Disney to cancel FPs if room is cancelled

I have a split stay that I booked in January. I have 5 nights at CR and then 2 nights at GF CL. I just called Signature Services to discuss my FP situation because I never would have booked a split stay in the first place had I known of these new changes. The CM I spoke with at DSS told me that I would be able to book all my FPs for the length of my stay when my FP window opens on the CR reservation. She said there should be no problems with it, and verified when my FP window would open for the entire length of stay.

Of course, this is completely different from what others have been told by CMs. I'm hoping DSS is right, but I'm afraid they are not. Just more inconsistency in what information is being given out.

Well, the good news is you still have a few weeks to find out what people experience between now and then, although I know you're also running out of time to switch your reservation. My first FP booking window opens in 17 days, but I'm guessing I'll have a good idea of what to expect by the end of this week.

I agree @CogsworthTN. This is stressful not knowing what to expect. I'm glad you were told that the split stay issue had been fixed for families with no interruptions between their two stays. I guess we will just wait and hope for the best. But, if my FP day rolls around and I am not able to make FPs for the second half of my stay, I will definitely be calling DSS to see if they can help me.

Although I guess we still don't know what will happen to the second stay FPs if the first stay of the split is cancelled (my guess = nothing), if this was indeed a bug then leading reservations will also still work...so much for closing loopholes!

Well, let’s hope it was just a bug! I guess that’s encouraging...I’ll be very relieved if they plan on fixing it!

There's no guarantee that the leading room reservations fp's will come back..it still will show any fp's made as being there until that room is canceled..then the fp's might go away. It could just give somebody a false sense of security until they get there or when they cancel the leading room, whichever comes first.

On the other hand after further thought...without getting in to too much detail...or forbidden thread territory..if they did fix the split stay "Bug"..there may still be "room" for abuse ?

That was what I was told..if my first split stay reservation was cancelled(the one I made my fast passes on) all fast passes would be cancelled.

I will be at Disney when my fast pass booking day arrives. I shall see If I can indeed book for the entire stay. Until then... just going to continue to read posts and hope for the best.

Perhaps Disney needs to consider a 2 or 3 night minimum stay for the campsites.

I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised and I’d welcome it. My guess is not a lot of campers who are actually staying come for just 1 night.

It still fixes the main loophole: people who booked an on-site stay that they never intended to keep, reserved FP at 60 days, and were then able to cancel the room and keep their FP to use while staying off-site. That was truly gaming the system.

As someone who loves split stays, I will be super annoyed to lose the ability to book FP for my whole trip at once. And the thought of being locked in to whatever configuration of resorts I have booked at day 60 or else risk hitting the reset button makes me cringe.

I highly doubt they all will be cancelled, but I suppose time will tell!

My understanding was that this update was to eliminate people staying offsite and making a reservation just to make FPs then Cancelling within 30 days and paying for one night to get the rolling 60 day window. And that split stays and leading reservations were not the target. No one know the actual numbers but my guess is offsite Danton rervations and throwaway rooms are a lot more common than leading reservations. There is only a very small subset of people going to Disney that even know what a leading reservation is. And of those who know even a smaller subset that actually do it.

I do agree with you that offsite folks making reservations to use the 60 day fp window, then cancelling the entire reservation are the MAIN problem. However, folks who schedule a split stay with the intention of cancelling the first half so they have their choice of the "prime" fastpasses for the portion of their stay they intend on keeping is a problem, too.

I think the supposed 48 hour grace period is there to help with this. If you decide to change resorts, but keep the same dates, you're ok. If not, well.....

But, those who use the first portion of a split stay for the 60 day window, then end up cancelling the first portion, should lose those fp's for the second portion they made under that window, IMO.

And, the folks who scheduled one night onsite, then got a 7 day rolling window for an offsite stay...I have no sympathy for. This should have never been allowed. Just be thankful for the times in the past you were able to do it.

Well some are being told just as I was that if you canceled the reservation that gave the advantage then all Fastpasses associated with that reservation would be cancelled. So I took this to mean leading reservations are chopped too (if indeed split stays are working for all reservations). I hope they are as that is total gaming and not what Disney intendeds. I would love to see DIS even disallow any discussion on future “loopholes” since Disney has made it clear with these changes what they mean to allow. Have we confirmed split stays are working for cash reservations (non club level)? I only know it’s been confirmed for DVC and those using DSS. Yesterday normal cash reservations weren’t working.

This is certainly the easiest route for them to take and hits the guests they'd most like to target (truly off-site guests) but perhaps the leading reservations to an on-site stay are more common than we're giving them credit for.
