What's the best website for purchasing Disney trading pins? I want to give each of my DD's some pins for trading on our next trip, but don't want to spend a lot of money on them since they'll just be traded away. Any suggestions? :confused3 Thanks.

Right now Disney Store has sets of Up pins for $6.00 - http://www.disneystore.com/pins-disney-up-pin-set-3-pc/p/1260541/309800/
That averages out to be $2/pin, which is about as cheap as it gets.

Other than that, you can always try ebay. Read this thread to make sure you don't buy scraper pins: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2213419

And lastly, we have a Disney Outlet store. It sells pins for $2.99-$5.99. I'm not sure if all Disney stores carry pins now, or just the Disney Outlet store as we no longer have a regular store, but you may want to look there.

Yes, please try to read the super thread on the Collector's Board (posted above or in my signature) before turning to eBay. eBay is flooded with people selling scrappers (fake pins) so we have a great thread to help other's find good sellers on eBay. :) Otherwise booster packs on Disneyshopping.com will be a great way to get her traders, you can get pins she won't like so she will want to trade them away. :)

Thanks everyone. I looked on the disneystore.com site, and there are a couple of sets that look like they're just what I wanted. Thanks for your help.

I hope I'm not too late but ebay is hands down the best place to purchase pins. I'm going to go out on a limb here, as I know the collectors are funny about this, but look for good feedback, and all those pins you buy on ebay for less than a dollar are completely tradeable at the parks.

Unfortunately this is bad advice. Yes please do look at FB but also know that FB is not always accurate. For instance when we first started trading we had no knowledge of scrappers, so I bought a lot of 100 pins for like $200, so about $2 per pin. We traded them with little problems but I did note that some of the CM's were putting pins from us into their pockets instead of on their lanyards. I didn't know why they would do that so I asked one, she said "well I don't feel this pin is legit, I believe it's actually a scrapper and I don't want to hand it off to someone else. If it's OK it will be reloaded onto the lanyard after my shift but for now I'll just keep it here". I had NO clue what scrappers were, I used the seller based on FB and felt confident in my purchase. Unfortunately I was wrong, the CM was able to give me a lot of info on scrappers and we came to realize that all the pins we had been trading were likely scrappers. :( I was quite upset and we went pin shopping that day to finish our trip with actual Disney pins. But if someone doesn't know what scrappers are then FB won't help. This is why I suggest using the link in my signature, there are a few of us who have done a lot of personal research on this exact subject and that thread gives a lot of information on eBay, scrappers, trading etc etc. So please do look at FB but please also use the link and read the thread, it is long and a few people do get snarky on it but it is definitely worth checking it out. :)

bottom line, the CM's will trade for scrappers but IMO it's really not the right thing to do. And yes, we do pin trade and we do collect but for us it's more about the pin itself and not so much the legitimacy of the pin, but it really sucks to do a trade you think is good and then to find out what you got is a scrapper. :)

I don't know why I always end up in scrapper discussions, but here is my experience with pin trading. First of all, I want to say, I don't pin trade, my kids do, they don't know or care what a scrapper is or what one would even look like. I bought a 100 pin lot of ebay, yes, for around .85 cents each and probably from one of your red or yellow sellers.

The pins arrived safely and promptly, nothing fantastic, but good basic trader pins. They were not discolored or damaged or anything that I could tell. Now I'm not going to take a loupe and look at them, but from the naked eye they looked fine. So we go to the parks, from Downtown Disney to Animal Kingdom where they traded with a gentleman that had a jacket full of pins who had been trading for 10 years. At no time did anyone comment, put a pin in their pocket or even notice that these pins were what you call "scrappers." This is one of those disboard paranoid fabrications, such as, you'll get kicked out of your hotel for using an old refillable mug.

The reason I'm taking the time to even type this is that what you say happens and how sensitive everyone is about these little pieces of metal is ridiculous for the casual pin trader whose 5 or 6 year old wants to trade some pins. Hate to say it, but very few of these pins have any real serious value. Someone comes on here and asks a question on how to get some cheap pins and they are presented with this list that they "must" choose from or they are a criminal.

Wow, didn't know my simple question was going to become so complicated! :rotfl: Thank you to everyone for your advice. I will certainly try to stay away from the "scrappers." My DD's (who are 10 and 13) probably wouldn't care if they received one, but I'd hate to have them unknowingly trade them to someone who only wants "genuine" Disney pins. I'm going to check out EBay and try to stick to the "green" sellers. Thanks again to everyone for their help. DDs really enjoyed pin trading during our 2008. They have several pins, but they are all ones they like and don't want to trade away, so I just want to get a few for each of them for our surprise December trip (they don't know we're going yet, and I don't plan on telling them until the morning we leave! :cool1: ).

It is NOT a disboard paranoid fabrication. If you go to a pin trading board, they talk about and are against scrappers as well. Pin trading is a serious hobby for some people and they spend a lot of their hard earned money to collect authentic pins so its natural that intentionally spreading fakes would be upsetting to them.
