nice.
If you are staying at the AKL, the mode of transportation to the parks and DTD are buses.
The GF, CR and the Poly have buses to DHS, and AK to get to Epcot you need to take the monorail to the Ticket and Transportation center and then the Epcot monorail from there. In order to get to the MK you can take the monorail from each or if you are staying at the GF or the Poly there is also boat transportation to the MK. If you are staying at the CR you can walk to the MK, its really a quick walk.
The WL has buses to all of the parks and also has a boat that goes to the MK.
The Epcot resorts, YC, BC, BWI and the Swan and Dolphin have buses that go to the MK and AK, to get to Epcot you can walk or take a boat.
The DVC resorts, SSR, OKW have buses to the parks and DTD and there is also a boat to DTD.
Fort Wilderness has buses that go to the parks, except for the MK, you need to take a boat from FW to the MK.
There are no buses that go from resort to resort. There are no buses that go from the parks to DTD. There are buses that go from each of the parks to another park, except for the MK where you have to go to the Ticket and Transportation center by monorail or boat and then take a bus to the other parks or the monorail to Epcot. The same is when you leave other parks to get to the MK you must take a bus to the TTC, or if leaving from Epcot take the monorail to the TTC and then take the boat or monorail over to the MK.
I've probably left out a few things but this covers most that I can recall
Generally the buses leave the resorts or parks about every 15 to 20 minutes.

You're already at one of the best places to get the info you need!!! Tell us where you need to get to, and from where, and we'll tell you how to do it. We love nothing better than talking about the best ways to get from point A to point B at WDW!!!! Come on....let us shine!!

Thank you so much. I will put together a list tonight and will post it.

That is really kid...and the help would be very much apprciated.

And as for where we're staying...it's Pop Century.

One of my top 5 gripes with the Disney website is the utter lack of useful transportation information. It's pretty ridiculous how difficult it is to get just basic "How do I get there" info off that site.

Fortunately, the DIS is the best place of all for transportation info, as you can tell by the above posts.

I will add a very brief synopsis of transportation info:

- In general, if you want to go from one resort to another, you need to get to a park and then transfer to get to the other resort. There are numerous exceptions to this, but above posters have detailed many of them.

- There is park-to-park transportation, whether it's buses, boats or monorail trains. One caveat is that park-to-MK transportation drops you off at the TTC, which means getting on some other transportation to get to MK itself. Again, this was mentioned above.

- There are three separate monorail lines: the resort loop, the TTC-MK line and the TTC-EPCOT line. The only stop all three lines have in common is the TTC. A transfer is required to switch lines.

- Sometimes at MK-area resorts, it's faster to take boats to or from MK, depending on how many stops away from MK they are on the resort monorail line. If you look at a map of MK-area resorts, just keep in mind that the resort monorail moves in a clockwise direction, and this will tell you the order of stops, but if you can remember it better, it is: TTC, the Poly (also within walking distance of the TTC), GF, MK, CR and back to TTC.

- There are boats going between MK, WL and FW, in addition to buses.

The previous poster is right...sometimes Disney makes it hard to figure out, before you arrive, how to get around.
But...it is really very easy once you get there and see the setup.
From POP, you will take a bus to each park...there will be a bus to each park, at it's own bus stop, at POP. When you are ready to leave the park, you will return to the POP bus stop..which will be marked.
Easy. We can give you more concise info when you give us your list.

I am sort of hijacking this thread here..sorry..But I was also wondering about this. We are going in September for 10 days and was wondering the easiest ways from one place to another? I would feel bad putting my whole list down, but could I possibly list the ones that aren't so obivious to me for some help too? TIA if you would be able to help me!

List away! I'm glad to help however I can.

I found the first two years I was down there, it was very daunting. Now, I actually do something different each year as I get used to the different types of transportation when I go. There are all kinds of really neat things that you can do. It is especially nice when I go down because of the xmas decorations are everywhere. I have figured out some really neat ways to get around to the resorts that take some time, but turn out to be really relaxing. My new fav is to take the ferry from MK to WL; have dinner and tour the pool area; then take the bus back to DTD, and ride the water taxi back to my resort at POR.

I also love the loop with the monorail too.

Are you kidding?!?

Everyone on the transportation board lives for this kind of stuff!

:goodvibes List away...

Thanks for the link..what a great site:thumbsup2

With respects, I wouldn't use that site. It's very outdated, has sometimes wrong info, leaves out available modes in some cases and lists non-existent modes in others. It's better to ask specific transportation questions on here and get them answered.

ok so i have a question about how late the buses ( or other transportation) run after the parks close. im staying at the ASMu , the parks close farley early in sept when we will be there. what if i wanna go watch the fireworks at the beach and then wonder around the resort and see everything lit up at night. how long can i do that safely without worry of having missed a bus back to my resort

Here are a couple that I am curious about finding the fastest way:

CBR to Poly for an 8:30 ADR at 'Ohana (bus to MK then monorail to Poly?)
DHS to Contemporary for CM Lunch (any way other than bus?)
Contemporary to CBR after lunch (walk/monorail to MK then bus?)
CBR to Fort Wilderness for the Campfire thing (not a clue)

Ok here is my list. I feel so dumb at times..lol..I know some of these are probably obvious!

