Disney to Universal

[Disney Chick2]

My mom and her sister are going to stay at the Contemporary, but want to go to Universal for a day. I'd love to hear safe and easy suggestions for them to get there. Renting a car won't work, I fear they'd be lost for day.

We're going to go to City Walk for lunch one day, so I've researched this quite extensively. Here are your options:

Mears shuttle - About $12 pp RT - you have to call 2 hours before coming back so you know what time pick up is.

Taxi - about $45-55

Town Car service - anywhere from $50-70 RT, not incl. gratuity - just schedule as you do from the airport, telling what hotel to pick up from and where return pick up is - you can also specify your times, so if they know how long they are going to be there, they can do that.

LYNX bus system - $1.25 pp each way. Pick up in the morning at TTC around 8:48, get a transfer ticket when you pay, then transfer two times (for a total of 3 buses, not incl. Disney's) before you get to Universal Studios. I have an email from LYNX letting you know the times for going - it takes about 1 hour 25 minutes, not including your time getting to TTC.

Each of my last three trips, I've gone from Disney (Wilderness Lodge) over to Universal/IOA for a day, and I can tell you it's really quite simple. I relied on the folks at Mears, and it was great. I called the day before, and they asked what hotel I was staying at and let me know about what time they'd be there. Both times, they arrived within about 15 minutes of the scheduled time. We then went to a couple other resorts, picked up guests, and tracked on over to Universal.

As I approached the end of the day, I called Mears again, telling them, "Take me home!" and they gave me a time and a gate number to be at. It was really very, very simple, comfortable and inexpensive. In fact, I'm planning to do it again during my Disney trip this year (nov. 29-Dec. 6).

It really costs $50 for a taxi to get to Universal? Is that round trip?

We're staying at an offsite hotel on 192 by Old Town. Is it still going to cost that much?

Will the Mears shuttle pick us up at an offisite hotel? I'm unfamiliar with the service. Any info will be much appreciated!!

is it that hard to drive from WDW to Universal if you have your own car/rental?

a group of 5 ppl on mears would be $60

is there anybody that doesnt "leave the driving to us?"

It's very easy to drive from Disney to Universal. If you have a car that is the best way to get there. Just head out of Disney onto I-4 (North or East--I don't recall which direction). Follow the signs from I-4 for Universal. Without traffic on the interstate it takes about 15 minutes.

It's I-4 East. And it is very easy...Universal has it's own exit.
