Disney To Serve Healthier Food

YES...JUST WALK ON BY CASEYS---nothing like a HOT DOG and FRIES and COKE :drinking1 ,,while watching the FIREWORKS,,, :thumbsup2

I'm glad they are changing to non-hydrogenated oil. And offering healthier items. After a few days, the standard junk food is just kind of nasty. And soda is just liquid candy. I love having other drink options.

As long as I can still get my junk food, I'm cool with them having healthy options. I like Conservative Hippie's idea of doing like Wendy's, where you have lots of options for sides - some healthy, some not.

Yes! I agree. I actually like eating healthy foods. I love veggies, fruits, nuts, fish, etc. But, when on vacation, I also like trying new foods. Exciting foods. But the way that Disney has implemented the New and Improved Super Healthy Kids Meals is pathetic. Does eating healthy mean the same choices day after day after day? And milk at every meal? Should be fun during those 100 degree July days  I really think Disney dropped the ball on this one. So it does scare me a bit if they are even thinking about "new and improved" menus for adults.

Change the frying oil (I am surprised this wasn't already done), throw in some healthier side dishes (do not remove the old, fat filled ones :teeth: ) and stop insulting parents who may want to allow their children to eat "sometimes foods" while on vacation.

Yes--People do have the choice to go off property to eat. Disney may be shocked at the amount of people doing just that.

The thing that stood out to me was the child's portion being cut...but I am sure the price won't reflect the change!

I am not really sure how the portion even are on the kid's menu because DD and I usually split an adult portion. She's not a big fan of chicken strips or PB&Js. The kid's menu has really only appealed to her at a resort's food court (something like child's spaghetti or whatever).

But like other's say, Just don't touch the Mickey Bars (or Ohana's menu and dessert!!).

If you don't like the thought of these changes or the current changes to the childrens menu, email or write Disney about it! Just posting here isn't going to do as much good, but if those who have an opinion let them know, then perhapse it can have an effect.

I have already emailed them about the children's menu and it's lack of options, plus the forced nature of it. Many people from the food boards are doing the same.

So if you have an opinion, maybe you should let Disney hear it =)

I have to admit that this whole "Food Police" trend has me nervous. I don't want the government or anyone else making my food choices for me. I don't have children, but I wouldn't want anyone else making choices for my child if I had one. That would be my responsibility as a parent.
I choose to eat healthy most of the time at home, so that when I go on vacation I can live large. That's part of the fun for me, eating desserts I would NEVER have, eating a big ole' steak in Canada or a Mickey Ice Cream Sandwich in MK.
I realize that obesity in children is a serious issue, but eliminating choices is not the way to respond. We all need to be taught how to eat healthier, not by removing (or taxing) "bad" choices, but by learning to balance healthy food and exercise with the fun stuff.

What about the so called "forced option" to just eat junk food before? What's the diff?

I think there needs to be more creativity in all choices. "Healthy" shouldn't always be trans-fat free chicken nuggets with carrots and plain applesauce. How about more creative, healthy, tasty choices? (And not everything has to be healthy - it's good to be moderate in food, and I do eat some junk!)

I mentioned elsewhere that I'd love to see an Earl of Sandwich in each park. They have healthy choices, some not-so healthy ones, very fresh food. I can get a baked potato and tomato soup for $2.50 plus tax, and that is something that many kids can eat too (without being dumbed-down on chicken nuggets all the time). There is a place for chicken nuggets - but it isn't necessarily at every meal.

What a great idea! Earls is simply one of my absolute favorites, and you're right--they have a nice balance on their menu.

I know I never order drinks with my meal..I am mostly a water drinker even on vacation. On a 100 degree day it is much much better for you anyway.

However, While it is only 2 families that I know of PLUS my own--they are from Wales and they had asked me if restaurants have any more to offer than chicken nuggest and french fries as a kids meal. They had a hard time feeding their children at kids prices b/c often restaurants think that it is family friendly to offer only deep fried main courses and side dishes as a meal.

I don't think they will be shocked at all and unlike the NEW Coke--perhaps Disney did take into account guests comments. IMHO--healthy options for children was seriously lacking. I also agree with Noodlenitter about the previous "forced option" to eat unhealthy and find it very funny that everyone has their panties in a bunch when Disney did not even say they were removing previous choices..just increasing the healthy ones.

And though they did say that they will adhere to keeping percentages to only a certain number....that can happen just by increasing options. IOW--they can meet that percentage without getting rid of those coveted turkey legs, french fgries or mickey numbers.