1. Epcot to DTD (In particular Rainforest Cafe for part of our group and Planet Hollywood for the other)

2. Magic Kingdom to Chef Mickey's and back to Magic Kingdom

3. Animal Kingdom to Epcot

4. Magic Kingdom to Epcot

5. Epcot to Animal Kingdom to Magic Kingdom

6. Hollywood Studios to Winter Summerland Miniature Golf Course then to Downtown Disney (Disney Quest)

And my mornings we will be starting off at POP. So in order to get to any of the parks or DTD I can just take a marked bus? Thanks so much for anyone who wants to help out!

I used to work in Disney busses and give me a little bit and I ll post something that will be easier to read and figure out for on property. In the mean time Ill answer your questions:

CBR to Poly. You didnt mention am or pm. However. Fastest way would be bus to DHS then transfer to Poly bus or option 2 bus to MK then resort monorail.

DHS to Contemp. Bus or taxi.

Contemp to CBR fastest way is walk to MK then bus to CBR. Option 2, bus to DHS from Contemp, then transfer busses to CBR.

CBR to Ft. Wilderness. Fastest way is bus to DHS, then transfer to the Wilderness Lodge bus. At the lodge transfer to the Boone or Crockett (they both do the entore Fort)Option 2 is the Ft Wilderness bus.I believe they drop off at where the Hoop De Doo is,(cant think of what the name is off hand) then youll have to transfer again to get to the trading post where the campfire actually is.

Same message as above:

1. Epcot to DTD (In particular Rainforest Cafe for part of our group and Planet Hollywood for the other)
Go out the back of Epcot at the International Gateway,to the resort boats, get off at the first resort(Swan Dolphin, Yacht, Beach, or Boardwalk, then transfer to the DTD bus.
Option 2, go to the bus lot, find the first bus in the loadzone, get off at the first stop, then transfer. OKW, or Saratoga Springs are the closest resorts to DTD.Get off at the Marketplace stop.

2. Magic Kingdom to Chef Mickey's and back to Magic Kingdom
Take the resort launch from the park, to the Comtemporary, then take the resort monorail back. The resort monorail goes from the Comtemporary to the Mk then to Grand Flo.
Option 2. Walk to the Contemp then take the monorail back.

3. Animal Kingdom to Epcot

Direct bus both ways.

4. Magic Kingdom to Epcot
2 ways.Express Monorail to TTC Then transfer to the Epcot monorail.
Option 2. Take a bus to the CBR then transfer to Epcot bus.

5. Epcot to Animal Kingdom to Magic Kingdom
Direct bus from Epcot, to AK. From AK, take a resort bus to one of the MK resorts, (MK Poly or Grand Flo, then monrail)
Option 2, same as above except going from AK to MK, take the bus to TTC, then take the monrail.

6. Hollywood Studios to Winter Summerland Miniature Golf Course then to Downtown Disney (Disney Quest)

DHS to WS. Take the All Star bus. I think they still hit WS on the way.If not, go to Coronado Springs then transfer to the BB bus.
I cant swear to it, but I think that there is a bus from DHS that stops there on its way to Epcot or AK also.

When you are at your resort, there is a marked bus, for each of the parks, and DTD, and both waterparks.

Great info!!!!!

I am also new to the Disney trans..............

I found this place useful...........

http://www.ourlaughingplace.com/asp/twiz.aspx

It gives a rough estimate on xfers using Disney....
Several of us have emailed that particular site to ask that it be updated...it hasn't been. It is okay for rough guesstimates, but double check here first..otherwise you could find yourself trying to follow an outdated route, or one that no longer exists.

The buses run for up to two hours after the park closes. Monorails run a slightly shorter time..same with the boats.

Here are a couple that I am curious about finding the fastest way:

CBR to Poly for an 8:30 ADR at 'Ohana (bus to MK then monorail to Poly?)
DHS to Contemporary for CM Lunch (any way other than bus?)

CBR to Fort Wilderness for the Campfire thing (not a clue)
CBR to Polynesian....Early bus to MK, then either the boat or monorail to Polynesian.
DHS to CR...bus
CR to CBR..walk to MK, then bus to CBR
CBR to FtW....bus to MK, then bus to Ft.W (or the boat..not sure where the campfire is at FtW)

Ok here is my list. I feel so dumb at times..lol..I know some of these are probably obvious!

1. No buses run from parks to DTD...you will have to go to a resort and get their bus...BC or BW would be quickest.

2. walk. the sidewalk runs right underneath the monorail line...takes about 8 mins.

3. bus

4. monorail or boat to TTC, monorail to Epcot

5. bus from Epcot to AK, then bus to CR and walk to MK from CR

6. bus to AK (I believe Winter/Summerland are on the same route). Bus to the first resort that comes along..then switch to the DTD bus from that resort.

Yes, there will be a marked bus stop for each park and DTD at POP.

Here's my list...and a huge thank you in advance for taking the time to help me out!

WL to FW (for campfire) then FW to Pop

Beach Club to Pop

Pop to the Poly (9:25am ADR)

Pop to Contemporary (7:20 am ADR).

Pop to GF (Pirate Adventure 9:30am) then GF to DtD

To get to DtD from each park?

I think that's it...thanks again!
