Hi

We will be at WDW very soon now and DW has arranged a ECV rental
due to her RA (does not use one when at home). On past visit to WDW she has used a ECV but finds it very awkward to reverse the thing onto the buses and can be off putting with crowds waiting to alight. Any suggestions that may help :confused3

Practice backing up.
Ignore the other people.
Let somebody else in your party get the ECV on the bus for her (again, requires ignoring the other people and their comments).
Wait for "ramp" buses as opposed to "lift" buses.

I feel her pain! I have issues that have required me to use an ECV in the past, but have always had someone to get it on the bus for me. This year, it will be me, my 88 year old grandma (who will be using a regular wheelchair), my mom (who will be pushing grandma), and my 8 year old daughter. I will have to get it done myself this year and am very nervous. I was going to try to walk this year since we would be going at a slower pace and taking many rests with my grandma, but I broke my leg and my doctor says absolutely not without a wheelchair.

My DD would load and unload the ECV I was using, she practiced backing up for the bus ramp by backing up into the resort room. Only time she had a problem is when the bus driver told her to just drive onto the bus going forward. Ignore them if they say that, backing up is easier for parking it on the bus.

Also your speed can be an issue. I found that with mine I have to give it a little more power to get up on the ramp and then immediatly turn the speed back to its lowest speed. If I didn't do this the scooter got stuck trying to get on the ramp.

we just returned home, i used one on our trip that we rented off-site. other than bumping in to the walls in the bathroom a few times i was fine backing it up.
